- Loved this song for a while and particularly the way Christie Moore changes a lot of the lyrics over time. We wrote our own last verse to convey the kind of problems that may push us to climb on the wagon. I doubt it would work but you never know!
Lyrics:
I dreamt a dream the other night I couldn't sleep a wink
The rats were tryin' to count the sheep and I was off the drink
There were footsteps in the parlour and voices on the stairs
I was climbin' up the walls and movin' round the chairs.
I looked out from under the blanket up at the fireplace.
The Pope and John F. Kennedy were starin' in me face.
and suddenly it dawned at me I was getting the old D.T.s
When the Child o' Prague began to dance around the mantlepiece.
Well Goodbye to the Port and the Brandy, to the Vodka and the Stag,
To the Schmiddick and the Harpic, the bottled draught and keg.
As I sat lookin' up the Guinness ad I could never figure out
How your man stayed up on the surfboard after fourteen pints of stout.
Well I swore upon the bible I'd never touch a drop.
My heart was palpitatin' I was sure 'twas going to stop,
Thinkin' I was dyin' I gave my soul to God to keep.
A tenner to St. Anthony to help me get some sleep.
I fell in an awful nightmare - got a dreadful shock.
When I dreamt there was no Duty-free at the airport down in Knock.
George Seawright was sayin' the rosary and SPUC were on the pill.
Frank Patterson was gargled and he singin' Spancil Hill.
I dreamt that Skinny Lister had called it all a day
Excelsior had struck a rock and gone down in the Waves
Our discord got deleted, the servers just went black
And Kimbers men went off to Greece and never made it back
The Llandogger collapsed and took the Old duke in the fall
The publishers for Christie Moore were trying to sue us all.
And then I saw that Taylor swift was covering Wellerman.
Twas then I knew i'd never ever ever drink again
Well Goodbye to the Port and the Brandy, to the Vodka and the Stag,
To the Schmiddick and the Harpic, the bottled draught and keg.
As I sat lookin' up the Guinness ad I could never figure out
How your man stayed up on the surfboard after fourteen
15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22….etc.
Pints of stout

Very amusing song & loved the facial expressions😅
What a lovely lead from Robbie! Very adequate!!
Who would have thought anyone would cover this, of all of the bold Christy's songs? I remember learning about Irish politics from this song when Christy sang it in Sanders Theater in Cambridge, Mass (a five minute walk from the Sinclair, where you played, and a beautiful venue). Of course, when he sang that in 1990, the last verse went -- "When I dreamt I was in a Jacuzzi with yer wan from Number Ten, I knew I'd never, never ever drink again!" :) Thank you for this cover!
And the other verse goes "Ian Paisley was saying the rosary and Mother Theresa was on the pill" 😅
Great cover! Y'all should do a cover of The Big Hewer and White Squall.
The made up last verse is so good. If I had a vision of any of those I would definitely snap out of it.
Another gloriously silly song sung by some talented gents. HUZZAH!
a cover of 'Over the Hills' form sharpe, 'Cornwall My Home' from the fishermans friends or 'Skull and Bones' from home free would be amazing.
Such a wonderful patter song, it raised me out of the grumps (Been spending my morning trying to draw vector art when the grid lines are invisible, and I'm using the number pad keys in lieu of an actual mouse). Robbie singing about madness saved my sanity today.
That was a fun one! So much happening!
ahhh this song makes me wanna see you guys again soo much
Woo hoo!!!! One of my favs from Christy, way back when. Love the updated lyrics. Adequate 😇
"The Big Hewer" and "White Squall" would be great songs to consider doing covers of!
Hi guys 😊 thank you so much for this fabulous cover of one of my favourite Irish artists !! ❤❤❤
Love to see you guys cover a bit of christy!
Just the bit of happy I needed today!
This is amazing! Would love to hear you guys do more of Christy's music, he's an absolute legend over here in Ireland
He’s a legend to Irish Americans as well.
Octenth gents, very excited that you've got news songs for us!
Great vocals, great instrumentals, great audio mixing. What could possibly go wrong with dancing to this?
Most adequate, lads! More Christy Moore please!
