to each their own ❤ I love that she said something, if she wants to use oil and salt it isn't very fair for people to try and tell her how to cook, its her show
I seriously fucking love Lauren. Like I feel as though she would fit into my group of friends so well "Try that with our mac and cheese if you want to modify our mac and cheese recipe...I DON'T CARE" ah ha ha
I'm not vegan, but I really enjoy your vids a) because its really interesting seeing what vegans cook/substitute and b) the humor and down to earth nature you bring to your vids.
'Hot for Food: 200 Recipes to Cook Up Some Vegan Love'. Yes, I'm waiting for that book, or any other book title with all of your recipes in it. I love this channel! I hope you know that you have not only shown that a plant-based diet is incredibly varied and delicious, but you've also inspired many to have fun in the kitchen. That's what I've been doing lately and everything I've made has been amazing. All it takes it a little knowledge, practice, knowing the flavors you enjoy, and a small amount of intuition.
when you brought up the oil I wanted to sing to the heavens haha I am an olive oil girl and I grew up with it and I use it as much as you do fir sure! So much vegan hate in oil! I mean I understand but....haha when I first started watching HotForFood I seriously honest to gosh thought to myself "I wonder how many people have given her shit over the oil" 😂😂😂😂 and the salt moment...yes girl yes, life has to be enjoyed
I often make hot for food recipes and I don't use oil. Often, I just leave it out. Like when I make the cheese sauce, I just add a little bit more water/milk than Lauren does, so it will be the same consistency. Or I'll sauté things in water instead of oil or bake them instead of frying them.I just prefer not using oil at home. When you want to avoid a specific ingedient, I recommend getting used to finding ways to substitute it. You CAN still make Laurens recipes. Just like you can make any non-vegan cake by substituting egg for flax egg, milk for plant-mailk and butter for vegan butter.
Ew, your health must be disgusting if you think substituting fat for something healthier is "disgusting". Try eating healthier, it actually tastes better :)
MysticalAmber duh, its not going to kill you. but nuts, seeds and avocados are better sources, since oil has a direct negative impact on your endothelial cells and is very refined and processed and devoid of any fibre and low in nutrients.
i don't care i'm still going to use oil, because nuts, seeds and avocado are super expensive here. I'm going to die anyway so i'm going have something that tastes good.
Hot for food is my absolute favorite vegan channel. I can't even watch other vegan cooking channels because no one even stands up to you guys. Thank you for the amazing videos! Totally inspiring
Iv watched all the hot for food videos numerous times now, and i have to say this is by far my favorite. The recipe is unbelievably good and Laurens attitude towrds the haters and complainers is epic and inspiring. Greatest channel on TH-cam for sure!
Lauren I need to thank you for the cashew soak stash concept. I didn't know how long they would last and the idea switching out the water is actually a lifesaver or meal saver if you will. YAY!
I made these tonight for dinner and they were AMAZING! I would never of thought to combine those different ingredients together. This is the third recipe of yours I have made and they are all soooo good! Can't wait to try more xo
wow!! now you have nearly 260,000!!!! keep it up guys!!! I've been telling so many of my non vegan friends about your channel!! we all LOVEEEE the recipe?! series!!
a year and a half later and they're almost at 300,000 subscribers. so proud of all of their hard work and the message they share. they deserve all the best💕
I've made three of your recipes this week and you've inspired me to experiment in the kitchen. I've always sucked at cooking and this channel is changing my life
Your reaction at the end is what made me give it a shot.... And I am so glad I did. This tasted amazing! So glad that I found a vegan cheese sauce recipe that doesn't require turmeric and mustard, yet comes out beautiful.
I LOVE these series! Especially when I see you improvise, I actually learn so much from you. The other day I wanted to make falafel from scratch and wanted to somehow add buttermilk to it, and then I remembered you saying how adding any acidic element to nut milk gave the same texture as buttermilk and voila! I actually made something edible haha...thank YOU for these series!
I love that you two just keep it real!! The food you make always looks great and the way you make it would most probably take the fear away from someone contemplating veganism! There are so many vloggers out there that make being a vegan seem like the most difficult thing in the world. You guys show how easy and normal it can be.Thank You!!!
I've been binge watching all of your cooking videos. I'm not necessarily going vegetarian, but to get healthier and make small life changes my boyfriend and I are doing every other meal as either meatless or full on vegan. I love watching your "recipe?" videos because it shows the thought process behind the dishes. That way we can be a little creative and be inspired to do our own recipes too. Long story short, you make veganism a lot more accessible than many other youtubers I've watched. Thanks so much and please keep the videos coming!
I agree. I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking that. hehe :) I wanna do more vege based meals rather than all meat. my family needs more healthy supper options and I think I'll be looking into this channel for more ideas. ^^ love how honest she was about how she was just finding stuff she had around the house to make something lol
I recently happened upon your channel because I searched for a dairy free gingerbread cookie recipe (I found AND used your snowflake cookie recipe they were a hit this holiday 😀) I'm dairy free currently because I'm breastfeeding and my son has a dairy protein allergy. I have to say that I'm so impressed and inspired by your channel. It has given me hope because I've been eating a lot of the same things over and over again because EVERYTHING processed has freakin dairy. I was meant to find y'all to give me ideas for cooking the way I used to! I can use your vegan cheese sauce OMG mind blowing and even BAKE again because I miss my muffins and cakes the most. Thanks Lauren and John 👍🏼
I absolutely love your channel! It's so useful (my diet is dairy free and I try to stay away from meat) these recipes look delicious and I can't wait to try them :)
Must make this! I have to say, I am a foodie and I know my way around the kitchen, but since going vegan I feel like I am having to relearn everything! I am learning a TON from this channel and look forward to getting my own creative groove back in the kitchen. Thanks to Hot for Food University here, I am so excited to start cooking all these awesome vegan delish dishes! ;-) You guys rock!
I made this but subbed sweet potato for pumpkin and instead of cashews used 1/2 cup of my leftover cashew, date, garlic, Dijon dressing. I also added smoked paprika and chopped mushrooms. It was so good.
i can not get over how absolutely great this looks, i've never even had this happen to me before but... watching this is actually making me so hungry, i love vegan comfort food
I cooked this for a potluck at work yesterday and it was gone in less than 15 minutes. This recipe is so delicious and some of my coworkers had no idea it was vegan. I love this channel! Also, you guys should test the Follow Your Heart Vegan Egg!
Oh my goodness!!!! I loved this 'recipe'! I'm a fairly new vegan and I've been so inspired by your channel. I've made several of your recipes and loved them! Keep cooking, recording, posting and TEACHING!
I remember watching this video before going vegan and thinking wow she just KNOWS how to make vegan cheese sauce, I will never get to that point D: and I was always a good cook! Been vegan now for almost a year, and I make cheese sauce and cheese ALL THE TIME without recipes, it's crazy easy! all it takes is practise ;)
I made this and loved it! I used penne pasta since I didn't have the shells, and it was so good. I've made lots of recipes from you guys and there has not been one I didn't love. Thanks for the video!
you guys are exactly what i needed. love ya and thanks for the ideas! i started to be vegan recently but it's quite challenging because i'm not that person who loves vegetables a lot and can't cook the best so once again thank you
I'm a vegetarian and I've found your channel and honestly I still love dairy and cheese but I would totally try out these recipes they look super delicious and pretty healthy actually!! Thank you for the amazing recipes Lauren!!
I made this tonight but I didn't have lemon juice so I just used a bit of apple cider vinegar and I didn't have enough broccoli so I used cauliflower rice and omg. They turned out even better than I could have ever imagined. Even my grandmother (who doesn't like many vegan "cheese" dishes absolutely loved it. I wish I could have these for dinner every night 😂 I also loved being able to use the can of pumpkin that I had sitting in the pantry for like ever LOL
I've made this countless times and it never lets me down. I've used cauliflower in lieu of broccoli and even added some chopped tomatoes on top when I serve it.
+hot for food of course I did! So yummy! I'll definitely make these again! I have sweet potato purée in my fridge that I need to use what do you think of using that in place of the pumpkin?!
We tried this recipe lest night and it was sooo, SO delicious!! it was so yummy that it didn't last long enough to get a photo to share. I couldn't believe how convincing this cheese sauce was.
When you were pouring the sauce I was thinking breadcrumbs would be so good as well😍😍! And your reaction when talking about the salt 😂 you're so funny love watching these!
I love this Lauren! I've recently gone vegan and have never had so much fun in the kitchen! Your recipes are inspiring but I also love adapting and basically using up whatever I have left in the fridge! Thank you for sharing your ideas and passion for vegan cooking! Big vegan hug, nat.:)
I like cooking with healthy oils as well; it gives vegan food a rich satisfying taste. I respect different vegan eating styles but I'm glad you guys cook with oil.
I made this yesterday! Holy shit it is so so so good! The pumpkin gives the sauce such richness. I've never really gotten that out of dairy cheese. I now use pumpkin in all of my vegan cheese! You are fantastic! Great job girl! Guys seriously, make this. Make it now. You need this in your life people!
So salty about the oil, I love it haha
alot of people don't use oil. not sure why....
+West Arts Also very salty about the salt :D
+Ryan H. Lesley Wilson cause its empty calories from fat and it can make you feel heavy after a meal
to each their own ❤ I love that she said something, if she wants to use oil and salt it isn't very fair for people to try and tell her how to cook, its her show
I'm 14, I'm vegan, but my parents are meat-eaters. I made this the other day and they LOVED IT !!😍
+Marcel Kalisz that's awesome!

