    His second wife was definitely a KEEPER. she has an actual spiritual quality that is definitely not lost on me. Hank did good when he got with her. I'll bet if he'd lived they would have gone the distance. she impressed the crap out of me.

    i had coffee this here Sat. june 22, watched all and enjoyed all. I live here in Montgomery about 1/4 mile up the road here from Hanks grave. When i was 5, i used to sit on Virginia Hensley's lap when she would come over to the apple orchard to visit Mom & Dad. She would sing and dad would play guitar. She later entered a singing contest and won. She was told her name Virginia didn't sound like star material, so she changed it to Patsy Cline!

    I also watched all 5 parts. Learned alot. George Jones and Waylon Jennings loved this special man and his uniqueness. And I am glad too see Hank Williams III sharing this great music that so few now know or have heard. Thanks for sharing.

    WOW - I'm sitting here crying tears of sadness for this poor tortured soul. And how ironic that even in death he couldn't escape Audrey. When it stated she is buried next to him I was shocked. I wonder whose decision it was to bury her next to the man she ruined. So sad !

      Hank Jr. made that choice. I’d agree that they weren’t good for each other but it wasn’t her fault alone. Hank had “demons” he never was able to successfully cope with.

    I remember the day after Hank died. We were at my uncle's house "killin' hogs". My cousin was standing at the cast iron heater warming his hands and telling about Hank Williams' death. My cousin, my father and mother, my uncle, aunt, and all the adults who were there that day are now gone. I'll never forget that moment in time.

    I used to know Billie Jean back in the early 1980's. She was quite a character. I have a couple of her songs up on my channel. She had a stroke over 10 years ago and has lived in assisted living since. The home she lived in at that time, which is where her part of this was filmed, was sold just a couple of months ago, after sitting empty for years. Most people in Shreveport either really liked her or really didn't. I was young when I knew her, so I liked her wild ways.

    I cry every time I listen to all this; oh how I wish someone could have helped that dear man. If he could have been free of pain, and ate right and took medicine right, he may have lived longer. He was sick and they kept sending him to shows he didn't want to do anymore. What kind of life is that? Makes me so sad.

  • @maxwellfan55
    @maxwellfan55 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    This story shows how hard it is to lead life as public property. Considering his domestic difficulties with Audrey, his disability, plus the exhausting performing and recording obligations I think Hank did rather well, but it could never last. If it had worked out better with Audrey things could have been different. But it also shows a man can love more than one woman at the same time.

    his musical genius was so strong he wouldn't have had any difficulty keeping up with changes in music. in fact, if he had lived his presence would have been a really big influence on what came after him. this guy was a really powerful force in the history of american music. he's the greatest american songwriter since stephen foster and no one has come close since, at least in the usa.

    I'm crying for him, greatest songwriter; Hank sang from his heart and soul was a compassionate songwriter, The alcohol didn't help he needed medical attention. I love to hear him sing your Cheatin Heart and Cold Cold Heart. I think he wrote these songs, they tell his story.

  • @JohnBolesJBizzle
    @JohnBolesJBizzle 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I learned a few things about the Man, they say your story stops when you die. Maybe so, i think the way Hank stays with us might be from his early years learning how to play those southern blues and church singing somehow taught him how to put your soul in a song, I don't know much but i feel like it stayed in some of them to this day and that's the energy we get from those dusty tunes. They are timeless in a way. You can be anywhere any place and Hank song pops up and there you go, all of a sudden you are not where you were anymore. Not many thing in this world can transport your mind like that. R.I.P. Hank your songs are doing just fine and if lll was the one responsible for trying to get your story in perspective. Buy him a beer, when he catches up to you. jboveranout

