Pharrell is an idol. A genius in music, entertainment and business, an intelligent personality and a good soul.

nigga kanye had a bright face the whole time pharrell was talkin. first time seeing him that way since he's always portrayed as an angry indivisual
he loves to learn and enjoys learning from brilliant people. This is him at his best. The media hates Black Excellence and he plays into that because it keeps his name buzzing (all pop stars do that). But he's actually incredibly humble and gracious. Most people who actually know him or have actually at least had a real conversation with him will say that.

I have. I met him, Common, Umar from Last Poets, and Dead Prez in NY back in 03. I got to sit in on their session and pick their brains. I was 15 at the time. That guy is brilliant. And he was humble. In fact, that was his biggest advice to me: to always be learning and growing and never get top big to get better. I'll never forget it and if I ever get the chance to build with him again in the future I'm gonna soak in all I can.

Pharrell is just speaking a very open way, avoiding a selfism outlook on his creations, realizing that his artistic prowess is the result of long observation over many different styles and 'functions' of 'colors'

Kanye definitely looks up to Pharrell more. Shit, he's publicly stated he does. He even rapped over Neptunes beats before College Dropout came out, shouted him out in songs, rapped on his album, collaborated with the Neptunes on Watch The Throne, performed live at Pharrell's show... He also rocked clothes (BBC/Ice Cream) that Pharrell designed back in the day, and collaborated with the same fashion designers as Pharrell (e.g. Nigo). Kanye even stated that his sound is "part Neptunes". All that shit about hype, fuck hype. It's not a great indicator of artistry. Kanye and Pharrell are both great regardless, and are on the same level.

I could be wrong, but I think P was saying that he was taught that color not only pleases and displeases the eye, but also has a profound power over the mind. Essentially, what one does with color can enlighten, manipulate, provoke and heal. That is powerful.