Great harmonies, as usual, lads! Adequate, adequate! PLEASE tell me Taylor Swift will NEVER go near Wellerman!! or maybe she'll drown?
A brilliant whirl of fun and pure silliness
This is great. Would you ever do a cover of sonnys dream?
Christy is a legend of the left here in ireland. Always out with us at protests and on the right side of history! Cheers for this lads
I'm in the U.S., so i'd never heard of him before now... but as an old lefty, I feel the need to give him a few listens!
@@Cry_Havoc viva la quinta brigada, don't forget your shovel and lingo politico are some good ones!
@@mischief.brewed Thank you!
@@Cry_Havoc love and solidarity!
@@mischief.brewed One of my favorite things about this fandom is how willing people are to share other groups! I grew up listening to American folk, and now I get wonderful recs of the other side of the pond! Love and solidarity!!!
Such a fun and funny song! Very adequate 💕
Excellent as always guys! Love your harmonies
What a fun tune! Thank you boys! 🏴☠️
Myself and an old friend called christy "the human bodhrán" for the course of this song 😅 love it! Good stuff.
I love the twist you guys put on the song. Absolutely adequate! Please could you three cover Rye Whiskey or Wreck of the Carl D. Bradley next?
Ingenious cover
I'd still like to hear a harmony version of Court of the Crimson King.
That was great! I love it. 😂
Made me laugh, thanks!
This is great !
That was a lovely song, gents.
Excellent!
Love it, thank you
Bloody lovely work Gents!
Fantastic song! Added to the gardening playlist!
Well that was fun🎉
As i always do, ill request Field Behind The Plow and / or Lies by Stan Rogers. And, as a very slightly off the wall one, Coyote Song by Bright Eyes.
This song is very Christy Moore even with robbie singing I was kinda hearing it in his voice, even tho I had never heard the original before.
I'd been hoping you'd do some Christy Moore, but never dreamed of this one! Good fun. Any chance of City of Chicago, as a complete contrast? Or Yellow Furze Woman?
I was able to take my Mum to see Christy Moore in Doncaster and he kindly spoke to us for almost the entire interval after I asked one of the crew if he could get him to sign a couple of programmes for two friends who often covered Ordinary Man. They were doing a charity gig that night so missed seeing him. He charmed my Mum into a puddle! Hearing her accent, he told her he'd learned Black is the Colour from it's composer in a Glasgow pub. It was probably her last night out, due to her lifelong health problems, and a treasured memory. I wish she could have seen you guys.

So much fun! Highly
Oh my gooeyness! Especially the new verse! Edited to ask: Is that JD's mandolin? Robbie's show up differently in my memory. Not that I worry about these things.
Very adequate! Here's a vote for corncrake
probably a long shot, but I'd love a cover of the scorpion departs but never returns by Phil Ochs (Naval themed and I think a beautiful songs) either that or pleasures of the harbor
Would you guys consider doing a cover of 'Lies An Lurighan" by Scatter The Mud? It's a Scottish folk song that is really cool.
Very adequate
Back in the day, I saw Christy do this. It was one fun concert. Which is the song where he’s coming home drunk and sees dancing bugs and things? I really miss summer outside festivals.
The Reel in the Flickering Light from Ordinary Man.
@@lorrainescripture8060thanks. Getting old is not for suckers.😊
(2:25 for bass fans)
Deeply strange with an English accent, but the last verse - ha!
Adequatober 10th, very cute 🙂 Voting for Antiguan Graveyard.
Wasn't it just the cutest? ❤😊
@@Yasemin_Sky 🥰
Y'all should do some instrumentalized take on "Boney Was a Warrior!"
Edit: I mean y'all have already done "The Death of Nelson," so I think it'd be nice!
I missed it by a couple seconds. Damn it!
Christy Moore?? Does this mean there are Planxty songs in the works?
Swift x Johns collab when
Crazy? I was crazy once, they put me in a room, a rubber room, a rubber room with rats! Rats make me crazy.
Can you add captions to this? The auto-generated ones are not adequate.
Better than the original
Could you guys do soldier poet king next?
Did he say "our discord got deleted" lmao
Lol
Uhoh?
I loved to hear Taylor's cover of Wellerman. Lolol
Is the lead in this song Australian?
