I finally got around to listening to Zig the other day. I does feel like going back to her roots in some ways. Also her sound has "matured" in some ways, idk if matured is the right word, just feels thoughtful in a way a veteran of the music industry would be. Knowing when to throw a punch at the listener, but also having sensibility. Really liked knock off, and motor bike. Chruch Outfit reminds me of blood money in presentation, lyrical themes (tying into supposed Christian moral sensibilities), and just generally being a badass song. Despite it being the title track Zig wasn't that stand out to me. I don't have a favorite song on the album yet, but im sure i will soon. I get why some of the fans that got into Poppy via her metal era would be put off, but i also think that it's silly to be that hemmed in by taste. Dorian Electra shout out! Their fantastic though i'm most impressed by the thoughtfulness of their music videos, everything is very intentional and Dorain basically comes up with the MVs during the song writing process. Would you happen to be a fan of 100 gecs? Dylan and Luara have had a hand in producing a lot of hits in the hyper-pop sphere.
I totally get whay you mean. I also think everything post-Titanic has been incredible, but most of her stuff with him I thought was... not good lol some songs were, but his influence was so cheesy and lame. Once she started to stand alone and take major control (at least from what I've read--IDK her story personally obviously haha) her art REALLY came through. WHAT?! That's wild! Zig is my absolute favorite haha I think it's by far the best on the album! I like a few 100 Gecs songs, but I can't get into all of them. I love 800db! I can listen to that on repeat!
