  • This is the track that was deleted from reissues of Joy Division's 1981 album Still. Recorded at Birmingham University, it was a problematic gig, Ceremony was famously ruined due to poor live mixing, and the whole concert didn't sound perfectly clear. Twenty Four Hours was on some of the vinyl issues, but it never appeared on any CD issues due to time constraints.

    Stephen Morris was an exceptional drummer.

    Though I adore Martin Hannet's studio productions, Joy Division live was first and foremost a pile driving rock band. I still have this record-never knew that this song was left off the cd reissue.

      So true. Still was my first JD LP I bought as a teen. I prefer all of the live versions to the studio tracks.

    I had this on tape that sadly snapped years ago.Got several copies of 24 hours but this is without doubt the best
    Cheers for posting one of the finest live performances ever
    Now that I've realised how it's all gone wrong

    Bought the original 2LP back in the mid-80's, this was the "unlisted" last song on Side 3. Criminal that it is not on any of the CD versions. Thanks for posting!

    This was recorded just 16 days before Ian Curtis killed himself.

    How could you possibly leave this off...?

      The time limit on an audio CD is 80 minutes. Something had to be cut to make a 'one CD' release. What they should have done is release the collection on two CDs, like the original gatefold vinyl. I had the cloth/ribbon-bound version in my youth. How I lost it I cannot remember! This was the album that really turned me on to Joy Division, and somewhere in my head I still consider the live versions on Still to be the originals. I.C. R.I.P.

      @@simonwhitelegg8489 if that's the correct reason, it might have been better if 'SIster Ray' had been left off the CD instead of 24h

      @@UKAlanR Absolutely. In all the tapes I made of Still at the time, Sister Ray was left off. Even on the mp3 version I have on my phone, it's gone.

    Not that people would have noticed when listening to the CD alone, but too bad this was omitted from the list (in favour of some other, far more inferior live versions on "Still"), as this truly is the sole greatest moment from the live segment on that record. Just superb!

    • @xDkaratekat

      They removed it because he died a few weeks later and you can hear it in this that he planned to

    • @UKAlanR
      @UKAlanR 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@xDkaratekat that's a very flawed suggestion. The 'Still' LP was released nearest to IC's death, with this track present - the CD came quite a while later. So how can you suggest that an event in '80 was not reflected in this track being left off the album, but it was left off the CD?

    I had this on a limited edition boxed cassette of Still. Shame it has still never been officially released on CD.
