- I'm showing you all the awesome vegan food I found on my trip to Italy. John and I visited the Amalfi Coast, Sicily, and Rome. This is only part 1 because there was just so much food!

Chef Express Gas Station (somewhere just outside of Rome!) - paprika Pringles & americano
Divina Vietri - Amalfi Coast beer, fried pizza, margherita style pizza without cheese, arugula salad. There were no vegan restaurants in Amalfi or Vietri that we could find so you'll be making up meals like this at whatever restaurant you go to!
cuorebio (grocery store in Pompeii) - lots of vegan stuff! Be sure to buy your own almond or soy milk for coffee!
Restaurant in Pompeii - vegan croissants
in Amalfi - vegan chocolate gelato (the exact restaurant name is unknown!)
Burger Bar (in Salerno) - we made our own burgers with vegan soy patties, avocado, porcini mushrooms, tomato, lettuce, bbq sauce. Also had the vegan salad. If you're in Salerno check it out but don't go out of your way to eat here.
Autogrill gas station (somewhere past Salerno on our way to Sicily)- vegan croissant & americano. Just get vegan croissants wherever you find them. They were everywhere actually!
Haiku (Palermo) - the Antipasto Misto Grande has all the appetizers and I highly recommend it! Also ate Papardelle Al Sugo Di Zucchina Bianca, and Risotto Mantecato Verza Rossa E Pistachio. This was the best food we had on the whole trip.
Billy's Food (Mondello Beach) - beer & soft vegetarian taco. If you're in the area this is the only option for vegan food that we found.
ECotta (Palermo) - we had vegetable tempura which is a thing in Italy. We saw it everywhere! A cheeseless pizza and a pasta dish that was super weird and not good. I would't recommend this place. The food was lack lustre and while the menu lists things as vegan they're in fact not. BUT they will make you vegan items. I would eat at Haiku again!
Freschette (Palermo) - we had a vegan seitan chicken dish in a lemon sauce which was ok. The adzuki meatballs are really good! That ricotta they serve every dish with is awesome too. This place is worth going too, it's cute. Be sure to ask which menu items are vegan as it's a vegetarian cafe.
Capa Toast (Palermo) - go here! The sandwiches are amazing and you can make your own with whatever toppings you want!

Canadian girl living in Italy and I can confirm - best food ever, vegan "cornetti" (aka croissants) everywhere, suspicious vegan cheese and almost getting tired of pizza 😂

ABOUT THE CHEESE: it's most probably Violife which is the best vegan cheese ever. It's from a Greek company and it has every flavor you could imagine, it even has a new Prosociano like cheese that's even shaped like the real thing. It's amazing!! And yes! It's super stringy. The one in your sandwich looks like either the smoked cheese or the cheddar cheese, the most "orangy" ones.

omg i got to experience violife when i went to iceland this past april and i only ever had it cold on sandwiches. It is the absolute best vegan cheese i've ever had and now i'm really sad i didn't get to try it melted

I'm currently studying abroad in Italy (Milan) and I'm so surprised at how easy it is to be vegan here! Even with a budget. Italy does things righttt. 👏🏻💚

So awesome!! Everything looked bomb!! That brand of veggie meat balls makes the most amazing spring rolls!! My favorite... and I'm thinking that amazing looking vegan cheese was by Violife it's the BEST vegan cheese I've had so far👍🏽 P.S. sucks that we couldn't meet up but I'm so glad you and John had a blast!

Try it! It doesn't have any vegan cheese on it - just full of the most fresh ingredients and amazing crust. Supposedly, the high mineral content in the water makes the crust extra-good :)

Omg isn't Italy so impressive with their vegan options?! Like a lot of chain places include vegan stuff, and then the more quaint places you just order pasta with tomato sauce + veggies (delish) or pizza Napoletana which is what John had (no cheese, just sauce, garlic and olive oil - so simple but so good and it's already vegan).
Italy is very vegan-friendly.... A lot of Italians are getting vegans. I think it's the second Vegeterian country in the world after India.
Actually it is called Marinara not Napoletana... 😘
I was just in Italy a few months ago to study there, and this video made me miss it so much! I ate so many paprika Pringles it's insane and now I also really want a marinara pizza! great video Lauren, love your what I ate in a days!

In italy, almost all cafes and pastries have vegan croissan and soy cappuccino. Some even croissants stuffed (chocolate, jam, cream, pistachio). Only often you have to ask, it is not well publicized
Conad has so many great Vegan options! I always amazed when I go there, and those spicy Corn nuts are the best things since sliced bread. I´ve been addicted to those since I was like 10 years old.

Btw, Lauren, you two should totally visit Croatia when in Europe if you can..We are near Italy, only divided by Adriatic sea :) Although Croatia is not really a vegan friendly country because people here eat a lot of dairy and meat and sea food on the coast but you can really see a lot here..Beautiful cities with a lot of culture and history and amazing clean blue sea and beaches..And our capital Zagreb is always ful of interesting events and places to see..

the cheese is probably violife, it's an Italian company and you can find it in Europe. it looks like real cheese and melts like it too. Sadly, we don't have it in Canada BUT pizza pizza exclusively to Canada does use violife cheese for their non-dairy cheese option and it's pretty good.

So nice to see the sights in Palermo again! I spent six weeks there just a bit ago. If you're still in Palermo you should visit a restaurant called Ethníc Food, all vegan place in the backstreets by Politeama, a friend of mine worked there for our stay. It's on Via Re Federico, which you'll see if you walk down Via Dante Aligheri.
What kind of camera do you use to take pics when you're on vacation? Like the Sony one John had at 2:50? :)
usually iphone while travelling. This is the first time I've shot video with that Sony camera. John got it recently. I normally shoot anything outside of my house on my iphone.
It’s so nice to see that Italy is getting more and more vegan options. When I was there in 2010 there was almost no vegan options in restaurants other than steamed vegetables.
