- That's my 3s Upgrade Video Stage1 from the Xinlehong Q903.
In this video I'll use a motor fan for better cooling an (U)BEC 5v down converter and some plugs and csbkes to use the fan with the 3s lipo. If you use the stock 2s lipo there's no need for the down converter (2s lipo is fully charged 8,4v the fan can handle it) or if you have changed to an new esc you can use the receiver to power the fan it would also give him only 5v.

Cool upgrade bro, I see a lot of guys cutting up their heatsinks like you've done. Heatsinks work most efficiently when as much heatsink touches the motor as possible, the medium being used to extract the heat is the steel surface that makes contact with the motor so when your cut slits in the heatsink you are removing the medium. A much better idea is to cross cut the fins on the heatsink to create more surface area for the heat to dissipate through the fins. One more thing, I haven't seen anyone use thermal paste, I would give it a try as paste will allow better thermal conductivity. I would expect to see at least 10 degrees drop across all ranges.
I come from a PC overclockers background, I know, chalk and cheese but thermal principles I explained are consistent.

I just got this car .. for the price paid I have to say it is fantastic. I followed your advice and I'm waiting for the pieces from bangood to carry out this upgrade too, oil shocks will follow, and esc with a new radio to increase the range. New sub ... from Italy!! :)

It's an fantastic car out of the box I'll doing much more upgrades,but to be honest on 3s Upgrade shocks it's perfect I really love it 😍.
Love fpv also hopefully in the next year Iam starting again with a small racer 😁🤙🏽
When you upgrade the esc you'll need a new servo also 🥴 normally Iam doing this at the first step to my cars and boats but it runs perfect I'll only do it when the esc is damaged 🙈😁
In the next month Iam trying a big thing with the Q903 can't say right now but please stay tuned.

Yes till now no problem I was driving a long time on 3s these are really good components and metal gears so I am not worried about that.

Or something will break if would upgrade the esc with including fan from a brushless combo and bind with my flysky transmitter.
THE range from the radio is very good I really didn't need more range my Friend.

Great build man. Enjoyed the video. Question...I ran a 3s on this car out of the box. Ran it 2 or 3 times and burnt up the esc. Easy fix but i was wondering what esc i could upgrade to?

The only problem is that the esc and receiver is one combo so if you want to upgrade to another esc you must also upgrade the transmitter / esc combo maybe a very cheap one like the dumbo rc?

Nice video thanks. I am a big fan of the Q901/3. They are great out of the box and plenty fast. I upgraded the shocks which made a big difference and honestly the tires will break over time. Fun upgrade there too. The 3S upgrade - overkill or really worth giving it a try? I am AMAZED at the amount of abuse mine has taken with very few problems. WLToys on the other hand......

No absolutely no overkill and with metal gears no problem to be honest I think you can run it without the fan but it's always a nice plus and I wanted to put some green parts for the hole build you will see 😉

Hi A-Z, why didn't you connect the fan do the ESC directly? Isn't your ESC BEC output voltage equal to 5.0V?
Hey my Friend yes for sure that's possible,but not with that stock esc / receiver combo there's no port to plug it in 😉
You'll need an receiver with min. three channel ports...
One for the servo,
One for the esc,
And one for the fan as example,
The best solution for more power for the fan and don't take from your lipo for the car would be a small 2s lipo connected directly to the fan ☺️👍🏽

Or do it like I do both ways will work for me the easyiest way to have only one battery,but I have to put the 5v down converter Inbetween in the other case you have to get a second battery that you also have to charge or that can be damaged so it's on you what you like 😉👍🏽

Hi, i have seen multiple videos where people have upgraded to 3s and in couple of days there q903 broke down. I think that's only because overheating the motor. I have already ordered my q903 truck, and 3s battery as well. But i am worried if i should upgrade the battery or not. But your's upgrade looks satisfactory. I wanted to ask you how long has it been since you upgraded to 3s and do you use your truck with 3s battery only? Or do u switch between 2s and 3s every now and then.
I am just concerned if it is giving you a long run on 3s without any problems after this upgrade or not.

