I’ve had several kayaks. I loved my native Titan 12 but it was just too much boat for me. I now have the native slayer max 10. It is a nice fast kayak and I can still stand up in the boat. Love the storage!! I think the slayer max 10 is going to become natives most popular kayak! The titans are great but just so HEAVY!!! Love the videos Greg you are the man!
After the fog burned off, it turned out to be a beautiful day. Glad you didn't get skunked! Thanks for the feedback on kayaks - it was very helpful to hear the differences. It made me think of the ones I saw at Costco some months back (definitely not meant for our type of bass fishing!) Keep those videos coming 😊🎣😊

Me and a buddy fished there by the old parrot's ferry bridge, back when they were filling it up for the first time in the spring. Just nailed em. Using little deep big o's. Crappie, blue gill and bass colors.
Me too. Interested to hear how they compare. Honestly, I’ve been considering getting rid of the torqeedo in favor of a bow mount motor guide with pinpoint tech… just haven’t pulled the trigger…
I’d be interested in your thoughts about the difference in the nk-180 vs torqueedo…. There’s a considerable price difference obviously so I’ve been wondering if it’s comparable to speed . Thanks !
That price difference is largely down to the fact that the Newport doesn't come with its own battery. It's not a bad deal though because it gives you more flexibility. With the Torqeedo you're stuck with their battery pack.
For sure! I obviously need to put in some time to formulate an honest review but one of the biggest drawing points is what @clifford Hutt said. The ability to have your own battery is huge and for the new Titan we'll be outfitting in the coming months, that'll be ideal for the build.
You bet man. I remember living in NY and binging on videos, organizing tackle and checking the forecast on the off chance it would hit 45 one day to maybe sneak out during the winter months!
Thanks for this 'mother truckin' video bro. Always look forward to you sharing your experiences especially when work doesn't allow me to get out on the water. Again, Thank Ya Sir!
The NLD never cam out with the aluminum baseplate, at least not to my knowledge. But, I’m not on FB anymore so I’m not up to speed on what he’s doing. The baseplates would’ve made his handles bulletproof IMO.
Thanks Greg I saw that kayak question on the last video. I have to say that I made my new kayak selection off of watching your channel and studying your set up. Where your electronics are , net placement , paddle placement etc. Mine is a 22 Native Slayer propel 12.5 with the Newport vessels 180 ( 60 amp hr lithium 24 v). Still learning my set up but very satisfied with it so far
Great question. My personal preference is stern just because it's really like a "big motor" for me. Get from point A to point B. Using the pedal drive, even in big wind, I've been able to hold position just find. That's not to say I don't think a bow mount with spot lock wouldn't be killer, its just weighing the options at that point and realizing I can't have both on the kayak at once. Therefore, I opt with the stern mount. Plus hitting a stump at full speed with a bow mount would really suck
I know I have seen some of your buddy’s such as mike and Alden with the bow mounts would you say your stern mount was noticeable faster than a bow? Haha I remember seeing a video were mike actually put his bow mount on the stern of his hobie pretty sure it ended up being a fail.
Could you tell me what kind of Battery 🔋 Box that was used for you new Newport Vessels drive setup? I didn’t know if it’s a Custom made one or if it’s from Newport Vessels? Thanks Greg. And love how good your Native Titan turned out.
Pump, pause, Pump, pause, pump pump, pause on that bladebait. Let it go to the bottom, get a lure knocker for snags. Fish the ledges and deep points, it works it just takes some patience and rhythm.
That back is gonna get tired of that tailgate loading in a few more years. Trailering my kayak is the best upgrade I ever did. If I got to drag a kayak through woods I'll find something else to do. Desiring and needing to do something are two different things.
I swear I love your videos! I don't even kayak fish! I love my bass boat but you are making me want to get a kayak...I mostly fish small rivers and creeks and we only have 2 boat ramps near me but they put in 8 or 9 kayak only launch points so it would actually be easier for me to get to the places i fish by using a kayak and not having to run 20 miles in the bass boat...It really does look fun but it would be a big adjustment learning to fish sitting down, I stand up the entire time im on the boat now...
For the kayak... how did you pick those particular ones? The breakdown of each was good, but what features do you look for in a kayak, what was it that made you choose them? Then I can try to use that info to apply to finding myself a kayak and not be limited to only those 3 choices. Video on how to get unsnagged would be great, like different knockers, which work from a kayak, how do you deploy them, what weight do they need to be, what about the flicking of the line technique or the throwing your rod down the line to try to knock it loose?
