I used to make the Angel from Readers Digest with my Grandma when I was a kid....50+ years ago. After we folded all the pages, my Grandpa would spray paint it gold. We made one every year for years. This brought back great memories...thank you Elaine for this DIY. Love them both. Going to try making the tree because I have everything on hand.
I love that Lois! I'm so happy to bring back fond memories of your childhood for you! How cool to spray them gold....awesome! Thank you for watching!! Have a remarkable day!!!
Wow! We made these out of Reader's Digest when I was a little girl. My grandmother had a collection of Reader's Digest going back to when they first started the publication. I was a voracious reader and when we spent several weeks with her and my grandfather during the summer, I would read them. She showed us how to make these. We also made Santa and Mrs Claus using them. We just made the first fold on the page so they were quite "fluffy". She spray painted those red and the Angels gold. I don't remember what we used for faces and hands but they were so cute! Thank you for bringing back those awesome memories!!
I'm so happy that these are so nostalgic for you and so many others Mary! That seems to make the project that much more special!! Thank you for watching!! Have a glorious day!!!
❤️ the Christmas tree. My husband passed away 2 years ago. We was together 28 years. I have few of his books. This give me the idea to make my 2 kids this for a keepsake for years to come. Thanks for sharing.
I am so sorry for your loss!!! It is difficult to lose the love of your life. I was thinking, if the are hardback books, carefully remove the cover, cutting the front and back from the spine. Glue the front and back together so you can see the outsides. Then glue the spine to the edge where you removed it, creating a little lip above the level of the cover, if that makes sense. Use it to stand your angel or tree on. I would seal the cover and spine with a clear glossy sealant
Awww Simone, I love that idea. I'm so sorry for your loss. What a wonderful way to keep his memory alive! Thank you for watching and for such a beautiful idea! Have a glorious day!!
I'm about ready to cry. These are so beautiful and I, too, remember making these but not with phone books but with the Sears & Roebuck Christmas catalogs lol! I guess I am dating myself. Anyhow, for those of you cringing about destroying a book, use a hardback book. Carefully cut away the spine from the cover. Glue the front and back covers together so you can see the outside. Glue the spine to the side of that, it will create a little lip. Then set your Christmas tree or angel on the stand on top of that. I would seal the cover with a clear glossy seal so it can be cleaned. Gosh, Elaine, I gotta get in gear with my grandsons!!!!
What a great idea Teresa! Thank you for watching and for sharing that with us!! Have fun crafting with the grandsons...you're making wonderful memories for them!!!
@@ElainePetrakisMidnightCrafter thank you! I absolutely love your public personality! I certainly hope they will always have wonderful memories of me to tell their children as my daughter tells them about my mom!!
I so love the Angel. Thanks for explaining how to make these projects so I can understand. Some diyers don't explain well enough for me to understand. It makes it hard to make those kind of projects.
Don't you love how craft projects come back around?! Kinda like fashion (only I hope the shoulder pads don't!) lol Glad it brought back fond memories!! Have an outstanding day!!!
Isn't that always the way it goes Jacquelyn? These are easy and are good to do when you're just sitting watching TV or hanging out. Glad you like them! Happy crafting!!
Looking at your beautiful crafts gives me hope that world is still a beautiful place. And yes I definitely will try these two crafts for my tiny home this season💯❤️. Thank you for sharing your time with us!
We did this in the 1960's using Readers Digest and thick magazines. I made one 10 years ago out of a real thick magazine. It turned out so pretty that it is now in a box stored with my Christmas decorations. I am an avid reader and cringed, but that ok to use a book that you purchased for this propose. Thanks for sharing
I'd love to see a pic of the one you made as a kidEva! Please post a pic in the Facebook group and share it!!! Sorry to make you cringe but it's better than the book going through a shredder for recycling I guess....at least that makes me feel better! Thank you for watching!! Have a joyous day!!!
Fantastic DIYs! Wow, someone made 58 of the previous DIY you made? She must have the patience of a lamb lol. I remember the birdcage one and, being a bird lover, it was something that I had intended to make. It's still on my to-do list. LOL. These 2 seem easier than that. So someone can easily make 100s of them. The angel holding a hymn book is so divine. TFS hugs~ Josie 🤗❄⛄
You're so awesome Josie! Thank you for your support!! I know how hard it can be to do our own TH-cam projects and then try and find time for the rest of them that are just for fun. I'm so glad you like these and thank you for watching my friend!! Have a superb day!!!
Thank you I have access to books I can use to make an angel 😇 and a Christmas 🎄. You have made 2 beautiful Christmas icons. I hope mine turns out this good.

