Your reaction to "ripping Lyndsey's clothes off" was the same one I had the first time I watched this film. I don't know how that stayed in after editing,.
John Carpenter got this cause he had a reputation for doing quality work on shoestring budgets. When he said to the producers he could do this on a 300 grand budget in less than 25 days that clinched it, plus the fact his list of demands was low. All he wanted was to be able to write the script, have creative control and his name above the movie title. He wrote the script and Deborah Hill wrote the girls parts along with supervising rewrites, he wrote and scored the music, helped edit as well as directing and did the story boards. For all that he was paid 20 grand.
20 grand fir a months work in 78 is still good money , that was enough to buy a decent home, and he got a career out of it , id take rhat deal but i wouldve also asked for a percentage
I was honestly really intrigued by the discussion you two had at the end. Not only do you guys react, but you have so much to add beyond that; you add things that I’ve never noticed or acknowledged myself as someone who’s seen the movie so many times. Thanks for the reaction!
Love that you commented on the look and realism early on. I think it’s because they were limited in budget so there’s more reliance on natural light sources plus it’s all on location instead of studio sets where too many aspects can be manipulated resulting in an uncanny valley effect.
For me, what's most interesting about Michael is the uncertainty about what he is. The way i see t he's a force of nature, he makes no distinctions about killing, he is basically instinctive. The pure evil that was once human. And this is addressed in the current films, from 2018 to Halloween Ends. The more he kills, the stronger and more supernatural he becomes and less human too. If you watch the next few films you'll see that he begins to perform increasingly humanly impossible acts as his body count increases.
Fun fact: Michael's age in the end credits is incorrect. He was 6 ysars old in the beginning in 1963, making him 21 in 1978, and they corrected this in sequels.
That was the 1950s version of The Thing. Carpenter's 80s version is a remake (or better said, a re-adaptation of the original novella). Oh, if you're interested the Halloween franchise timelines are: The "Prime" timeline --> Halloween (1978), Halloween II (1981). The "Thorn" timeline or the "Jamie Lloyd" timeline --> Halloween (1978), Halloween II (1981), Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988), Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989), Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995). The "20 Years Later" timeline --> Halloween (1978), Halloween II (1981), Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998), Halloween: Resurrection (2002). The "Ends" timeline --> Halloween (1978), Halloween (2018), Halloween Kills (2021), Halloween Ends (2022). Then finally we have the "Remake" timeline or the Rob Zombie's Halloween movies --> Halloween (2007) and Halloween II (2009). Halloween III: Season of the Witch is a standalone movie not related to any Michael Myers shenanigans.
You guys commented on how he looked like he was in pain when Laurie removed his mask. The way I understand it is that he is no longer human to the point that the mask becomes his true face, for me the expression of pain and confusion when it is removed shows that he only feels complete when he wears it.
This isn't new. Dracula was a real ladies man. haha. It reminds me of something my female friend told me. She read Anne of Green Gables and there was a scene when Anne and Diana are talking about the kind of man Anne finds attractive. Anne describes a sort of dark, brooding guy and Diana asks if Anne would really want a bad man. Anne tells her something to the affect of, "No, not really. I don't think I'd want a bad man. I think I'd want a man who Could be bad but chooses not to be bad." Then, there are women who have the Florence Nightingale effect because they think they can nurse a man back to health aka Save him from being a bad man and change him through the power of love. It's not just Myers. Characters like Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Kylo Ren and even Pennywise from the recent movies have women falling over themselves. This is true in movies, books, anime, TV shows, etc. There's an actual reason for this, but yeah, it's more popular than most people would believe. haha
Someone also said this but If you’re curious about the series if you plan on watching more or not, the Halloween franchise got rebooted a few times and each other create its own timeline so you can choose either one and it wouldn’t make you question the continuity. Timeline 1 is Halloween (1978), Halloween 2 (1981), Halloween 4,5, and 6. Timeline 2 is the H20 timeline. The films are Halloween (1978), Halloween 2 (1981), Halloween H20, and Halloween Resurrection. Timeline 3 is the Rob Zombie reboot from 2007 and its sequel from 2009. Lastly timeline 4 is the current one and the films are Halloween (1978), Halloween (2018), Halloween Kills, and Halloween Ends. There is a movie called Halloween 3: Season of the Witch but you can skip that one cause Michael isn’t in that one because they tried to make a different story each movie but it flopped because fans wanted Michael back. XD
That's not the only reason Halloween III flopped. It's just not a good movie. If they had called it something else, it would have been just a generic scifi horror.
