    I have exactly the same 1994 900 SS SP I bought 24 years ago! I’m still riding it! Very nice to see yours still in good condition!

      Thanks! My new issue is that my trickle chargers seem to be boiling all the acid out of my battery. It is always something with these bikes, LOL. Thanks so much for taking the time to view the video.

      I've changed to GEL BATTERY(MAXIMA MB16AL-X2(G)) six month ago. It seems working fine.

    I have recently acquired a near mint '93 with just 4k miles. I learned from your review. Thanks so much.

    Hey, Chris, I stumbled onto your upload today and I'm glad I did! Great, objective review of this Ducati classic! I had a '93 SP that I sold four years ago only to obtain a '99 996 that I was lusting after, but I will own another 900SS one day, trust me. The 900SS is just the Labrador Retriever of Ducatis, being unintimidating, while also doing everything well and at the same time having that same soul, character and - importantly - SOUND that you often get and that was frequently associated with Ducati's resurgence in the '90s. I had the issue with the breaking cylinder studs that some owners experienced, but otherwise was very happy with my SS. I'm impressed that you did your own work on your bike, and believe you should be satisfied with the outcome of the your cosmetic and mechanical results; yours is a beauty! My only suggestion is that you look into a Corbin seat online; those stock saddles were like wooden planks! And maaaaybe some carbon silencers through which your baby can exhale. Otherwise, nice work! I'm glad you posted this video. Cheers from Atlanta!

      Thanks so much Edward!!! I actually have a spare Corbin seat, but it is a bit too wide, so I have trouble touching the ground, LOL. I hope you are enjoying your 996. They are so awesome! Thanks again for taking the time to view the video.

    have a '95 ss sp. Think you might of missed the showa suspension, sound dampers in the fairing, under slung floating rear brake caliper and remote front brake reservoir as other differences to the standard 900ss. Had to rebuild my carbs maybe twice to get it running reliably. It doesn't have a lot of poke but it is a lot of fun to ride and have had my local bike shop tell me that my sp is "their" future bike (when I sell it to them, apparently). BTW, loved the fact that you shot up the road in your shorts and T-shirt. Who the f' hasn't worked out you don't ride seriously like that? :-)

    Hi Chris, I added up I think 715 in Ian’s book. It’s always been confusing. Total SP production was around 1700 for 1994-1997. It was a North American Market only bike, everyone else received SL’s from 1992-1997 and we all got the FE. Only the original MK1 900SL came with the Marvic wheels.

      I have his book as well, but it was so confusing! And I know you are a total expert on these, so I will take your number.

      Thank you Chris, keep me in mind if you ever sell the 911. I have wanted one for ages. I worked on them prior to Ducati’s. I always remind you, that I love that car. An air cooled 911 and air cooled 900SS have many things in common. What a lovely collection you have.

    Chris I hope she was warmed up before that little ride. Those Desmo motors take a bit for oil to reach the top. very nice bike !

    Cagiva was the Castiglioni brothers solution when they tried and failed to buy the original MV Agusta, they found another way to get the name they so desperatly wanted.

    I have a '95 SSSP. To fix the swingarm issue I installed one from a later 1000DS. It's much beefier and looks better to boot! Did you mean to say you have Mikuni flat-slides, or Keihin? The standard factory carb was a Mikuni, but they weren't flat slides. The Keihin flat slides work great, but they do have the reputation for the float valves sticking open. It happened to me, and filled the oil sump with fuel. Instead of a secondary manual fuel cutoff, I installed an electric solenoid valve, so it opens automatically when you turn the ignition on.

    • @CCM911
      @CCM911  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The FCR flat sides are Kehein, correct? And yep, my sump filled as well. I was actually able to repair the needle valves with the cars in-situ. I like your idea of the solenoid. Was it difficult to wire and install? Thanks so much for watching.

      @@CCM911 No, not at all. I just tapped into a coil primary lead for power (it draws very little current), and mounted the valve itself underneath the rear-most bit of the airbox. It's held in place with a cushion clamp bolted to...what I don't remember. It was five years ago now...