I'm so happy you're finally going to go for it and try it! It's really not hard at all as long as you don't fold too close to the spine of the book. You're going to love this one Star!! Thank you for watching!! Have fun and Happy crafting!!!
I remember these. Thanks for reminding me. I think it was someone’s mom who did this craft at school with us,, but I can’t imagine any teacher being happy to see us destroy any books, though I do like that you said it gets to live on in another form. So cute. Have a great holiday crafting, and I liked this video, saved it and subscribed.

I made an angel out an old Harry potter book that the library had discarded only difference with my angel is that I made her wings out of the first 25 to 30 pages on either side of the book and the other 700 pages was her skirt then I had a ceramic angel head and I used a doily around the book for her arms and decorated it with roses and I didn’t take off the Front or back cover I love your idea of the Christmas tree it’s something that you could actually keep up all year for your forever tree your angel is very gorgeous also TFS
Elaine Petrakis Midnight Crafter Yes I do still have it when I craft I most generally make one thing and then I keep it for myself but if someone wants something that I have made I will either make them one or give what I have made to them I like being a giver also thank you
Hello Elaine hope y'all are doing well. Beautiful projects definitely going to be making these thank you for sharing this with us. Much love and big Tx hugs from South Tx.
Very sweet. Would be beautiful to do a whole vignette with a book page angels and trees and a book page wreath on the wall. I think they would be very elegant with mercury glass small balls scattered on the table top. I really like mercury glass and book page items together
Beautiful! I may have to try this with my son. I think he would like this!! Never seen this done before. Very neat and not very expensive 😀 thanks for sharing. Have a good day!
I'm looking for some fresh ideas for three shelves in my high school English classroom library that I decorate seasonally. This would be great for one! I might even use a hymn book! I received several from a church that was replacing theirs.
Hello Elaine, from another Elaine, I am so pleased I found this tutorial, you explain everything so well, fingers crossed I have found a good use for my Conan the Barbarian book ,I am in England and have subscribed to your channel.Thank you for sharing these lovely projects.
Yay!! Welcome to the Glue Dot family Elaine!! I'm so excited that you've joined us and hope you'll love the DIY's on my channel! Thank you so much for watching, subscribing and for the lovely compliments!!
I absolutely love this idea! I've always loved Angels and found myself making angel crafts as a kid, however, I don't ever remember seeing something like this. My family passed away and recently, a best friend and I think this is a sweet, beautiful way to pay tribute to them and include a part of them in my home decor. Perhaps, even find a way to make a few that are not soley for the holidays. I was thinking to maybe try and find their favorite books or music pages of their favorite song or a song that reminds me of each person and use that as an extra personal touch that only the crafter really knows that special secret. 😊 I also was thinking, if you use those tiny little pocket sized books or field guides you can make tiny, "pocket angels" and turn them into ornaments. These would be especially nice as memorial ornaments for those who have lost a child too. I don't mean to be a downer to anyone, I just wanted to share this, as I think it's a beautiful, happy memorial project you could keep close even year round or make the little ones to give to someone who's lost a loved one and they could hang it anywhere (car rearview mirror, Xmas tree, cabinet handles, windows etc.) Just an idea..Oh, and if anyone makes big bucks off of "pocket angels" I want royalties 🤣 Seriously though, your ideas are great and I love your channel, now I'm off to check out this birdcage I keep reading you made because my bathroom is all birds 😊 Thanks for sharing and giving me the inspiration to honor my loved ones in new special way ♥️
I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm sure it was incredibly difficult. I love your ideas of different ways to make them to remember each person. I may have to try the mini ones as ornaments.....love that idea!!! Thank you for the great ideas and for watching!!! Have a blessed day!!!

They are both beautiful!
Thank you Cathlene! Have a gorgeous day!!!
Wow Glenda! Sounds amazing and majestic!! Do you still have it?
Elaine Petrakis Midnight Crafter Yes I do still have it when I craft I most generally make one thing and then I keep it for myself but if someone wants something that I have made I will either make them one or give what I have made to them I like being a giver also thank you
Hello Elaine hope y'all are doing well. Beautiful projects definitely going to be making these thank you for sharing this with us. Much love and big Tx hugs from South Tx.

Beautiful love your creativity.
Thank you Susan! Have a perfect day!!!
Very sweet. Would be beautiful to do a whole vignette with a book page angels and trees and a book page wreath on the wall. I think they would be very elegant with mercury glass small balls scattered on the table top. I really like mercury glass and book page items together
Sounds gorgeous Melba! I'd love to see some pics if you do!!

I'm looking for some fresh ideas for three shelves in my high school English classroom library that I decorate seasonally. This would be great for one! I might even use a hymn book! I received several from a church that was replacing theirs.

Have a wonderful day!!!
@@ElainePetrakisMidnightCrafter thank you for your kind words and yes, it's been extremely difficult..but thank you again for the smile and I'm glad you like the idea of the little ones ..if you make any, you maybe could make a video too I know people would love to see you make them, I know I would😊♥️