Halloween II and IV are alright as sequels to this but the 2018 films timeline is a lot better than the Halloween 5-8 timeline before the RZ timeline [which is an ok one of its own]
Now you gotta check out Halloween II (1981). It continues on the same night, right after this one. This is one of the greatest films of all time, it's in the congressional library's film registry board. It's a list of films deemed "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant" that are recommended for preservation by those holding the best elements for that film, be it motion picture studios, the Library of Congress and other archives, or filmmakers. Around 830 films on that list, out of millions made. Carpenter wrote Myers to be the actual boogeyman. He said he's a human, but he has a supernatural edge. He was only gonna do this one film, and the ending was supposed to scare people as it implies that you can't kill the boogeyman, with them showing all the places he's been in the movie, and his breathing getting heavier. It suggests that he can be everywhere, and nowhere. Another fun fact is that the movie cost $325,000, half of it went to the camera and lenses.
yeah the scene with no one helping her is a really good example of the bystander effect. I read somewhere that if you actually want help you would be advised to scream : FIRE !!! , since humans are instinctually more prone to react to that. Its also useful to engage the person directly and descibe them when calling out to them. For example : ,,You in the yellow jacket. Please help" since that way people dont have the instinct to expect someone else to help sincce its specific
@@Xehanort10 could also be, but i read somewhere that there was a similiar situation with a woman running in her neighborhood and screaming for help while being chased and later killed in the middle of the street. No one helped her. depends on if the situation happened before the filming of the movie or after, but it could be directly inspired by it.
@@Xehanort10Yeah, I believe they thought Laurie was doing a prank because it's Halloween and teens tend to cut up around. Laurie thought her friends her pranking her. She probably even thought Michael was pranking which is why she stopped thinking about it later in a day after getting high, when Tommy was expressing his concerns. Even the sheriff mentioned the teen antics he stumbled across when he met back up with Loomis. I think any other night, especially in a small town we're everyone pretty much knows everyone, Laurie would have gotten help. That's one of the reasons why Michael coming out on Halloween is the perfect time for him. So many things can easily gets brushed off because simply because of the holiday itself and what it tends to obtain...
In the credits it isn't refered to as Michael but as The Shape. This implies it is the Shape that evil took. No demons, no human trauma, only a void in human form.
The Lindsey line was actually supposed to be "Annie", but apparently the actor mistakenly said the wrong name. It still makes my stomach churn every time considering that there are people who really do make sick "jokes" like that...
Halloween is my favorite classic horror movie. I grew up in suburbia and neighbors are too noisy to ignore someone screaming. They are calling the cops if they don’t think you live in the neighborhood. Halloween 2 is more action where this one is more tension.
pgreen: A Lot of people miss this entire background of the movie. Once we hit 1978, there are various characters that talk about how much of a hassle pranksters are on Halloween night. It's to the extent that Sheriff Brackett is far more concerned with tracking down pranksters annoying the townspeople and causing a large amount of damage than worrying about an escaped mental patient that's been nearly vegetative for 15 years. Throughout the night, there's much being said about the problems the teens and kids being are causing than Myers. Even the sheriff believes Myers is the weaker threat. So, the neighbors aren't ignoring Laurie Strode's screams and pleas. They truly think they're being targeted for the usual Haddonfield shenanigans that normally happens every Halloween night; so, they're ignoring her and the younger kids screaming because they don't want to deal with the pranks. That's my take. haha
Meg really has two sides: One of them loves The wholesome good Guys (like Caleb and Alistair for example) and the other side is just really attracted to people like Astarion and apparently Micheal FREAKING Myers… either that or Caleb has a reeeeaaally dark Side that he hides very well… I don’t know wich one sounds better
That was actually the intent of the ending shots to give the audience the feeling that he could be anywhere even your own home one last creep out as you left the theater.