Well cooling is allways a must have if you saw my last video from the XLF F16 I also drive it on 3s and I will stop it till Iam upgrading to a cooling fan also no doubt about it.
Yes I only drive it on 3s and I only drive one lipo give him a little rest after the lipo is empty and than mostly a second lipo pack and you see how I drive with the car that's how I do it allways no problems at all 😉👍🏽
So yes wait for the cooling fan give him some rest after a run and you will have a lot of fun 🦾😍🏎💯
I heared from some people also that the gears where worn out I don't have this problem till now,but I ordered a spare Motor gear for the case it could be.
I think next to cooling and stuff like this it's important to give your cars some rest and look if there's anything to do tighten screws give it some grease whatever and if your not driving like an idiot 2 hours a day and jumping 5 meter high and whatever your cars will be in good condition.
I've never broken any of my cars no esc no Motor in all the years.

Ran mine on 3s 5 or 6 times for around 10 mins burnt up esc 3 days ago. Take your chances. Then upgrade.
Hello. I want to install such elements in this car. Model: LiFePO4 26650 3pcs -3S, I have a question for you: can this battery fit? Can I fix it inside? Will additional cooling be needed? (maximum voltage 3.6 * 3 = 10.8v minimum 7.5v) how will the battery cutoff work at what voltage? Or is it better to do 2S -?

My truck FINALLY came on 5/8/21 & I immediately put a 3S 25c 2200mah battery in it.... it didn't break, my son and I had a blast....I am gonna grease the shocks before the next time we play with it tho.... we'll see how long it last on 3S.

Well to be honest normally I change everything like you said often stock parts aren't that good and if you upgrade you allways have to change esc servo receiver cause there often these 3 in 1 combos. I like to only have one transmitter for all my cars and boats ( flysky fsgt3 or fsgt5) but it's a lot of money only for this reason to change everything so when one thing is damaged Iam going to change all I need to get to this point.
To be honest my car is perfect in every single way I also pul the grade down from my steering servo cause it's to turny sometimes so because of this iam not interested now to change anything 😁🙈 also the transmitter is perfect with slow function for (my) kids.
But one day for sure I'll also swap it to 4s combo 😉😁👍🏽

For esc a liitle cut out at the side from the body bottom shell and receiver on top from the upper floor plate that's it 😉🤜🏽🤛🏻

Mine arrived today & some of the parts..shocks & another second smaller fan for the esc because that’s more likely to fail than the motor but I’ll not do long use times.not used my car yet but I suspect a nose weight will be needed.

Low speed gently my schnauzer pup lost her mind with enjoyment chasing it..
On low speed if I accelerate hard it just flips..
On high speed it’s virtually underivable….
Got gas schocks & added a stiffener to rear & moved battery foreword for weight…..still underivable…
On low power it’s usable but if I floor it it is too overpowered…
I’ll fit the 25c 1000mah & hope it is more usable….
It is speed sensitive but I’m having to be soooooo gentle or it goes out of. Control mental…
So you see all my driving footage in any stage from the car but that's what's so cool about and fun with the power it needs good driving skills not like an pro or you don't have them that's not what Iam saying and making backflips in stand is awesome not much cars can do that also you have an wheelybar that's perfect so you can do anything and much more with this car than any other for me it's perfect 😉👍🏽

It's allways better to cool down Motor and esc so Iam going to put a second one on it by time.
If your living not in a hot country or in winter / spring time it's not that hot it'll work without also,but allways better to cool down your components 😉

Everything still the same only part after years one Dogbone and that's only because the rear shocks were to long and the Dogbone grinded at the diff cup problem solved after I putt also the upgrade xinlehong ones also in the rear 😁👍🏽

