Fantastic comparison, and thx for the shoutout! I was in my Ozone other day after a 7-month hiatus (due mostly to winter flows and the purchase of an Antix 2.0). You are spot on at 12:56 describing how narrow it feels when you first get into it after paddling other boats for a while, but then you get used to it pretty quickly, and man is it fun being so loose and playful, esp with how narrow the stern is right behind the hips.
I A/B'd these last night at the park - ironically, both mine since the guy who bought my Ozone just happened to be there with it. From my much lower experience perspective, I have to agree with everything, Wade. The tail is more playful on the Ozone, and I found that the extra volume in the bow made it a little more helpful for running the rapids...but that's what I have a Ripper 2 for ;-). The SuperNova outshined it in everything else - way more initial stability, much smoother on edge, and an absolute bomber for surfing waves and holes. I pulled off a sweet bow-stall on the wave in the SN last night - I felt like it loaded with more control because of the length and lower volume, where trying to load the Ozone was more like an on/off switch. The comfort of the SN outfitting is INSANE! I was immediately reminded of how much I didn't care for the fit in the Ozone for me...couldn't wait to get back in the SN. I also feel the plastic is a little softer in the SN - it scratches, where the Ozone plastic seemed to crease. In fairness, the guy who bought my Ozone preferred the instant feedback he had in it, and he is a considerably more experienced paddler than myself. Love the SuperNova! Can't wait to try it in ocean waves back home.
Super comparison, thank you very much, the reason why I got an Ozone was, that you made a great demo on the fladdle as well about a year ago, showing how easy it is, throwing the Ozone around. Main difference you didnt point out is, No Drainplug .... Drainplug 😁👍
I'm over here wondering what slicey boat to get next spring. And I immediately found this perfect comparison of my top two choices. You're the best, thanks!!!
Hi wade, looking for a replacement for stolen medium ozone? Have a dragorossi Kush for river running and a rockstar for play boating at 180lbs dry worried the supernova won’t be playful enough and the nova will sit too low in the water? When I brought the medium ozone I tried the small and it worked ok, what would you recommend thanks
This one I was excited for because it’s a free ride boat not really a full slice I came up with it when I did the Cheoah in the supernova and was like this is a great down river player also and remember how good the ozone was at that..
@Wade Harrison Could you comment further on the seat position (moved back) and the impact on how the Supernova performs, please? I had to move the seat back to fit (35" inseam). Have only paddled in ocean waves so far. Thx.
I picked up a large Ozone this year after not paddling for several years. People mention that it feels narrow but I learned to kayak in 90s and the Ozone feels very wide compared to my old boats like the Necky Rip. The one thing I noticed with the higher knee position is that it is harder for me to roll, it likes to stall out on the side. The Ozone is very dry, it was virtually bone dry after several hours of river running and surfing. It is also very comfortable, I can sit in it for hours without a problem.
I'd love a homeslice on water comparison. Just got a homeslice and want to make sure I'm getting everything out of it I can, plus I love the comparison vids xD
Great comparison, was thinking trading my Ozone for a Supernova but think I’ll hang on to the Ozone for a while yet. Any chance of a comparison with some of Corran’s boats, F-Bomb, Glide etc .
Any people paddled the Mix Master 7.4? I am looking for a new downriver play boat and coming from the Mix Master. How do these compare with the Mix Master?
@@WadeHarrison Thank you, really enjoying all your reviews and comparisons. I live over an hour from any boat demo center, so your work helps out greatly to narrow down a boat to buy.
I love the Ozone! Got it early spring from my man Don at High Water Hobbies and I have ran Stony,Savage,LoYo,Doah at High and low water and about to do Upper Yough in it, surfs like a dream, squirts and splats. Its all around Great boat!
I would think volume doesn’t matter only when your dealing with similar volume? An 80 gallon creeker has got to be different than a 55 gallon boat of any shape? My M Jed is 55 gallons and I’m interested to see the difference with the super nova I’m picking up this weekend.
