    I love the USB return. Signal leaves the mixer at the top of the channel strip (gain only). It goes to my software where I can do anything to that signal, via my computer, and RETURN that "adjusted signal" back to the top of the channel strip, where its flows down that strip, until it gets to the VU slider. This USB loop is the best invention I have ever seen.

      In my mixer, when USB RTN is pressed, the level of the signal is hugely lower than the input level. Do you know if it is normal?

    A quick tip. If you really want to hear only the wet signal coming back in from your Kaoss pad you need to change the switch on the back of the Kaoss Pad from “direct” to “send”. In your video you were still hearing the dry signal mixed with the fx.

    Nothing like a good “mixerface”. Many people want a mixer or an interface or both. But with this, or my Allen + Heath Qu32 or the Behringer x32, you get to go into computer and out from computer to all inputs not just mains. This is future tech!!

      yeah, I just bought the 12 track model today. This is exactly what I was looking for. I was shopping for a mixer/interface combo unit and they all seemed to only output to one channel in USB regardless of haw many inputs. This mixer is simply what they should all be. The main reason I bought this is to plug in my drumbrute drum machine and record seperate drums into individual tracks in ableton. My previous method was simply recording the same track like 5 times with different drums in solo each time lol.

      Only thing I would caution on (for those who may care) is the A/D + D/A conversion quality. I have spoken with many people about if this is the Cream-Of-The-Crop Conversion (in purchase consideration) and I have been told that you will get a better print by Capturing with something like an Apogee, Antelope or UA ... Aside from that, I am told this is a beautiful Analog mixer! At that, I am compelled to look at the Signature version or just be happy with the ability to throw down parts for sketching up later... If only there were Direct Outs! At that I strongly consider the Ghost and take a Harder Look at Toft Desks! At that point, we are on our way to the Big Dogs!!! :P Only thing I ask myself before committing to this world is... How will a Neve, Avalon, API, SSL, Crane Song, etc... Channel sound going Thru this mixer? 🤔🧐🤔

  • @PascaleLeBlanc

    Hi sir, Thanks for your great video! I just got the Signature 12 and it works just fine with Cakewalk (Sonar) too. But I'm having problems to hear the sound from my computer while working on my DAW? It seems like it has to be one or the other... not both at the same time. For example: I have to close Cakewalk to be able to listen to a song on TH-cam. What am I missing?

    • @PascaleLeBlanc
      @PascaleLeBlanc 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Max Husky Nope! I finally found the way to do it ... It was because of the sampling rate which was different in the computer and in Cakewalk (or any other DAW). Both have to be on the SAME sampling rate. My DAW was on 48000 and my computer on 44100. I changed the sampling rate in Cakewalk's audio preferences to 44100 and now everything works perfectly well! One important thing to know is that by default, Soundcraft Signature MTK mixers (12MTK or 22MTK) take chanels 1-2 to play back the computer sound. You just have to enable USB RTN on chanel 1 &2 to hear the system sound. Now I can even listen to both TH-cam and the sound coming from my DAW at the same time! :)

    Thank you for this video its opening up new possibilities for my Hybrid setup. Was hoping to ask a question about a possible mixer/midi/audio interface combo. My current setup is a MPC2500 as my main sequencer, SP1200, launchpad Mk37, Model 12 all running into Ableton Lite. I want to keep my MPC as a main controller sequencer with master midi into Ableton for tracking, (stems, mastering) purposes. Alot of my tracks have more than one sequence (some at different tempos) that's why I have the MPC 2500 as the Master sync.
    I bought the Model 12 thinking I would be able to solve all of this, but just learned the Model 12 only sends MIDI out (and has a MIDI in port unused? unfortunately smh).
    My ideal workflow is to be able sample, make beats on MPC and SP, Use the Launchkey as a MIDI keyboard for Ableton and a Proteous 2000 and being able to seamlessly track everything into Ableton with MPC as the sequencer. Huge Bonus if I can resample from the PC back into MPC (online samples).
    Unfortunately the Model 12 is not cutting it as an audio interface and the DAW control is very lacking. I might have to re-sell this unless I am doing something wrong.. What would be the setup / gear you recommend for this?
    Should I just purchase a Focusrite into a regular USb mixer (Yamaha mgu12 for example) or is there a hybrid Mixer with Audio and especially midi inputs/outputs just like the Focurite that can solve this entire workflow?
    I really appreciate the videos and any tips advice is greatly appreciated!