Ew, your health must be disgusting if you think substituting fat for something healthier is "disgusting". Try eating healthier, it actually tastes better :)
i know someone that almost died from not having any fat in their diet, so if i want a tablespoon of oil i don't think i'm being unhealthy.
MysticalAmber duh, its not going to kill you. but nuts, seeds and avocados are better sources, since oil has a direct negative impact on your endothelial cells and is very refined and processed and devoid of any fibre and low in nutrients.

+kat s hahah awwww thank you! That's awesome :)
It always floors me when people ask for substitutes... If that's your diet shouldn't you know already?
I think being vegan kinda has a learning curve. I'm just starting out but there is still so much I Dont know - but want to. at least I'm trying :)
Step 1, don't ask someone who isn't vegan (or oil-free, or raw, or low-carb, etc) for vegan recipe substitutes.
+roxylove good for you! :)
+Problame being vegan is irrelevant. People ask for substitutes everywhere, no matter what recipe it is or what food anybody is cooking.
+roxylove Amen! exactly!
I cooked this for a potluck at work yesterday and it was gone in less than 15 minutes. This recipe is so delicious and some of my coworkers had no idea it was vegan. I love this channel! Also, you guys should test the Follow Your Heart Vegan Egg!

FINALLY made this tonight! Didn't have the broccoli or jumbo shells so put it on baby shells with peas. So good!