My second favorite horror film next to Scream. This is an important movie in history because this as well as Texas Chainsaw Massacre started the modern day slasher genre that soon create other icons such as Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Chucky, etc, with Michael Myers kind of presented as the king of the slasher villains. The original movie while tamed for todays standards, still is a scary movie because of the slow building/suspense and how realistic it is before becoming ridiculous and supernatural for the sequels which are hit or misses. Lol Was once just suppose to be a low budget one off film became a major franchise.
Just so you know…. The Halloween series has 4 different storylines. 1. H1 and H2 2. H1, H2, H4, H5, H6 3. H1, H2, H H20, H Resurrection 4. H1, H 2018, H Kills, H Ends The Halloween series originally meant to be a anthology which is why Halloween 3 is a different story. But when H3 was released they realized people wanted more Michael Myers. Also it’s 2 complete remakes by a director named Rob Zombie who came out with H 2007 and H2 2009.
The Rob zombies Halloween remakes take out most of the suspense and replaces it with f bomb. No really if you want a Halloween movie where 90% of the dialogue is f bombs Rob zombies halloweeen is the movie for you.
The capacity for evil and horror can come to any town, no matter how tranquil, how pure. Live your life, be happy, but be on your guard because the Boogeyman is out there.
Y'all should check out Halloween II. It came out in 1981, but serves as a direct sequel to this movie picking up right where it leaves off on the same night! It aslo provides some more back story for Laurie and Michael. It's definitely worth watching.
Also you're right about the academic/literary analysis, there are quite a few film analysis essays and books on pretty much all the themes you were reading into this and personal experiences. I can point you to some journal articles and academic works on Halloween 78 and horror films in general if you want, feel free to ask
That's an awesome point about suburbia, guys! I never thought about that!! I'll say that the scariest thing about Michael Myers, to me, is that he could really be anyone. The grave keeper even mentions to Loomis, "Every town has a story like that", because monsters don't live under the bed. They live just like you and me, and they COULD live right next door... They can blend into a crowd, and you wouldn't know, until it was too late-- At the grocery store, at a concert, or even on the other side of your door... On Halloween. I read this in a Spider-Man comic once, and it's stuck with me for life-- To paraphrase, "... Evil is the thought behind a face, and it could look just the same as yours." I also think that there's an argument to be made that Michael Myers is more of a force of nature in this movie, and that the REAL monster, the real HORROR, is represented in the inaction taken by those around our two protagonists, Laurie and Loomis. You guys even mentioned how when Laurie screamed for help, (And I'll add, on the ONE night of the year people are all but guaranteed to be home) they turned their lights off and did nothing. In essence, their INACTION is just as deadly as Michael Myers, himself. They might as well be tried as accomplices. To paraphrase, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil, is for good to do nothing.”
Yeah. The "only virgins survive horror movies" trope was accidental here. Notice they never actually say Laurie is a virgin. People just assume she is from her comments about how guys thinks she's too smart and her friend Annie saying she scares guys away.
She is not the only one attracted to Michael. There's fanart. A LOT of fanart. My ex was obsessed with him. And me. But enough about restraining orders.
The sex stuff has always been like an ugh for me in horror films when its shown in every one. But at the same time I don't mind it if theres a reason. People dump on the Friday the 13th franchise for this and while I think objectification could be part of it, people don't acknowledge also the fact Jason almost drowned because the teenagers who were meant to be watching the kids were abandoning their responsibility specifically so they could get laid, sort of like in this film. So its clear that Jason has a specific hatred for sex as well as killing anyone that enters his path because it was sex that caused the teenagers to allow him to being bullied and didnt stop what happened to him.
Your talk at the end of Eastern European folklore and people who believe in it made me think of Cat People (1942) and the main character portrayed by Simone Simon.
@@MegMageReacts I think you might like it, perhaps not as a reaction but in your own free time (if you even have any of that!). It's classed as a horror but is more a psychological story. There's even a sequel called Curse of the Cat People (1944) with the same actors and characters. Very different but equally interesting, it shows a child's view of the supernatural.
27:00 “he hasn’t hurt anyone since then” No Meg nooo!! Michael Meyers literally killed someone for a jumpsuit a few scenes earlier, I think you were the one to point that out too. Love y’all’s content!