What a good guy that’s awesome usually when I get to the mechanic he says I needed new Johnson rods it was a little extra than the estimate sorry! He’s an honest good dude
You moved on from the Torqueedo? how does the Newport measure up? speed, weight? Ive been meaning to get up to Melones but ended up getting the Covid. thanks for sharing your trip
Newport maxed out at about 4.5 mph but it's about 1/3 the weight and only had to run 1 battery which was nice. I think I had about 70% battery left on a 24v 50ah after cruising around the lake at varying speeds for that half day of fishing. Still too early (and not enough experience) to make a true comparison but the battery situation is something I know I will enjoy with the Newport
Actually if he ever wants an apprentice he can hit me up. Id be down to sweep floors or make deliveries for him to get a chance to learn what he does lol
Currently in a Bonafide 117, looking to upgrade to the slayer max. Been looking at the 10 ft since I roof top on a 4 runner. I would go to the 12.5 if I got a trailer. The steering handle seems to be the biggest knock on these natives with many saying upgrade to the Berly Pro is a must. Thanks for the info Greg.
you bet Jason! I will say the slayer max (and new Native boats) do not need the upgraded handle/steering. Luckily last year they corrected it with a better steer handle plate and cables so there are no pinch/rub points (which I definitely experience on my previous models snapping my fair share of cables. The slayer maxs' I have been using both in CA and NY have stock cables/handles and not a single issue.
Funny in some shots we can see the fish loading the rod before you hit ‘em! That accidental fish you can see the weight of the fish on the rod? Course through a video it might be a snag but this time was a fish! Cheers man, hope all is awesome -
Still have it. So far so good with the Newport but can't honestly say since I haven't used it for all but one trip. I do think it'll be more convenient with the battery situation though.
I had a Titan and I had so many issues with it. My Drive was replaced three times. The customer services was questionable at best from the guys at Titan. I ended up swapping to a Hobie PA 12 and never had a problem with that boat and The customer service was way better. Not to knock Gregg but to each is his own
When u have to buy after market parts for a yak to make it operate better speaks for itself. If it wasn’t for Berlwy Pro the Titan would absolutely suck
I’m in the same boat with my titan , have had to replace the steering handle , cable , steering and rudder, now I have the rear hatch leaking water into the hull & deciding whether I want to upgrade it to a Hobie hatch or just seal it with marine goop. Also not happy at all with native customer service. Will wait for Hobie to come out with a 360 v2 drive before I make the switch.
@@robb158 I Loved my Titan but it was just way to much. Hobie's aren't perfect but I was always able to get on the water when I wanted to and I didn't need after market parts to make it operate better. A little more expensive but you get what you pay for.
For sure man, I know the older models had their fair share of issues. I know I had my share of snapped cables (luckily no drive issues so to speak). I will say their new boats come with a better steer handle/cable mechanism that is much better. Been using stock cables and handle on the slayer max for a year with some good abuse and no issues yet
@@GregBlanchardFishing The only thing that really matters is getting out on the water to do what we love to do best. I now fish out of a Phoenix. Talk about an upgrade. Its good to know that Native is evolving hopefully their customer service has as well. By the way, you know that Berley Pro Steering is still better than the stock item as does your magician who upgrades your Yak
@@GregBlanchardFishing I agree. I have a coosa. I like the adjustable positions of the flex drive without having to remove it. But more parts mean more things that can break. Thank you for the reply
Hey Ryan, romel mounted it under the boat in the recessed part of the hull with the wiring going through the boat into the hull right below where the drive drops in. Definitely a tricker install job than say the slayer maxs' that come with transducer plates and walls electronics ready.
Love them and they are a must! Depends on the boat but for the Titan I would try to keep it under 300 pounds and I've probably come close to having that much added weight lol
Hey Greg I’m looking to upgrade from my entry level kayak and appreciate your feedback on the three kayaks you have. My question is why did you pick 10/10.5 version and not 12/12.5? Was it a transportability based decision?
Hey G! What’s your average distance covered? I’m thinking about a motor for my Outback, but I think I’ll miss the simplicity I have now. You doing 20-mile days?
Hey! man, hard to say since I was adjusting speeds all day. I think I went about 5 miles total that day at varying speeds and had 70% battery left. I think Romel said with the battery we were using we could make out the throttle and go about 12 miles.
