    Even when the this blade fits in the sheath both ways I've never seen anyone carry their knife so that curve of the blade and sheath wouldn't match. (the wrong way! 😄)
    Unless the video is taken on selfie/mirror mode (which i doubt because of the latter knife), the sheath looks like left handed (carried on the right) to me. Where most southeners tend to carry their knives on the right most reindeer herders carry theirs on the left hip. I've always also found that cross draw more natural.

      Yes it definitely seems the wrong way around for me. I thought it was a leftie. Didn't know about the cross drawing, to be honest not something that had occurred to me. Thanks for the info Sampo, and thanks for stopping by.
      Have a fantastic weekend mate.

    I own one of those souvenir 'Reindeer Puukko' knives that my father brought back from a trip to Helsinki about 50 years ago. It has a very slim blade ( 11mm wide, 2.2m thick, 100mm long). The handle is reindeer bone ( I assume) and bears a stylized reindeer head. The knob is there, but not as pronounced as on the one you showed.
    When I was a boy, I used that knife a lot! But now it is a treasure and lives in a special box ... I use a White River Exodus 3 (aka Exodus Knife & Tool: AdventureCraft) instead. Perfect low profile EDC fixed blade!
    Thanks for bringing up good memories!

      Thanks for watching mate, I have one older one too. No idea where it is though. It's actually a really nice knife with an excellent blade.

    Hi Tim 😁, nice puuko's, alot of work must go into the raindeer knife, are the metali, oye blades good quality ?. Uni was quiet today, too busy munching I expect, lol. Thanks for another interesting video mate, hope your doing ok, stay safe, best wishe's to all, Stuart Uk.

      @KuukkeliBushcraft  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You mean the Laurin metalli blades? You can buy the blade blanks for as little as 10 Euros here and for that price they are fenomenal. Thats why nearly all of the lower to mid price range knives made in Finland use Lauri blades. For example the terävä Jääkäripuukko is a Lauri blade. To mention one of the more well known ones.
      Thanks for watching Stuart. Have a fantastic weekend.

      They are pretty cool the old Saami knives. I wonder how long they have been making them like this. Probably a very long time.

      Really lovely tradition of lots of small knife manufacturers here in Finland. They make really nice stuff too.
      Thanks for watching mate. More puukko videos coming up.

    They look really lovely knives Tim bro ! They must have taken days of work to create !! I especially like the thick handles for extra grip with mittens. I think my favourite is the second one.. the reindeer knife ! What an awesome career to be a knife maker !! Thanks for explaining all about them mate !! However that first knife is really awesome as well !!
    'Kippis' to you and Unni 🐾🐾

      Thanks Andy, the antler knife certainly will have taken a lot of work. The Passo puukko is a little more mass produced. As in they make some knives every week.

    Lapland Red ale a fine exit. I love those traditional sheeths. Awesome knives to.

      Such a great tradition of blokes in sheds making knives in this country. So many small knife manufacturers. Beer however, I think in general my home country is about as good as it gets The red ale is nice. Finnish breweries trying to make porters nowadays, don't quite get it right😂. The price is definitely always wrong in this country for beer. The whole real ale fashion seems rather strange to me, it's what I have drunk all of my life, It's good here though as I don't have to drink larger all the time now I am in Finland (I absolutely wouldn't mind if I was in Belgium). The only American beer I have ever tried was Coors light, I hope the rest are better 😂.
      One day I will come to the states and try a few.
      Thanks for stopping by Travis.

      @@KuukkeliBushcraft I am no expert on American beers. But from what i've heard on a global scale, we're not too good at it. I think quantity is preferred over quality here. You will see guys get eighteen and thirty packs of coors light or bud light for their evening. I don't drink much these days. But if you ever make it to my area I will treat you to a pint at the best local brewery I can find. America certainly has a wealth of small beer makers that claim to be very high caliber.

    I owned very similar knife as the one with the fur in the sheath. Bought it in lapland in the 90s. Lost it somwhere..

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  ปีที่แล้ว

      I see a lot of them about on the second hand market. I presume they were a popular souvenir here in the past. The fur is a bit pointless but that doesn't affect the usability of the knife. Thanks for stopping by.

      Thank you, there are so many small manufacturers in Finland and so many people making knives as a hobby. Really is a fantastic part of the culture.

    Hey Tim, how goes it? I have quite a lot of these Sami Knives, some maybe as old as 150 years. I was told that the half sheaths with the 90 degree bend are Northern Sami and that the ones with the 45 degree (or thereabouts) are Southern Sami. My oldest Sami Leukus have a convex grind. I actually have a knife that is used for the etching (Kolerosing).

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  ปีที่แล้ว

      That makes sense Chris as all of the knives with the half sheaths I have seen round here are 90 degrees and a lot of the ones I see on the Internet aren't. I would be very interested to see what the Kolorosing knife looks like. I have a couple of weird Japanese knives that work well for that, not that I have very much time for such things 😂. You must have an amazing collection of knives and axes.
      Thanks for stopping by mate. Always good to hear from you.