The detached laundry room is one indication that this was shot in LA, not Illinois, as it’s too cold in Illinois to have detached laundry rooms. Basements are for that, and there's no way mom's gonna shlep through two feet of snow to toss a load in. Another sign is when they’re driving through town, and you can see mountains in the background. Illinois is known as the “Prairie State” for a reason. Just nitpicking though-----Carpenter and his crew did a great job of transforming a desert climate into autumn in Illinois, even bringing in extra leaves to spread around and painting them fall colors to boost the fall effect.
Actually the only Halloween films you two need to watch after the original, is Halloween 2018 Which takes place 40 Years Later, then Halloween Kills and then Halloween Ends, it finally tell the entire Jamie Lee Curtis Story! All the other Halloween Movie are now NON-CANON. However, the original Halloween 2 is very good with Jamie Lee Curtis, Halloween 4 and Somewhat Halloween H2O 20 Years Later.....
I hope you'll watch Halloween 2 next. Even though the newer Halloween 2018 invalidated all the sequels, the second one can still easily fit into the new continuity, except for one particular plot point.
Great job noticing they created the perfect suburban neighborhood every town wants or has yet nobody wants to help her when the local babysitter is screaming for her life
I thought it was funny how quickly you went sympathizing for the teens to knowing they deserved to die because Laurie was the only responsible one 😂 and you were full on rooting for her at the climax. The writer did his job.
Great fun guys😊 This is where all the horror movie tropes come from. As far as the neighbors not answering her screams remember the police chief saying that kids are pulling pranks...
"I feel like i could fix him," as she sees ther personification of evil and murder Damn, if meg never met caleb she might be on a true crime story by now lol
I like how you're a thirsty Michael sympathizer all the way up until he kills the dog. 😄 Carpenter chose to utilize the heavy contrast of light and shadow to keep Michael obscured because he was only ever referred to initially as 'The Shape'. Regarding Michael's apparent supernatural power, it's theorized (though unconfirmed to the extent of my knowledge) that Michael feeds on his kills (not literally), but that's to say his kills give him the power to endure the physical punishment he absorbs. That's why sometimes he can take fatal injuries and keep going without stopping, while other times he 'dies' and takes a few moments to recharge and come back to life - his power is determined by how much he's killed to that point, and the amount of time since his last kill. All that said, if you're going to watch the sequels canonically, you'll have to ignore every Halloween movie until Halloween 2018, as it and its two sequels retcon (for better and for worse) every previous movie except for the original.
Hi i hope you continue this franchise I love this reaction and discussion. Their are different interpretations of michael myers in the films 1 2 4 5 6 is one timeline and then their is 1 2 7 8 and the new version 1 2018 kills and ends there is also the RZ remakes. The comics and novels are also good My favourite interpretation is the 2018 timeline but I also love the the original timeline
If evil people truly rule the governments, then on the subject of community, well, to quote Luna Lovegood, "That's how I'd want you to feel. Alone. Because if it is just you, you aren't as much of a threat."
"Why is he doing this?" --> That's why you watch new, exciting movies: To find out exactly that. In real life, unfortunately, people (--> children, adults, teenagers) are murdered all the time - and every day - by completely "crazy" killers ... "Why is little Michael Myers running around in front of the house?" --> Why not? I was often right outside the house when I was a little boy. Even in the evenings. "Why doesn't he turn on a light in the kitchen?" --> I don't always turn on the light in the kitchen when I go to the fridge. I think the plot is absolutely understandable. However, even on the 250th (approximately) rewatch of the movie, it still drives me crazy that Laurie keeps dropping/throwing away the stabbing weapons. ;-) On the other hand, the tension has to be kept high in this legendary, great horror thriller. The end of the movie, when you hear Myers breathing and different dark places are shown one after the other, means nothing other than that Michael Myers can be anywhere... 😱 😯
Micheal Myers was a dark Celtic demon from Ireland or Scotland , and it resided inside Micheals body, therefore he cannot truly be killed. He is a supernatural being that has above human strength and can also shapeshift. This was explained in the novelization by Curtis Richards, but it wasn't really explained in the movie.🎃🔪🩸

Love this guys. This movie is one of the greats! Just to put something in perspective: John Carpenter had no intention of making a sequel to Halloween. The various shots at the end with the sounds of breathing were to symbolize that this "evil force" could be anywhere at any time and could not be killed. Honestly, the sequels have only served to dilute this masterpiece.
great reaction to one of my favourite movies of all time :) you guys have to watch the Rob Zombie version and the sequel too ;) by the way, John Carpenter has done a Stephen King adaptation which you should check out, "Christine" (1983). Also an awesome movie.