No not really the transmitter and everything stock is really perfect and if you want to upgrade to an new transmitter you have to change the esc and servo also so this doesn't make sense ✌️🏽😁
And you don't have an gyro in this and mostly any car....
It's only used in Drift cars that means if the car leans to one side the gyro turns the servo to the other side.
If you want to upgrade to an good transmitter with good and cheap receivers and in the package is also on with an gyro you can take the

@@a-ztube the brushless mini E-Revo VXL that is brushless and supports 3s out of the box is around $250 I think so your model looks like a crazy good deal for anyone considering one of those but is on a budget. The main downside I can see is that the Traxxas M.E-R VXL has huge aftermarket support for things like A-arms, suspension, and other upgrades that won't be available for the Q903. Plus spares will be much harder to find and take longer to ship for the Q903, while the Mini E-Revo should have just about anything you need available at your local hobby shop.
You're right mate thats traxxas or like arma you can get the parts quicker more upgrades and i think easier too , but for the xinlehong are all parts also available and much cheaper ;) anyway i agree with you .
for low budget the Xinlehong is really impressive didn't thought this before :)

@@a-ztube You too, these are stressful and difficult times for everyone. RC is an expensive hobby. Even when you take an approach like you've shown here with upgrading a low-cost vehicle to something really worth the effort. I have a lot of respect for people who take the time to customize something like the q903 into something impressive like this. I started out with a WlToys K989 1/28 scale Mini-Z type car and a WlToys 144001 1/14 scale buggy. Both are great platforms for these kind of mods, and are really fun out of the box while you wait for parts to arrive. I just recently bough my first "true" hobby grade rc: a Traxxas E-Revo Brushless 1/10. Its marketed as a 1/10 but it uses a 6S ESC and a huge motor usually found in 1/8 scale cars and trucks, so I personally consider it to be 1/8 scale. It is fairly close in size to the Arrma Kraton 6S, just narrower track width and maybe a bit shorter wheelbase. I am happy I started with smaller cars like the 144001 and the Losi Mini-8ight I also have as it allows me to share the hobby with people new to RC without the fear of breaking something really expensive or causing harm or property damage if the vehicle gets out of control. I'm working on converting the 144001 to brushless with parts taken off the Mini 8ight, as I'm upgrading that car to be on-road focused with a 1/10 scale esc and motor. I really enjoy the building, customizing and maintenance portion of the RC hobby as much as actually running my cars. Best wishes from Seattle, Washington State, USA!

At 9:30min you can see it very well I put the lipo on the battery tray cover and just put the strap underneath the tray cover around and because of this the sticky pad that the lipo can't move that's it hope that helps 😉👍🏽

I think you live somewhere much colder than I do. On 3S, mine with a fan goes out on thermal overload after a couple of minutes even on low speed setting.

Schöne Wheelies.. Aber kleine warnung: Bei meinem q901 war bereits nach 2 Wochen (gut, bin auch jeden Tag gefahren) auf 2s das Ritzel verschlissen und defekt und hat gleich noch das hauptzahnrad beschädigt. Differentiale sehen auch schon gut abgenutzt aus.. Befürchte auf 3s wird das alles noch stärker belastet und du wirst nicht lange Freude damit haben. Hab auch überlegt 3s zu fahren aber dafür ist das Material einfach nicht gemacht.

Ich fahre den Wagen schon länger und auch auf 3s bis jetzt alles gut gegangen bei den ganzen metal Zahnrädern mache ich mir auch nicht so die sorgen DIFFS zur Not sperren 😁.
Bin,aber Schon dabei ein par Ritzel von meinen wltoys zu testen werde auch versuchen ein größeres drauf zu machen weil der Wagen unten rum echt power hat denke dann sollte auch nicht ganz soviel Stress drauf seien 😊🤙🏽

No need for all that stuff to run 3s on these trucks, just add a small 3s lipo and run the fan over the motor off a separate, small 2s lipo and red JSt plug

It's an good idea with the second lipo but I don't like to have a second one,but also possible get another fan that runs on 12-24v.