How would you compare the supernova to the "old" 4fun? When I got more comfortable/paddled more I always wanted a 4fun to have... More fun but not a play boat.
I bought myself an ozone basically as soon as they were available over here in Germany I have the L, normally have trouble fitting in playfull kayaks, in the Ozone I have tons of room, it really opened my eyes to the world of freeride /playboating, deffinatly want to test out the Super Nova as soon as possible though sadly haven't had the chance yet as it is not available over here yet
I tried the Supernova. Still weight 170, still gonna get a Nova, but probably won't be on anything harder than Class IV- that i've been on before. Surprised how many people get an Ozone and sell it, doesn't seem like it's taking off the way we thought it would
@@WadeHarrison I may be demoing a large Ozone in the surf - I'll let you know. I can tell you that I had a wavesport score a long time ago and it worked great in the ocean surf and I could surf river waves just by rocking my hips - but I HATED that thing going down river.
Super excited for a Nova one of these days. Love the OZONE, but I can't get along with Pyranha's current outfitting, it sucks. Wish they would beef it up with more adjustability
I have been using a medium Ozone for a while now, going for the Super Nova next..as it seems to be all I wanted the Ozone to be!..better at surfing waves, stable and more playable..this makes better where I was dissapointed with Ozone..although the Ozone was exceptional on a standing wave!
Yeah that’s why I did the comparison I felt the supernova At weight between 170-210 was a really good river running player not just a full slice play boat and is actually closer to the medium ozone then people might think.
That hull on the ozone with the tapered edge on the stern is directly from the original InaZone. Nothing new, but one of the features I always really liked about the OG InaZone.
@@kendallrussell5195 no it isn’t. The hull on the Medieval isn’t like either of these boats or the InaZone, I’ve owned all of them and they’re not anything alike in the hull department.
@@oscoastierob Sarcasm some people miss it. Some of the best WW kayaks were made 30 years ago and people are rediscoving the fun. I still paddle my Medieval regularly as well as my New Wave Bigfoot.
Slice boats are class,. I paddle mixmaster which is obvs on the squirt boat end, but I think it's a pity more top freestylers aren't promoting what these can do. It's all splats, cartwheels, and squirts, which are cool, but these things wave wheel, tricky woo, lunar, kickflip, and split wheel so well too, pity we often don't see this as much, as they make the easier grades a playground
I think the air stuff like the loops mcnasty space Godzilla ect is the reason your so limited on air with full slice me personally I like the longer full slice because of moves like you suggested there seem to be more of a art and style to those and the air stuff is just big power moves
So, first let me preface my statements with the fact that I am one of those crazy hand paddlers. I got a L Ozone last year, and I liked it, but pretty constantly felt a bit nervous in it, just always felt tippy. I really did not like the knee position in it, at all. I agree that the Ozone is easier to get spinning on eddy lines. Now I got a Supernova at the beginning of the summer and absolutely LOVE it. It feels absolutely stable on everything I have paddled it on. To me, it might be the best hand paddling boat ever made. And while I can get the Ozone spinning more easily, I can get the Supernova more vertical consistently, and can get my ends switching pretty easily. It also feels ridiculously well balanced between bow and stern. Altogether, I am one of those out there that liked the Ozone, and would give it a 7/10, but the Supernova is a solid 10/10, easily my favorite boat that I have paddled.
Downriver? Ozone is the most difficult boat you can imagine for downriver! I would paddle one notch harder rivers with my Rockstar. Ozone is a very fast, but not loose at all, surfing kayak.
Make all the comparison videos you want! They don't get old... they're great
Good to know this was something on my list because the ozone being a free ride kayak not full slice but close

the supernova

ozone is actually closer to the Loki then the super Nova
nice review man. Pretty much spot on what I would say. Cant wait till you get back in that ozone !
