@@seraphimvalkyrin4543 Actually, EVA-01 is the only ''female'' Evangelion as far as I know. And that's only because IT has Yui Ikari's soul....I dunno...absorbed(?) during an activation test. All other Evangelions (EVA-00 and the Units 02-04 as well as the mass produced EVA-Units 05-13 from the anime and almost all units shown in the new movies. Not quite sure about the new EVA-13, though) are male, according to EvaWiki.

Yes shins are a focal point in the story, from the main character's first name Shin-ji to the title of the anime itself Shin-seiki Evangelion. It makes perfect sense to include shin-centric components. It's one of the few things that does make sense in NGE.
I can imagine Misato suggesting installing the shin armor with the excuse of "Ya never know if there's an Angel that likes kicking shins."

Since you were struggling a bit with that part, Evas are very much mechas, they have "biomech" in their full designation _somewhere_ along all the other stuff
And the sword is called Magorox/Magorox Exterminator in the few translated appearances it had, but there's no way you can know that without having dug really deep
Their full, "official" in-world designation(AS FAR AS I KNOW, SO DON'T FLAME ME IF I'M WRONG) is "Ultimate Multi-Purpose Weapon System in Human Form EVANGELION" / "Ultimate Humanoid Multi-Purpose Weapon System EVANGELION".
While it is technically from a mecha-anime, I believe it's said in-lore to be basically just a big-ass, artificially created quasi-god in restraint-armor as they DO actually bleed when injured and technically don't actually need the armor to function.
This is only what I personally could piece together from this fustercluck of a lore collection that is the world of Neon Genesis Evangelion, tho.

You forgot to mention how the shoulder armor for the Eva can also be aligned into the arm locks, as if to imply a more secure restraint. If you've watched the anime, that's a detail that was included with this display base.

Well, what about the Metal Build Lancelot Albion figure? I'm just desperate to see Mecha review the best figure of the ultimate Knightmare Frame from Code Geass R2 when it comes out, besides EVA Unit 02 already has a Metal Build figure that he should check out.

the kotobukiya kit is quite good for the fraction of the price.
It is pricy. If you got it for retail, it’s already worth almost double. Pretty good investment imo. Don’t plan on selling mine anytime soon though

I have all evas in metallic color, all posing nicely with their guns in my room, I love them. The instant I saw this figure i fell in love, but I wasnt sure about buying it because it is quite expensive. Watching this video convinced me. I just placed the order and its arriving next week. This has got the be the single most awesome figure I have ever seen.
all metal build are focusing on details, that was a reason why they added a lot of things we never seen or needed, just added for adding... so more armors meant more details, and also meant more colors needed to match... the shin guard just to match with the eye patch, the new weapons' carrier...

Awesome review! This figure is so cool
I think this more resembles the Super Evangelion (S.EVA) since the details are pretty close to said version, even with the addition of the shin guards and the solid goggles as opposed to the translucent visor of the original units. That technically means that this is a HE since the S.EVA is the EVA unit 1 merged with the body and soul of Shinji

It's worth mentioning the swords that were designed but never used did show up in other toys/artwork, and these are also 'revised' in their design for this figure, mostly with the skeletonization of the sheaths and added embellishments.
So excited because I just copped this for $300 AUD (shipping included) in "pre-owned" condition which literally just meant it's been opened

I wouldn't want to see this in a live-action movie, but this metal build is something I wish to have in my museum collection. Yes it is the best.
When "shackled" to the display base, you can also slot the shoulder pylons into those upper segments of the display base with the black and red caution stripes for even more stability.

Pretty sure your shin is what hits something when kicking. So of course, in a realistic sense, the less armor added, while maintaining vital protection, the less cost to design.

While I very much prefer the original, more simple and basic Eva design, I will not deny this figure is incredible. This is basically what the Evas would look like in a live action film.
Speaking of which, does anyone remember the Evangelion figures made for the Soul of Chogokin line (the larger newer ones, with the removable armor)? They also released a figure, the "Super-Evangelion", and its design was actually similar to this figure.

To be fair the SH Monsterarts Kiryu would still be hard to top. The only thing the differentiates those from a Metal Build is some more metal in the joints. The Tokyo SOS Heavyarms version is about as close as you could get to a “shooting miniature”
@@andrewtaylor940 true but they would stylize him a bit like Eva 1 or they could use unused concept art for Kiryu. Plus seeing the amount of stuff that comes with these figures kinda blow the SHMA and one out of the water.
@@brandonshackelford3511 Actually there is an EVA stylized Mechagodzilla Gokin. Sen-Ti-Nel put it out just before Shin Godzilla to reflect Hideaki Anno making both Evangelion and Sin Godzilla. I want to say there were three repaints of it. Mecha G silver, EVA01 colors and I think EVA02? It was a very lanky mecha G. Great review, at first I was wondering why my 15" Medicom EVA-01 was missing detail when I was sure it was pretty true to the anime. Then it dawned on me this was a re-imagined version and you confirmed that. I really like this version but still think I prefer the Medicom RAH. The joints in this version whilst they look great make it look like a robot or mecha, but as you know it's meant to be a living creature inside a suit with armour plates on it so this doesn't feel faithful to that even though I think you mentioned the original artist was involved in creating this? Anyway, I think you summed it up best when you said this is what it would look like if it were real, so sans the creature inside. Now if only I could get a docking accessory like this metal version has for my Medicom RAH!
Which one do you recommend
I’ve been thinking of getting the RAH because I love accuracy and size but I also plan on collecting them and the prices for the rest of the units are crazy
As for the metal builds the prices are stupid as well but not crazy stupid. Plus I love diecast
I also fear that the RAH is fragile and could break easily . Also the rubber scares me
This is one of my favorite best Evangelion Unit ever, I really like that design and the diecast parts are awesome and she looks badass, but unfortunately... I don't think I probably can't find it anytime soon and I'm not sure where to get it 😔
Thanks for showing how to remove the small bits at the bottom of the base. I keep thinking its a poke up from the bottom and pop up from the top. Hahaha. Didnt expect it to be a pluck out. No wonder i keep seeing the manual and didnt get it. Hahahahaha

This looks and feels more than a figure, it also looks and feels like a prototype or concept figure for something like the Final Encarnation of Shinji's EVA-01 for Evangelion 3.0+1.0 (the strongest EVA unit ever, even more than Unit 13 (3.0 with the human looking angel Kaworu Nagisa)), possibly something like EVA 01 Omega (don't have the greek letter, srry), I have that in my imagination.
P.D: Don't know if you've ever reviewed Gurren Lagann Gunmen or Code Geass Knightmare Frames, if not, I recommend those that attract you the most.
Will Eva 01 appear in 3.0+1.0? iirc it's the one powering the AAA wunder right?

I personally like classic design like in PG (or MG) form. It looks more biomechanical for me
The reason it has the shin armor is of course because of the fact that after eva 2 got torn apart from every single part of its body (including the most important part being her shins) eva 1 wants to protect her most beutiful part( which is the shins) against the bird demons.