That's awesome that you've been so impressed with the Slayer Max 10..because I've been looking at my brand new one sitting on saw horses in my garage for the past 3 weeks..ponds are iced over. So can't wait to get out there. How do you like those NRS boots Greg?
So question about why you dont have a bigger kayak? You fish a lot of big water.. why dont you have a 12+? Im 5 10 165lbs had 2 14ft.. Cuda and a pro angler.. domt think i could go smaller.. always been interesting youre main choice is that short
Don't see the need. I had a titan 13.5, way too much boat for me but I do think a 12 would be just fine and probably better. Like the shorter boat too since I fish areas where the spaces can be tight and a shorter boat needed (Flooded trees and bushes, behind docks, etc). Also I like less boat sticking out of my truck when battling traffic lol
I dont use social media "Facebook/ insta" so is there another way I can get ahold of the Wizard? I live in northern Cali so have no trouble driving.....
Just in case no response: In CA extra rod stamp (17.02 for Resident) is good in any inland water except where barbless hook/artificial lures required. Worth the extra $$ IMHO.
Would you mind talking about tackle organization and storage between all three of your kayaks, like how you organize them and why etc for each kayak. Unless you do it all the same
Any way you can do a video on fish finders on a kayak? This is my first year kayak fishing. I have a 12” lost creek pro angler peddle drive. (not recommend, multiple rudder cable issues) my wife just got me a garmin striker 7cv for Christmas an I can’t seem to get the thing dialed in. Seems to only work while the kayak is moving, I semi know how to read it. But my set up once I “see fish” is where I’m failing I think.
@@GregBlanchardFishing right on man! California love! (Santa Rosa ca) yeah there isn’t any videos on how to set up a fish finder for a kayak on TH-cam. There’s videos on how they mounted their fish finder but for newbies I’m sure I’m not the only one lost in this world on what settings they should be set on when on a kayak vs bass boat. Mine for some reason seems to stop reading anything once I come to a complete stop. Still haven’t figured out the settings for it to read while idling
So far so good, only 1 trip with the NK so far but very efficient and I enjoy only having 1 battery setup. I am going to put one on my Slayer max as well. I bet we'll be able to push 4.5 mph at full capacity and obviously distance will depend on the battery size youre using
@@GregBlanchardFishing great thanks for reply. I really appreciate the time. I invested in bioenno 40ah personally. The nk requires 24v so I'm figuring that's a good amount of watt hours unlike a 12v. Anyway, I really enjoy your videos. Thanks again

Hey Greg! Love your channel and been a loyal sub. for a long time. Why did you go witht he Newport NK-180S? You just recently invested into the Torqeedo 1103 with multiple batteries. Did you get a sponsorship?
Thanks Dennis! There were a few reasons but one big one was the battery situation and really the versatility of the system. Going to retire my boat soon and the new kayak build just makes more sense with flexibility of battery options. There are some other things they have in the works that I'm pretty excited about that I'll reveal later

Nope but mine is honestly never been opened and is just about permanently crusted on lol. I get some water through the cable line holes only if im taking on a ton of water. put a piece of tap where the water drainage "V" is and that solved the problem.
Don't know if you know, but how does the titan compare to the jackson coosa fd? Looked like the wizard was on a jackson
Never been in the Coosa man. I think they are similar just preference at that point.
@@GregBlanchardFishing I agree. I have a coosa. I like the adjustable positions of the flex drive without having to remove it. But more parts mean more things that can break. Thank you for the reply
Hi Greg, how do you have your transducer set up on your Titan?
Hey Ryan, romel mounted it under the boat in the recessed part of the hull with the wiring going through the boat into the hull right below where the drive drops in. Definitely a tricker install job than say the slayer maxs' that come with transducer plates and walls electronics ready.
Do another Rod and reel arsenal for 2022 I love those vids🔥🔥🔥
The Wizard should do a state tour... Let me know when he is in NY. 😀
Thanks Greg! Great info.
How do you like the Native Sidekick so far? What’s the max weight you think it can handle?Great content as always!
Love them and they are a must! Depends on the boat but for the Titan I would try to keep it under 300 pounds and I've probably come close to having that much added weight lol
wizard magic upgrade
Hey Greg I’m looking to upgrade from my entry level kayak and appreciate your feedback on the three kayaks you have. My question is why did you pick 10/10.5 version and not 12/12.5? Was it a transportability based decision?
