Jean Alexander was absolutely brilliant. Thank God she chose to share her talent with us. Wonderful, wonderful. She makes me laugh so much the tears roll down my face.
I can hardly relate to the modern Corrie ' never really followed since I came back from a few year stint in the States in 1990 ' with a few exceptional storylines few and far between ' just isn 't the same as it was when I was growing up ' it lost that sparkle and comedy ' community feel it once had.
I can remember whatching this with my lovely mum when I just started my first job coming home to a lovely dinner cupa x corries oh the good old days I must be getting older myself
I watched this as a child when I stayed at my Grandma's, we didn't watch it at my house. I remember her knitting needles clicking away as I sat next to her on the velvet settee, and on a good night, you'd hear her getting some sweets or chocolate out from her secret hiding place, which she'd bring in a crystal bowl to share, my Grandad sat reading his paper, commenting on something funny. She was a cross between Annie Walker & Hilda Ogden, if you can imagine that, how I wish I could go back. We are indeed getting older, I don't think it would be so bad, if so much hadn't changed and been lost, these people, attitudes and cosy lives do still exist, but in such tiny numbers, it is almost just a memory now, so that is what we must do, remember.
Greetings from the land of Oz, give over you mean Australia. Now I have never watched a soap before, but I am addicted to Corrie, any roads, I want say this was real TV, the good old days. How are you, I'm poorly at present with pneumonia but I'll be okay, no danger. I'll watch Corrie repeats and murder cups of tea. Hilda, Stan and Eddie are my favourites and our Brian is sexy. So Torah to you all and thank you.
Yeah, they're wonderful, I'm very grateful for these episodes. I appreciate them more now than I did when I started watching last year, I know the characters better now. The writing and most of the performances were consistently good, sometimes excellent. Johnny Briggs, RIP, as Mike Baldwin was always first class. Pity about Gail and Susie, they were never anything but irritating, and Gail just carried on.
Coronation street was worth watching back in those days today it's full of dull boring character's and depressing storyline s written by people who have had a sense of humour bypass,,
I've always wondered why they changed Ivy's character when they brought her in full-time and made her into such a miserable individual. They should have kept her as she was.
Albert Tatlock was very comical in the last episode. Sneaking past Emily Bishop in the shop with the turkey under his coat had me literally laughing out loud!
I didn't think Brits said 'cheating on' someone way-back-when, but Fred Gee just said it in the shop, I thought it wa a relatively recent import from the States, obviously not!
On one hand I want to think badly of Derek for being a gutless swine, backing out of the house deal with Mavis. But on the other hand, I find Mavis and her pathetic dithering absolutely maddening. So all things considered, Mavis can go tickle.
It's not just the cellar door... It's the gents! And also, if you study the layout of the buildings, that gents door opens right in to Albert Tatlock's kitchen. Which goes a long way to explain why he was a grumpy old goat!
@@theresapierce3934 Funny - I just typed that very word in reply to another comment! They're always ready with a bucket of bubbling crap to pour over each other and all they encounter.
Why didn’t the writers put Fred and Rita together they moved back to Fred Feasts pigpen on All Creatures Great and small, Rita would have made a great hog caller!
1:11:49 Albert, does not look too impressed with the substitute entertainment, bless him. Morals and standards began crumbling in society, when that generation was no more. 👀👀😂😂
Everytime i see suzy birchall with elsie's green blouse on there's no way they are the same size.elsie is quite busty so the blouse should be loose on suzy up top.
Honestly I never seen ribs like that the entire 4yrs I lived in England, see em in states often, especially in the south but, I thought exactly as u when I saw that...
I get the whole club singer backstory with Rita, but she really couldn't sing, not the kind that anyone would pay to hear, anyway. As for Granada allowing the cast to show their other talents, I wonder if Ivy Tilsley ever got to sing, because I read somewhere that the actress who played her was an accomplished singer.
Hilda doing Blackface, is a hard watch, but we have to remember that people in this country thought this was entertainment in the 70s and 80s, thankfully we know better now, but when viewing programmes from this era, we have to expect stuff that may cause discomfort
Oh Gawd, there's always one. Did you have to use smelling salts at the sight of a working class skivvy with a face full of boot polish? Perhaps you could have rung the 0800 helpline for absurdly sanctimonious snowflakes.
How did you know Hilda was racist before this? For you to enter into viewing these episodes without the knowledge that those days are like day and night compared to nowadays actually leaves you looking at best naive and at worst ridiculous.
Rewatched these episodes as 1977 is a better place to be than 2021.
Your sure telling me ' thing is I didn 't appreciate the time back then ' wish I had now.
For sure. I have stopped watching it now
I was 10 in 1977,happy times
Totally agree ❤
By far. 2023 getting even worse.

