I've never even seen these trees. How lovely! It's Jan 2023 now. This is when I plan arts and crafts activities for the year. We have a cute little retirement cottage with no room for arts and crafts. I gather all my activities and do them on my shaded patio in spring and summer. I'll soon be making a trip to Salvation Army and pick up some books for trees!

This brought back memories from my childhood of making book trees out of Reader’s Digests and painting them. We also glued macaroni on them and my mom spray painted the trees.

Oh my gosh, Linda! You just took me back about 40 years! When I was in 3rd grade we used Readers Digests to make Christmas trees and angels! After folding the pages, our teacher sprayed them (I don't think she trusted 3rd graders with this part) the colors that we requested. My mom saved my sister's and my projects for years and years. Thanks for sharing this idea; it brought back fond memories.

I went to a book folding class at my library about a year ago and made a piece that said JOY. I can't wait to pull that out for my Christmas decor. I also folded a Christmas tree, made a heart for my adult daughter for St. Valentine's Day, and a sailboat for my mom's birthday. These all had patterns found on Etsy. I am so glad I took advantage of that class since they can't have it this year. It really is a relaxing craft and a nice way to repurpose old books. Thank you for sharing 💗

I remember making poinsettia with the old punch cards (I forget what you call them) but mom would bring home a box of them and we would make wreaths and poinsettia flowers spray paint or she would have glue and glitter and let us have fun for the holidays. So much fun and memories. Thank you for reminding me of those memories

Great project. TYFS. If you have some heavy gauge floral wire you could make wreaths or smaller ornaments in any shape you desire and hot glue some cinnamon sticks or star anise around. You could also tie strips of fabric around the wire or wrap the wire with fabric or yarn. Thrift or recycle an old plaid shirt or sweater or use some ribbon you have.Stay safe and healthy everyone ❤️Happy Holidays

I have a Bathroom Book of Great Literature we have read and cannot donate (it was in the bathroom). So I will do what you did with this book (500+ pages). I started 3 days ago. I used scissors, pinking shears, a rotary cutter, and sandpaper. Not as leafy or as gorgeous as the two you made for sure! I went to bed at 5:20 am this morning and my floor is not carpet and is covered in the tiniest of scraps from the paper. I painted the sycamore balls with Craftsmart classic gilding, and I am going to hotglue the sycamore balls on the book. This morning, the day after Thanksgiving, I took a small magazine and did the same process with scissors (no rotary cutter, sandpaper or pinking shears!) and was finished in 30 minutes instead of days! I was not so proud of my 500+ page book. It felt like 1000 pages, and it does not look as beautiful as your books at all. Maybe I will make one more with 200 pages. . . .

Hi Linda, I started making a tree last night from a book of about 128 pages. I had no problems with the first two steps of folding and trimming the tabs at the bottom, and cutting off the page folds, but I can't get the tree to fluff up like yours. I was quite rough with it (maybe the paper in mine is a bit stiffer?) and at the end sprayed it with water. It has since dried and looks the same. It looks ok but I'm wondering if maybe you made the cuts you made to the pages were a bit differently? Is there a way you could post either a short video or just a series of photos showing how you cut those pages? You could just use a folded piece of paper instead of making another tree. I am going to teach this project to a group of middle school Girl Scouts this weekend and want my protype to be perfect. Plus, I just want a beautiful tree for myself!