Watch every video you put out. Keep it up!
Man you make it look so easy
Nice video buddy! When you coming back to Texas for a bit?
Good to be able to watch Greg and get 2.5× pay on this company holiday....
win win lol
Greg,
Is the Newport vessel motor an upgrade or simply trying something different over the torqueedo?
IMO, it's both. Battery flexibility for rigging to start. We'll let people know more once i get more time on the water with it.
I dont use social media "Facebook/ insta" so is there another way I can get ahold of the Wizard? I live in northern Cali so have no trouble driving.....
U are allowed 2 lines in the water at once?... We can't do that up here up north in Ontario Canada w a rod/reel..
Just in case no response: In CA extra rod stamp (17.02 for Resident) is good in any inland water except where barbless hook/artificial lures required. Worth the extra $$ IMHO.
hey greg! love the videos, would the titan kayak be suitable for cartop transport?
Greg, why'd you go from a torqeedo to the nk 180s?
Would you mind talking about tackle organization and storage between all three of your kayaks, like how you organize them and why etc for each kayak. Unless you do it all the same
Good question and I talk about it specifically in this video th-cam.com/video/ybe1R4mEAVA/w-d-xo.html
@@GregBlanchardFishing thank you very much 🎣
What Marina or boat ramp did you use at New Melones
since you are upgrading I'll bet Harbor Freight has some replacement wheels, maybe something pneumatic? tight lines
how did you like the new motor? I see you managed to get some orange on there!! ha! looks good man.
What rod you you use for your jigs? Looking for recommendations since it’ll be my next setup I’m getting
Rod (7’6’’ MH) - bit.ly/3Ec9ErD
What fish finder do you use?
Fish Finder (7’’ model) - amzn.to/2F8iWZg
Any way you can do a video on fish finders on a kayak? This is my first year kayak fishing. I have a 12” lost creek pro angler peddle drive. (not recommend, multiple rudder cable issues) my wife just got me a garmin striker 7cv for Christmas an I can’t seem to get the thing dialed in. Seems to only work while the kayak is moving, I semi know how to read it. But my set up once I “see fish” is where I’m failing I think.
Ill try man. Maybe when I outfit a new boat in a month or so I can include this piece!
How's do you like the nk vs torq you've had? I just purchased the nk180s this past black Friday for my slayer max 10 but I'm in NJ so haven't used it.
Hey Greg, great vid as always. I have the 1103 on my 120 Pdl, and been loving it. Next time out, can you give a quick opinion on how the Nk-180s, performed on your boat. Stay safe bro. 🙏🎣 🤟
Yo! I'll try man, feel free to message me if you have specific questions! only one trip out with it so far though
@@GregBlanchardFishing Thanks Greg. Alway's appreciate the passion, and knowledge, you share with us. You're a true mentor! Tight lines bro. Be safe 🙏 🎣
Hey Greg thanks again for all of the content, you really help me get through the winter months up here in Ohio. I’m thinking of getting a new vehicle in the future and want something that will work with my kayak. what do you recommend for a 13 foot slayer propel? I’m not a car guy at all and only care how it will help me fishing haha
haha well you've certainly got some options. I'm pretty happy with my Ram 1500 crew cab. 6' bed but more storage space for fishing stuff in the cab
What made you change from the torqeedo to the Newport?
I went from Kayak to Bass Boat. I don’t regret getting rid of my Hobie one bit.
Another great video
Question, I see a lot of the times you're using two poles at once do you have a to pull stamp on your license this year? LOL
2 ^pole
@@jamesfaudeck540 In CA extra rod stamp (17.02 for Resident) is good in any inland water except where barbless hook/artificial lures required. Worth the extra $$ IMHO.
Greg releases a vid, I’m hour hour late and it has 1.1k views and I’m #151 like!! Wow! Channel goals
man the community is really what made this channel what it is. Having Premiers last year and seeing the folks that showed up was incredible. super thankful for everyones support.
That rudder handle looks like a geomexus power knob
yes sir
Man, I need a fidget spinner for my kayak!
Give us a rod and reel setup please
Greg , have you had any issues with the rear hatch leaking water into the hull?
Nope but mine is honestly never been opened and is just about permanently crusted on lol. I get some water through the cable line holes only if im taking on a ton of water. put a piece of tap where the water drainage "V" is and that solved the problem. Maybe look into that in case the water isn't actually coming in from the hatch.