Jean is in days of summer wine she runs the antique shop ❤😊
She was brilliant in corrie. Best character ever.
@@jstewart3517do you mean last of the summer wine x
Oh, the memories, the characters, the strories and Boxing Day with the Oggies. Could we possibly ask for more? Cheers chuck for the upload!

Hilda, Stan and Eddie should have had their own spin-off show.
Love it proper cornation street not that rubbish whats on now 💯💯💯

I loved the community centre line up ! Hilda , Eddie , Ivy & Rita were fab. Oh & Bet ha ha.
Oooh hilda your name haunts me to this day with my last name being ogden but very proud now to habe that nickname ❤
When the Old Guy in the Audience Shouts out to Mavis Show us your Knickers Lol 😂🤣

Good to see Len finally getting what was coming to him
Magic. Thank you.
Rita gossiping and mixing it, once again screws it up for Mavis. Rita and Len are a horrible couple, always considered themselves a cut above.
Poison.
Can't stand the two of them, an arrogant, ignorant couple.
I met rita once talk about snooty she forgets us viewers keep her in work
the best times off are lives love and light to all ❤😂
I'll enjoy this, thankyou so much!
Ivy was a good singer
Except when she went on gmtv in the 90s but she was drunk lol
She started her career as a singer.
Ivy was a better entertainer than Rita.
Albert Tatlock was very comical in the last episode. Sneaking past Emily Bishop in the shop with the turkey under his coat had me literally laughing out loud!
Sadly Emily 's life was about to be turned upside down ' this was just before Ernie was killed in the robbery.
I just love Albert to bits!
Good old Albert ' he really was a legend.
Albert is too funny! Crafty and grumpy but he's hilarious!

I find Ivy’s singing more bearable than Rita’s! 😂
The christmas party reminded me of ones i had at work. Much better times than today

Love those old fashion booze ups. Len really worked that punch.
He gets him back in the next episode ' in the Rovers ' then they both get a grilling from Mrs Walker.
Ivy sings a lot better than bit hype Rita

Corrie at its best
I had a crush on Rita Fairclough in the 70s.
It didn't take a lot to make Hilda smile.
Classic one liners from Rita Fairclough 😂
Bet learnt the fundamental skill of skiving from Mrs Walker.
Not a big fan of Fred G, but It was good to see Len laid out 😃
Yep was thinking the same, old loud mouthed Len had been throwing his weight around for year's
That washing has been washed twice (thrice?) , ironed, washed again then stuff in a bin bag.
Hilda - eco warrior!
Good old Fred Face, Len's been asking for a good crack for a long time!
Old fogies slow clapping Mave the rave...hilarious
The 2 missing episodes this month, the 5th & 12th, are currently available on YT ;-).
Who’s idea was it to have the dartboard in front of the cellar door!?
It's not just the cellar door... It's the gents!
And also, if you study the layout of the buildings, that gents door opens right in to Albert Tatlock's kitchen.
Which goes a long way to explain why he was a grumpy old goat!
@@TheMeeja You’re quite right. The layout of the building doesn’t provide enough space for the gents or a flight of steps down the cellar.
@@TheMeeja Not to mention the function room on Rosamund Street!
There was a very believable chemistry between Barbara Knox and Peter Adamson

A young Rita reminds me of Maureen O’Hara.

It's nice how Grenada let the actors and actresses show off their other talents, bar Rita, I am sorry but she can't sing 🤣
