I have been loving the Rebel providence. I tabled a Sloane isd list last week in 3 turns raddus dropping a reserve hangar providence off a corvette which was profunditied off a 75. Nym, Luke and a Bwing ripped apart the quasar before the providence nuked it and the isd with the mc75 mopping up
Thanks for the support, Beaker! It wound up being a bad matchup for Screed, however the two larges are huge point fortresses. It was going to be tough. Needless to say, we learned a lot from this game. - Ken

Ha ha! That pretty much sums up what happened to Vader. In this case, I was really expecting for him to survive the initial attack and then devastate a few X-wings. Honestly, I think double brace would be better alas... not what is on the card. I have ideas for the next time Vader comes out to play... Glad we could help out mid-week and provide a little bit of extra enjoyment. - Ken
I did the same thing with Vader on my debut batrep, Ken. Flew him to far out and got tagged. Fortunately, I got lucky, survived on 1 health, and was able to get him out. Later, he wrecked havoc on ships, twice getting 2 hits and a crit on bombing. Sooo good, but I discovered he still needs to be protected.
Ive played one game as Hera Ball and one game against, and it was crazy good both times. I think Vader has to focus on killing ships or picking off aces. He dies super fast in combat. And thanks for the shout out!

I love DBYs and PDIC but they both feel too good. DBY especially is so abusable on Starhawks. It feels like the Evade buff to small ships is more than outweighed by Salvo when the right decision with a Gladiator is to not shoot a Starhawk.
I think Vader should have Scatter instead of Evade or double Brace for 27-28 points. Col Jendon, Ciena Rae, Howlrunner, and Bobba Fett all either have double Brace or Brace and Scatter and none are more than 25 points with the exception of Bobba. Morna Kae is the most with 27. Hera is also pretty cheap for giving peeps re-rolls as well not bad for 23.
Here is a squadball I have had a lot of success with with vader great non sloane heavy squad setup. • Darth Vader (TIE Defender) (25) • Maarek Stele (21) • Colonel Jendon (20) • Mauler Mithel (15) • 3 x TIE Advanced Squadron (36) • Tempest Squadron (13) = 130 Points
Something to note for Vader, Vader is supposed to be an ace killer. You can't fly him into a ball and expect him to live longer than any other ace. But if you rogue him in after the fact and snipe out hera or Jan or Biggs with your crits adding damage you can cripple an opponents squad strategy at the outset
It wouldn't have mattered. If I recall correctly, John had the range to hit the opposite side of Vader. I needed 2 escort squadrons to protect him. The mistake was to not attack on that first round. Although even then, I very likely still would have lost Vader. - Ken

The new 1.5 rule set for demo is you can do 1 of your 2 attacks during the attack step (instead of 2) and than you can do 1 of your 2 attacks after you move. You still get 2 attacks but they have to be separated by the movement step. -John

I think so too, the galactic Clone wars ship looks a bit goofy, but i realy like the Rebell providence. I think it fits the non uniformed mashed up rebell style
Seems like especially with Screed, a double-ordnance Venator wants Ext Racks + a black crit effect. Expanded Launchers always sounds great on paper, but I always say it's a 9pt tax for the privilege of maybe using Ext Racks a second time. But either way, seems like Imperial Venator is exactly as advertised - essentially a budget ISD, so we shouldn't expect it to take the same kind of punishment or deliver the same raw damage that an ISD can. Still way better than any Victory-class tho. Any plans for a similar Clone Wars RR batrep soon?

The Starhawk is such a beast to kill if the player take enginering dial. Combo with the Providence it was really brutal! ;)

It also helps if you actually keep him close to your escort. That was just terrible positioning.

Agreed Ken, Tel and Vader should have gone in to lock the fighters. Vader's evade is usefull for ship AA.

The only thing I've run from Rapid Reinforcements is the CIS Gozanti. I tried to trigger HIE off of it, but never got the crit.