    I want to play music from a laptop through the 12mtk signature mixer, but the LED indicator on the right side of the MST meter remains with the lights on high, even if I have lowered the level on the channel I am playing in my case 11-12 on the 11-12 am channel pressed usb rtn, pfl and mst and the MST indicator remains unchanged even if I raise or lower the lever level on the respective channel. How can I get the correct index by moving the lever up to increase the mst lights and if I put it down to decrease the level of the mst lights? I want to play music from a laptop or tablet, what connections should I use for good quality usb from laptop rca in or jack in? Thank you very much

    I am sorry my friend but I got even more confused after watching your video reason being is that I didn't see anything connected to inputs 123 and 4? while you were playing the drums and guitar? was the audio coming from the Akai ? and then you were explaining the groups and I didn't see anything connected there either? unless it was the red and white wire on top? I just pick ed the 12 mtk and can't understand how to setup and use it with Cubase 12 :(

    I have the 12 channel one and it's great, except one thing: you have to have the master sliders up, so the speakers are giving out sound if you want any signal on the headphones output. What a stupid thing is this? I can't mix on this in headphones, in silence? I have to turn off my speakers for that?

    Question I have an Apollo Twin where as I use line 3-4 to sum my mix bus out since I’m only limited to that and monitor outs. But my question is can I get a 4ch small mixer and get similar results just running threw the circuitry. I have a pair of klark eq’s and a warm audio bus compressor that I’m currently summing out to. That’s why I was wondering if I put a small mixer in between I can gain sum analog saturation.

    • @wyreduprecordingstudio4701
      @wyreduprecordingstudio4701 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure.. you could do that. You could sum your mix through the twin, out into the MTK, aux out to your chain, bring it back in again, use the groups for infinite parallel processing or gain staging, and send that back into the twin off the main outs of the board. It would certainly have a Soundcraft sound on it by that stage.

    Got a Soundcraft Signature 12 MTK as my first mixer and the volume is VERY quiet when playing guitars through it (either mic or DI) and going out to my KRK speakers or Headphones. The Gain, Channel Fader (routed to master and group 1-2) and Master are all cranked to the max. Sometimes it reaches -3 max volume on the Master Meter, but that's it. Is there something I'm missing here? I heard these mixers were quiet to help clipping, but this is barely audible.

    been planning to get this mixer/interface to provide more input capacity for my growing synth collection and for hands on mixing; Just not sure if it’ll be worth keeping my Motu Ultralite Mk4 around afterwards though. Perhaps I’ll use it in standalone mixer mode just for my drum machine sub group, processing individual 808 channels through the Motu before sending mix to MTK 22 ... Awfully expensive interface just to use for a $300 Behringer drum machine though ;)
    Hope to find other ways to get more mileage out of the ultralite in conjunction with the Soundcraft. Seems like MTK has a lot of options for experimenting with different workflow styles though, and seems great for those of us dipping our feet into rack outboard processing for the first time.

    A great vid as usual, bro. Very well done. I have a question about EQing on this mixer. On the HMF and LMF sweep knobs on each channel, what frequencies do the tick marks represent? For example, the LMF sweep knob starts at 80Hz, the mid point is 400Hz, and max is 2kHz; however, there are 4 tick marks between each of these points. What are these frequencies? Same for the HMF knob. What is the frequency of each tick mark? I've looked all over the internet for this info and can't find it. Any thoughts?

  • @kalebyoung4098

    • @jonathananderson32

      The desk will output that final mix out on special channels 23/24 so you can record everything back into a new stereo track in a DAW and simply call that the end result.