There are future movies that explain why Michael is the way he is. They're not great and I believe most of the fandom prefers Michael to just be evil incarnate.
"The Thing' that they're watching in the movie is 1951's version 'The Thing From Another World'. John Carpenter later remade it in 1982. Oh, the 2018 Halloween is pretty good. It's sequels? Not so much. Also, the Rob Zombie ones suck.
Discovered this channel from this video and I LOVE your sense of humor and analysis, but anime/superhero stuff just isn't my thing... it would be cool if you guys maybe integrated classic horror into your regular schedule though. I'd recommend starting in order though with modern stuff starting with Psycho (a proto-slasher) and then Texas Chainsaw Massacre (either proto or the first) to get an idea of how this evolved into Halloween which was probably the first example of a full modern slasher (though arguably Black Christmas has a say in that). And YES, the originals were actually BRILLIANT, it was only the copycats that turned their original ideas into cliches that tarnished their reputation. A good example involves the death of the two teenagers in this film that just had sex (and his sister). They served mostly to scare teenagers (and like you guys said, it's scary because you're vulnerable much like how they intensified the action film, Die Hard, by having the protagonist be barefoot). It wasn't until around the time of Friday the 13th that filmmakers were consciously punishing teenagers for having sex, but now people look back on this film and think it's doing the same thing, when it's not. Similarly, a lot of people unfairly criticize old 1970s slashers because the characters behave stupidly (e.g., "Why would she go there, when...") ...forgetting that first, the characters don't know they're in a horror film, and second, that not only were the cliches in 70s horror NEW and NOT cliches, but the whole concept of serial killers was a relatively new thing to mass media. Both Psycho and Texas were inspired by ED Gein who became notorious in the late 50s, but it wasn't like how it is now where there are entire shows, podcast, novels, films, comics based on these people. This is also why we used to let children walk around on their own (which to be fair, statistically speaking, WAS safe seeing that the likelihood of any kid being kidnapped or murdered was always REALLY low). The characters in these films didn't grow up knowing all the tricks like yelling fire, putting your keys between your knuckles, or always checking the backseat of your car first (I'm sure this film popularized that, but people still unfairly criticize Annie for not doing the same when again, she didn't grow up watching herself or other victims getting killed in a slasher film).
I suspect a lot of the misogyny in films late in the big horror boom came from the fact that a lot of the early slasher villains like Michael Myers or the killers in Dario Argento movies were motivated by misogyny or discomfort with desire for women. Over time, as the victim characters cycled out and the killers remained as the faces of the franchises, the films came to identify more with the killers than the victims, including those misogynistic motivations.
Sounds like a conclusion you’re trying to force on us instead of listening to what we actually said. Show us exactly where we said that. This comment strikes me as coming from someone who loves looking for fights online. It’s not a worthwhile hobby. Get a better one. - Caleb
For all that he was paid 20 grand.
yep he was able to pull off such great projects within a very tight deadline.
20 grand fir a months work in 78 is still good money , that was enough to buy a decent home, and he got a career out of it , id take rhat deal but i wouldve also asked for a percentage
@@andrew-rn9ui it's amazing
Also he looked pained with the mask off because laurie did get him pretty hard right in that eye with the coathanger, he goes blind in that eye later
Yep it's even revealed at some point
I was honestly really intrigued by the discussion you two had at the end. Not only do you guys react, but you have so much to add beyond that; you add things that I’ve never noticed or acknowledged myself as someone who’s seen the movie so many times. Thanks for the reaction!
Thanks for watching!
Love that you commented on the look and realism early on. I think it’s because they were limited in budget so there’s more reliance on natural light sources plus it’s all on location instead of studio sets where too many aspects can be manipulated resulting in an uncanny valley effect.
Yup funny thing is it's heaps better than several movies that took years to film, now that's saying a lot
To answer Meg question the name from A Texas Chainsaw Massacre is Leatherface.