    Ever since the technology to be able to record and play back audio has existed; it seems that about once (or twice if we are lucky),about every decade or so; an artist will come along that is so special and ground breaking; they will have either become the inventors of a whole new genre of music, or at least come to personify the genre or style music that gets mostly associated with them.
    In the case of someone like Hank Williams, he is one of those artists. He is Country music period. His music is literally everything that The Classic Country Music Genre is,and should be!
    Although,probably highly unlikely in this day and age. Let's say hypothetically speaking,someone was to come along who had never,ever in their lives heard a second of any Country music whatsoever. Perhaps,someone maybe explained to them what Country music maybe sounded like,but that was it,they literally never heard a single note of Country Music ever. If this person were to come to you, and ask you to play/let them hear an example of what Country music sounded like, you would have to play them a Hank Williams song. You would just have to.
    There aren't too many artists that come along who are able to become in a sense the style of music for a whole entire genre, like that. Perhaps the same could be said for Rockabilly music when comparing and listening to those early Sun Recordings that Elvis Presley made? Or a modern day equivalent might be someone like,Kurt Cobain and what his music was and did for Grunge or Alternative rock?
    To me this is one of the highest accolades of music that can bestowed upon an artist. To be so special that you in a way or sense actually become known as the genre of the music that it is you mostly played. When I think of, or hear the name Country Music, the name Hank Williams always immediately comes to mind! It's almost in a sense similar to how Kleenex has become universally known as a tissue. Sure, there are other tissue companies out there,but most people,(or at least most older generation people), still seem to refer to tissues as Kleenexes.
    So in my mind, its important that we try and keep the legacy and great songs of these legendary artists like Hank Williams Sr. alive and in the forefront of pop culture as much as we can, in order to be able to keep reaching the younger generations; who seem in this day and age,(thanks to the mainstream media's constant assault of propaganda), to be drifting further away from classic talents such as Hank Williams; in part or mostly due to the onslaught of modern gadgets such as video games,tablets,and of course the constant barrage of crappy,watered down mainstream made pop.

      Mike Thomas There would be no Elvis without Hank. Hank is the first and last word. Poet, storyteller, composer, singer, philosopher, artist, genius.

      I'm 59. I can only think of three that had the impact that they had. No Michael Jackson is not one of the. He was close.
      Hank williams
      Elvis presley
      The Beatles.
      Tell me who I'm missing that reached that same level?

    Hank was great. Great songwriter. But Don't forget about Bob Dylan.. He had an impressive list of songs written before he was 30, just like Hank. Hank's songs have stood the test of time, just like Dylan and the Beatles.

    4:29.....I'm not suprised that "doctor" pumped Hank full of pharmaseuticals. It's an old game. Even today some "doctors" advise taking medications over eating the proper foods that have all the vitamins you need to feel better and have energy. I learned this from one of the (TED) Lecture videos.

    the inescapable burden of being 'ol Hank son is one of the saddest parts of the williams story. Jr. has said that he was lucky to be the son of of 'ol Hank. to me, it was the worst fate a man could have.

    THEY EDITED THIS. Some really good parts of this were left out. I suppose you have to buy the dvd from PBS to get the whole thing--that's unfortunate. I particularly missed some of the reminiscences of his band and pals.

      +Jessica Iguado that doesn't sound quite right. it was made by PBS and was one of a series called something like, "American Masters" or something like that. what you saw could be a dvd of it they sold publicly. I thought it was the best thing about him ever done and I've been a fan for a long, long time. cheers.

      +Bob Harris thanks for telling me that. I thought Billie Jean was the best thing in the whole show. I certainly wish her well. I thought she was profound and wise. Thanks for sharing your personal story. I was born the year Hank Williams died. I discovered him when I was thirteen and, for me, he was as big a deal as the Beatles. I sat for hours in my dad's car listening to him on eight track. He has been an important part of my life. Take care.

      Bob Harris thank you for sharing your story bob, I heard that she did suffer a stroke that's too bad, she seems like such an extraordinary woman and I really admired her after watching the documentary. I feel she was treated very unfairly after Hank passed. Nice to know she's outlived them all.

      +Jessica I I noticed on your "fave list" you have the song by Hank, "Why Should We Try Anymore", "7 down. There is a lot of information in the comment section you might want to read. There is always a comment on most all Hank Williams songs, you may want to go to Google, ask for BOB'S SOMEWHERE IN TIME COUNTRY, and review it. You will find it interesting.
