ℹ A Class 450 passes through with an empty coaching stock move from Guildford to Southampton, and after a couple of minutes another one pulls out of Petersfield station (immediately to the south) on a Portsmouth to London service. I actually already filmed a video here just beforehand, but it was one of those where I cut and restart on the amber light, but because the barriers were put up briefly before this stock move, I decided to 'try again'. It rained fairly hard just before that unused video, but had stopped by now: it seemed to be stopping and starting a lot for most of the day! The crossing is controlled by the adjacent Petersfield signal box (left of the picture), but the box's days are numbered; over the next year or so, the line is being resignalled and this will involve the 3 boxes' closure in favour of a digital signalling system controlled from Basingstoke. The crossing will most probably end up being controlled remotely and monitored by CCTV. On the second-to-last night of 2022, my family and I stayed in a hotel less than a mile west of here: we had driven down from Lincolnshire for the memorial service of a deceased family member and stayed overnight.