Fun fact: Michael's age in the end credits is incorrect. He was 6 ysars old in the beginning in 1963, making him 21 in 1978, and they corrected this in sequels.
indeed
That was the 1950s version of The Thing. Carpenter's 80s version is a remake (or better said, a re-adaptation of the original novella).
Oh, if you're interested the Halloween franchise timelines are:
The "Prime" timeline --> Halloween (1978), Halloween II (1981).
I reckon the remake is heaps better
You guys commented on how he looked like he was in pain when Laurie removed his mask. The way I understand it is that he is no longer human to the point that the mask becomes his true face, for me the expression of pain and confusion when it is removed shows that he only feels complete when he wears it.
I think so too, it's as if the mask has become part of his face to the extent that he feels naked without it on.
I was so surprised about how many girls actually like Michael and have a thing for him😅 And he doesn’t even have to say a word 😂
I think I'd want a man who Could be bad but chooses not to be bad."
Then, there are women who have the Florence Nightingale effect because they think they can nurse a man back to health aka Save him from being a bad man and change him through the power of love.
Rob Zombies Halloween was horrific
@@Cyber_Samurai20 The first one is watchable/serviceable, But RZH2 is a crime against humanity.
@@Rocket1377Halloween III is a pretty good movie that's got a very unique premise. People who say otherwise typically just have no imagination.
The theorycrafting and interpretation you guys are doing in the wrapup has me convinced you'd LOVE Halloween Ends.
yeah the scene with no one helping her is a really good example of the bystander effect.
Wouldn’t saying Fire just make everyone run away?
In the credits it isn't refered to as Michael but as The Shape. This implies it is the Shape that evil took. No demons, no human trauma, only a void in human form.
The Lindsey line was actually supposed to be "Annie", but apparently the actor mistakenly said the wrong name. It still makes my stomach churn every time considering that there are people who really do make sick "jokes" like that...
EW.
That's my take. haha
Yeah I think most suburbian folks got their own thing going on so it gets hard to notice what's happening outside
I’ve watched every scary thing Michael scares me the most
He's also the coolest horror movie character IMO
There are a million sequels but I would recommend just jumping to the 2018 movie, it serves as a direct sequel to this movie and ignores the others
The recent trilogy is my favorite
Meg really has two sides: One of them loves The wholesome good Guys (like Caleb and Alistair for example) and the other side is just really attracted to people like Astarion and apparently Micheal FREAKING Myers… either that or Caleb has a reeeeaaally dark Side that he hides very well… I don’t know wich one sounds better
She also loves Superman and The Joker, so it's definitely Meg who has a dark side.
This is actually so accurate. Those are my main types of men. And dw, Caleb's in the Alistair group, I'm the one with the dark side 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I will say though in Caleb's acting years he got type cast as evil a lot 👀
That was actually the intent of the ending shots to give the audience the feeling that he could be anywhere even your own home one last creep out as you left the theater.
When I was a little kid in the 70s we would say going outside and just wander around the neighborhood 5-10 years old
Texas Chainsaw Massacre is Leatherface, A Nightmare on Elm Street is Freddy Krueger, and Hellraiser is Pinhead.
All the classics
Yup! & Friday the 13th is Jason Voorhees
@@shutupnvibe Yup
1. H1 and H2
2. H1, H2, H4, H5, H6
3. H1, H2, H H20, H Resurrection
4. H1, H 2018, H Kills, H Ends
The Halloween series originally meant to be a anthology which is why Halloween 3 is a different story. But when H3 was released they realized people wanted more Michael Myers.
Also it’s 2 complete remakes by a director named Rob Zombie who came out with H 2007 and H2 2009.
I always thought it was weird that the killer had the same name as the SNL guy that voiced Shrek
Hahahaha yeah IKR, when I first heard about Michael Myers I thought it was Shrek's voice actor until I searched it up.
Meg: "I feel like i could fix him"
Caleb: 🤨😐🫤
"And Michael has a different, scarier mask."
Yes. William Shatner is much scarier than a hockey goalie.
yeah he's a scary fella aye
The Rob zombies Halloween remakes take out most of the suspense and replaces it with f bomb. No really if you want a Halloween movie where 90% of the dialogue is f bombs Rob zombies halloweeen is the movie for you.
Of course she does lmao we can all tell Meg is a freak 💀😂
Welcome to the Freak Kingdom. Therapy is always optional, but kinks are mandatory.