    I’m putting a very similar set up together currently. 22MTK and MPC-X. I’m a bit confused about what audio goes into the MPC?
    All my gear is input to the desk track strips, desk master outs to my monitor speakers. I’m yet to set up the mpc software... but don’t I need audio out from the desk into the MPCX.... I didn’t see you mention this?

    • @MatthewStratton
      @MatthewStratton  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      All the individual inputs can be inputted into the MPC software. For example, if you have a mic on input 3 and want to record it, you just set up and audio track in the software with input 3 and record directly into the MPC software. If you want to record the Master channel from the soundcraft select input 23/24 as inputs to an audio track in the software.

I have a DBX pre in my compressor that I was thinking about side-chaining (curious how that would be hooked up, but I'm sure it won't be hard), a little Presonus TubePre v2, and of course the Ghost pre's on the mixer. Any thoughts?

    Matthew, this is great thank you. So did I understand right? You don't plug the board into the USB directly, you are going out the the Aux output to a USB interface that is then connected to the computer for Live Streaming?

    • @MatthewStratton
      @MatthewStratton  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      For livesreaming. Yes. I plugged a line from the soundcraft into a different board that I plug my mic into. This way it is really simple to monitor my mix without listening to my voice in the headphones. And I can cut out my mic or mix easily if I want to.

      @@MatthewStratton This was my question as well, however I am wondering if you could possibly elaborate on the benefits of using another external interface for the purposes of livestreaming? I am running into issues with Discord, OBS etc. and this seems like a good workaround but I am unclear on whether or not I NEED to use another external mixer as the sound device (I have a Yamaha MG10XU I could use), like if this a limitation I would run into no matter what with the Soundcraft, or if there is something I am missing in terms of using the USB functions to their potential. Otherwise, great video, thank you!

    Do you know if the sub outs and the aux outs are balanced outputs?

  • @OlaB245
    @OlaB245 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why not use the aux outputs to send to you effectsprocessor. That's the usual way to do it, gives a LOT more flexibility.

    • @MatthewStratton
      @MatthewStratton  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here are the two main reason why I choose to do it this way.
      1) all I need to do is push a button to send the signal to the effects. Another push of a button removes the signal from the effects. (alternate turn the knob up until I find the correct level, turn knob down when finished).
      2) I can choose to have the signal stereo or mono, the effect that I am using takes a stereo input. (alternate use 1 or 2 balanced aux outputs for mono or dual mono signal).
      Since I am not using the subgroups to do any type of mixing or monitoring here I choose to use them as aux outputs - bottom line it is easier to push a button to send effects, record them, then push the button again to remove the effects from the signal.
      How do you have your aux outputs configured?

    • @OlaB245
      @OlaB245 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MatthewStratton Then still, you get to use different amounts of the effect on across your channels if you use the aux sends. I see how you like your way for your workflow though. It's unconventional but if it works better for you then by all means.

    • @MatthewStratton
      @MatthewStratton  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right. I can get different signal levels across using the fader if I wanted to, but, I'm not sending multiple channels to a reverb or anything like that. Doing it this way I generally use the effect momentarily and record/sample it into the MPC. I hear you though.

I don’t like using mpc software and I want to take advantage of analog sound as much as possible. After I get all my instruments into the mixer and process them, where is my main recording going to come out?

    • @MatthewStratton
      @MatthewStratton  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you want to print the audio from the master bus you can create an audio track and have the inputs be 23/24. Make sure the outputs of the track are not routed back into to mixer when recording the take. When you are the audio track to record and play/record the track it will record all the changes and eqs and everything you do an send to the Master bus onto the audio track.

    • @MatthewStratton
      @MatthewStratton  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Which mic are you using? I think it depends on the mic you are using. My condenser microphones have plenty of gain. Are you using a dynamic mic? You may need to find a way to externally boost the signal. For example, your will often see a Cloudlifter CL-1 sold with a Shure SM7B because the signal of that microphone is so low.
