    I'm working my way through your videos on this car. It looks great! I recently got a 1985 380SL that's been in my family since 1987. It needs loads of little things, but it's almost road worthy-ish. Thanks for the great videos!

I have found that the original MB service manuals are very well written and are extremely informative in the diagnosis and repair on these great cars!     Another great video. Thanks. Am starting to gather parts to do the job on my 1980 450 SL. What is the part number on the Air vacuum tubes?

      Thanks! Your 1980 450 sl is different than my 1982 380sl. The fuel injection system changed when they went to the 116 engine that I have. My reference source is Benzworld.org. Log in and go to the R/C 107 SL/SLC forum. Once there, go to the Encyclopedia Germanica Volume 107. Then find Model107 Maintenance Manual Index. Click on it and then click on the M117 4.5L tab and you will find the actual MB service manuals. Look under fuel delivery section and compare what you have to the diagrams. Pelican parts has a great selection and so does AutohausAZ. RMEuropean also has a great selection. What I like to do is take off the air cleaner, and identify your components. If they are original MB parts, they have a part number on them and I write down and check all part numbers in the parts stores online. The rubber hoses that come and go to the idle control valve, the rubber hoses that connect the air cleaner to the valve cover, all need to be checked. They should be rubbery and pliable. When they get old, they get dry and hard and crack, leading to vacuum leaks. Take your time, take lots of pictures to help with reassembly. Have fun!

      No. I looked down into the engine and nothing there. No weird noises. Clean as can be! I wondered why they only replaced one guide when they replaced the heads. These are the original camshafts also. I have a theory. The passenger side had the original guide and the original tensioner guide. Driver side newer guide ( broken ) and the guide closer to the fender original. I think they replaced the heads and were putting the new guide on the driver side and broke it. Then they got worried and just put the old ones in and put the valve cover on and called it a day. If the broken guide fell deep into the engine , where would it go? Into the oil pan?? I changed oil and filter and found nothing in the oil or the filter element. It’s a mystery! I really enjoy your videos. You have taught me a lot!

      @@JRBRestorations it will wind up in the oil pan. When these break while engine is running then they get hang up in the chain, which will grind them into small plastic pieces which wind up in the oil strainer and can reduce oil flow into oil pump

      @@JRBRestorations the inner guide of the left cylinder head break first when chain is stretched. When this guide completely breaks off then the chain can jump one tooth on the left camshaft sprocket retarding this camshaft by 18 degree crankshaft angle which will result in one piston banging into one or two valves on that side before engine dies out. Pretty expensive repair

      This had to have happened a long time ago. I had great oil pressure when I was driving it after the long sitting time. The car was driven from West Virginia to NE Louisiana by the previous owner in 2017. He died a week after he got home . The car sat from 2017 to 2021 without being driven. It was carried to a repair shop and they drained the fuel tank. They put on a new fuel pump, fuel filter, oil and filter change, coolant flush and a transmission filter and flush. The owner of the shop drove it a week and then it wouldn’t start. He played around too much with the mixture control screw and gave up on it. It sat outside for 2 years and he was going to junk it. I bought it for $600 and have started my adventure. I found a lot of thing’s wrong, but I had it running reliably earlier this summer, until the coolant leaks. I have thoroughly enjoyed my project and it has really turned out well. I just wanted to catch up on maintenance issues and I really hope that this is all the bad things that I have found. I figure about 2 more weeks till I will be ready to start it. I want to fix some vacuum control switches on the interior climate control also. I love my Benzes. Thanks for the replies.

      @@JRBRestorations have you checked the timing marks on both camshaft’s in reference to tdc mark on balancer and distributor? I can’t recall you doing it in the video?