Its William Shatner. The mask Michael Myers wears is a Halloween mask of Captain Kirk.
Yup quite iconic
The capacity for evil and horror can come to any town, no matter how tranquil, how pure. Live your life, be happy, but be on your guard because the Boogeyman is out there.
Michael scares me to death
I think he's awesome
Y'all should check out Halloween II. It came out in 1981, but serves as a direct sequel to this movie picking up right where it leaves off on the same night! It aslo provides some more back story for Laurie and Michael. It's definitely worth watching.
Yep it's an amazing sequel, I remember most people giving it positive reviews.
Also you're right about the academic/literary analysis, there are quite a few film analysis essays and books on pretty much all the themes you were reading into this and personal experiences. I can point you to some journal articles and academic works on Halloween 78 and horror films in general if you want, feel free to ask
Hope you two are having an great and awesome day ❤
Please Please continue the franchise! Halloween 2 picks up right where this one left off!!
Like your reaction, now you should watch the sequel, it’s start off were it left off 😅
Fun fact Michael's mask is the face of William shatner for those who don't know
@@fynnthefox9078 oh yeah that's right I forgot about that that's interesting
@@fynnthefox9078it would’ve made him look more creepy imo
I can’t help but imagine a romantic version of this film now with Michael standing outside of Laurie’s window holding a boombox.
Evil is the thought behind a face, and it could look just the same as yours."
I also think that there's an argument to be made that Michael Myers is more of a force of nature in this movie, and that the REAL monster, the real HORROR, is represented in the inaction taken by those around our two protagonists, Laurie and Loomis.
Best reaction ever to this movie.. I truly enjoyed this reaction..Thanks, I’m subscribed!
That’s so nice! Thank you :) we’re glad you enjoyed!
Yeah. The "only virgins survive horror movies" trope was accidental here. Notice they never actually say Laurie is a virgin. People just assume she is from her comments about how guys thinks she's too smart and her friend Annie saying she scares guys away.
Yeah there's no confirmation that she is virgin
I will have to watch that!
27:00 “he hasn’t hurt anyone since then”
No Meg nooo!! Michael Meyers literally killed someone for a jumpsuit a few scenes earlier, I think you were the one to point that out too. Love y’all’s content!
Great reaction and discussion at the end. Excited for more and to see what you think of the rest of Scream.
However, the original Halloween 2 is very good with Jamie Lee Curtis, Halloween 4 and Somewhat Halloween H2O 20 Years Later.....
yep big time skip
the answer to all of your questions about how good it looks: dean cundey
I hope you'll watch Halloween 2 next. Even though the newer Halloween 2018 invalidated all the sequels, the second one can still easily fit into the new continuity, except for one particular plot point.
Yep it's still good to go through them all though because why not
Original Halloween is my fav horror movie. Glad you enjoyed it.
As far as the neighbors not answering her screams remember the police chief saying that kids are pulling pranks...
true
Dean Cundey is a great Cinematographer. The cool Blues used in this gives it a feeling of a cold Fall, even though it was filmed in May of 1978.
"I feel like i could fix him," as she sees ther personification of evil and murder
Damn, if meg never met caleb she might be on a true crime story by now lol
You guys should definitely do the other halloween movies for this halloween season
What scares me the most about Michael Myers is that under that mask he looks like a normal 21-year-old man (61 in 2018) with a wounded left eye.
Yeah he's a man but a dangerous man
Thank you for reacting to the best horror movie of all time, I'm real glad you guys were engaged with this story. Will you watch the sequels?
I know they redid the Halloween films, but I still suggest at least watching the original Halloween II.
same, it's fine if they watch all the sequels though as they're all good.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre has Leatherface; the convo at the beginning full of mistakes is making my face hot
I like how you're a thirsty Michael sympathizer all the way up until he kills the dog. 😄
Carpenter chose to utilize the heavy contrast of light and shadow to keep Michael obscured because he was only ever referred to initially as 'The Shape'.
LOL
Hi i hope you continue this franchise I love this reaction and discussion.
Their are different interpretations of michael myers in the films 1 2 4 5 6 is one timeline and then their is 1 2 7 8 and the new version 1 2018 kills and ends there is also the RZ remakes.
