    This is therapy Tjommi, relaxing. I have st least 3 Norwegian knife brands in my collection and Helle is one of them. One traditionsl Scandinavian type of knife pnd one hunting knife i made myself buying a Helle blade. This and the large model just ticks the bones for me. Beautiful and look practical. Nice shooting Tjommi.

      It is crazy how stuff like this can relax the mind, like when I was editing this, the drops on the tarp just made me sleepy. Some of the earlier modells from Helle did not fit my hand very well. I was way more into Mora and Casström, but with their new models, everything has changed. Happy hunting Tjommi, make sure to capture some footage for us of it. Wish I could be there and see you all hunt. Cheers ☕️

    Good review. Helle makes great knives. I have a only few. Love the birch scales. Makes a very comfortable and working purchase for control. The full Scandi grid makes a very strong knife bland and the full length tang is great to have. Several American brands have a flat grind which is very good for slicing but so much for carving or chopping. The thickness is a good compromise. If it were any thicker it would try to rotate in the hand and pull chunks instead of slices. I carry a hatchet for the tough stuff anyway. Eying a folder. Like you a few hundred reside with me. Now with all those knives you should have an impressive drawer of spoons and other utensils. As far as the fish filleting, it takes a sharp knife to do that and that one truly is. A tidbit, I was in college about 19 years old before I had a boneless fish fillet. All the time growing up fish were out primary meat which we caught in local lakes and rivers. We fried them whole generally and picked the bones. When you are hungry you get pretty good at it. Good fishing my Nordic ADV and cutlery friend. Remember it's not a pry bar nor a wire cutter. All good from the hills of east Kentucky USA

    • @tshansen
      @tshansen  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I absolutely love the birch scales as well. It looks so much more in tune with what it is. A good outdoor knife. And like you say, it sits great in the hand and does not slip as bad as other materials. I have never been a huge fan of flat grinds, maybe because it is tradition with Scandinavian grind up here. But I will try it out on the new Nordlys that will come in the middle of October now. See and compare it to the regular one.
      Haha, I have spoons, figurines utensils all over the place. When I first start making wood stuff, I fall into deep relaxation and enjoy the process so much I forget time and space.
      I remember when we was kids as well, we fried fresh fish over an open fire and just ate that. Need to do more of this in the future 👏🏻 Great comment my friend. Thank you

    Very nice video. I must admit I'm somewhat intrigued by this knife. The Nord is slightly too large for my usage, this seems more of an allrounder. I'd love to see them release it with a carbon steel like Sleipner though. Perhaps something in the future?

    • @tshansen
      @tshansen  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      My experience as well, the Nord is great, but just a little bit too large for my liking when it comes to a multi purpose knife. This is where the Nordlys outshines and outperforms the Nord in my liking. You never know, there might be a sleipner variant, but I know that the flat grind version is coming first, maybe new steel next year? dependent on the success of the two this year?

    Technical question. How well does it hold its edge? The reason I ask is because I am TERRIBLE at sharpening knives... either that or I am fantastic at blunting knives. This means any utility knife I have needs to hold its edge well for a long as possible. My long term favourite is a KA-BAR short style. Mine was made in Japan and I have treated it very badly for years yet it continues to do its job perfectly.

    • @tshansen
      @tshansen  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ooooh... that is a good and really difficult question to answer. Because it is so much down to how you use it, how often you strop it, what you define as a good enough edge etc. But I would say that knifes like this, with this kind of grind angle holdes it edge really well... I have not sharpen mine yet, only stropped it once since I got it, and I have used it a lot. My best advice to get better at sharpening is to take a closer look at the Worksharp tools and the Ken Onion option.

      @@tshansen the fact that you have not yet sharpened it and it will still filet a fish and cut fruit and vegetables after being used as an axe and whittling knife says a lot. I have a simple sharpener from Whitby and co. It is foolproof. But give me a blunt knife and a sharpening stone and you'll get back.... a blunt knife and a sharpening stone. Give me a blunt chisel and a sharpening stone and I'll give you back a tool fit for the job.... I'm just rubbish at knives. I'll check out your recommendations.

    Cringed on that ferro rod. Check this new issue for chopping and hard use. The winter up north can be cold and hard. The new Nord Sleipner certainly matches it. We have substituted the stainless 3.7 steel blade on the regular Nord with a 4 mm Sleipner steel blade. The handle shape is the same revolutionizing combination of two grips - a front grip for finer details, and a back grip for chopping. But the added weight and blade thickness makes this version slightly more geared towards chopping and heavier use. This version also features white liners and a black sheath.

      Yeah, I have the original Nord, but the Sleipner steel is not that good for my use, because it rust so fast. Here close to the sea you spend more time maintaining the blade than using it. So I'm a huge fan of the Sandvik steel. The Nord is a good chopper, but like you said in the other post, I rather have a smaller knife, hatchet and a little folding saw with me than a big chopper.

      @@tshansenUnderstand that very well. The sea air ie horendous. In the 90+% humidity of east Kentucky it is difficult if not impossible to keep rust under control. I've lost several firearms to damage over the years. Gone a few months on assignment and it can get out of hand. Only a few microns and they are locked up and the finish damaged.

      Got Nordlys in ot will replace Utvear as it's too small for my hands. Grandson will get it for Christmas. He has great appreciation of knives. Genetics

    There are plenty of wonderful knives if money is no object. Your prices are just way too high. I wished they weren't cause I would love to have one of your knives.

      As long as the blade is not super steel, I think that most knife prices are fair. Imagine how much going into some of the makings of these knives. Some is hand made and spent hours on hours perfecting. It all depends on how you look at it I think.

      Well, we all have different needs and what we mostly use our knifes for. I do agree, a small axe or hatchet does a much better job making firewood, same can be said about a foldable saw. But not every time you have that with you, or you try to save weight. For me, there is not one tool that fits all, for me I bring tools that does the job, and if i only was allowed to bring one tool, it would be this knife over a lot of other tools. Cheers

    💫Great Video, but i do not understand why the Nordlys is more expensive than the bigger Nord Version?🫨hhhmmmmm not logic to me….but still a great fulltang knife!💪🏽

      Here in Norway the Nord is more expensive than Nordlys, as it should. If you go into Helle own site, you can also see that the Nord is more expensive 🙏🏻