The comics and novels are also good
My favourite interpretation is the 2018 timeline but I also love the the original timeline
All the different adaptations are memorable and iconic.
If evil people truly rule the governments, then on the subject of community, well, to quote Luna Lovegood, "That's how I'd want you to feel. Alone. Because if it is just you, you aren't as much of a threat."
YES MEG IS WATCHING THIS LOL!!!❤
"Why is he doing this?" --> That's why you watch new, exciting movies: To find out exactly that.
In real life, unfortunately, people (--> children, adults, teenagers) are murdered all the time - and every day - by completely "crazy" killers ...
"Why is little Michael Myers running around in front of the house?" --> Why not? I was often right outside the house when I was a little boy. Even in the evenings.
"Why doesn't he turn on a light in the kitchen?" --> I don't always turn on the light in the kitchen when I go to the fridge.
I think the plot is absolutely understandable.
However, even on the 250th (approximately) rewatch of the movie, it still drives me crazy that Laurie keeps dropping/throwing away the stabbing weapons. ;-)
On the other hand, the tension has to be kept high in this legendary, great horror thriller.
The end of the movie, when you hear Myers breathing and different dark places are shown one after the other, means nothing other than that Michael Myers can be anywhere... 😱 😯
Awesome mask yay 🎉❤
Micheal Myers was a dark Celtic demon from Ireland or Scotland , and it resided inside Micheals body, therefore he cannot truly be killed. He is a supernatural being that has above human strength and can also shapeshift. This was explained in the novelization by Curtis Richards, but it wasn't really explained in the movie.🎃🔪🩸
That stupid doctor help Micheal Myers the car why did he get out of the car
Which doctor?
His doctor in the beginning

15:57 Meg I had the same reaction as you 😂😂
MICHAEL MYERS IS SOO CUTE AND HOTTT
Love this guys. This movie is one of the greats! Just to put something in perspective: John Carpenter had no intention of making a sequel to Halloween. The various shots at the end with the sounds of breathing were to symbolize that this "evil force" could be anywhere at any time and could not be killed. Honestly, the sequels have only served to dilute this masterpiece.
You should react to the horror movie april fools day on april fools day. I love the movie
Greetings from Chicago ✌️🙏🍿
great reaction to one of my favourite movies of all time :) you guys have to watch the Rob Zombie version and the sequel too ;) by the way, John Carpenter has done a Stephen King adaptation which you should check out, "Christine" (1983). Also an awesome movie.
16:21 I was wondering if you would? Not really surprised, though.
You have to watch the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It's completely unhinged. Great reaction.
There are future movies that explain why Michael is the way he is. They're not great and I believe most of the fandom prefers Michael to just be evil incarnate.
You like the recent trilogy?
"The Thing' that they're watching in the movie is 1951's version 'The Thing From Another World'. John Carpenter later remade it in 1982.
Oh, the 2018 Halloween is pretty good. It's sequels? Not so much.
Also, the Rob Zombie ones suck.
Sack this reaction, stop start ,, cracking me up
You should watch a nightmare on elm street 1984 for next horror film
I think youd also love the friday the 13th movies
I honestly thought it was two chicks watching this until a few minutes in 😂 oops
John Carpenter is big fan of dead space
Yeah same I love reactions to this franchise
I've got a thing for Michael Myers too lol 🎃🔪❤
19:00 i prefer someone with a bit more of personality... Like Freddy!!!
Agree to disagree but fair enough
I liked the reaction video. The music at the end make it too hard to hear you guys. =)
Their intro was way too short.
I suspect a lot of the misogyny in films late in the big horror boom came from the fact that a lot of the early slasher villains like Michael Myers or the killers in Dario Argento movies were motivated by misogyny or discomfort with desire for women. Over time, as the victim characters cycled out and the killers remained as the faces of the franchises, the films came to identify more with the killers than the victims, including those misogynistic motivations.
eh I don't think there was misogyny involved in this
I love the ableism that psychopath = immediately a homicidal and bad person. 🙄
Sounds like a conclusion you’re trying to force on us instead of listening to what we actually said. Show us exactly where we said that.
This comment strikes me as coming from someone who loves looking for fights online. It’s not a worthwhile hobby. Get a better one.
