Thanks Barry, yeah I am a bit OCD with the video's. I start off with something simple and keep weaving more into it until it starts to become a monster in post production. I think you can get medication for it now!
Ooooh my. This is inspired - thank goodness Pam had the spare oak. Beech was important too mind - it does control and encapsulate the power of all the other magical woods! Awesome make and video! 🌲🦊🌲🤗

Chapeau! A miraculously peace of wood(s) ... this wand might have the power to send us to sweet and calmly dreams .. and it hopefully will work for the peace on earth Thank you for being a part of your audience. Kind regards from Zweckel/Germany Stephan & Rudolf
From start to finish one word encompasses your videos " Brilliant ", pleasure to watch mate 👍👍👍, ps I didn't believe the teleporting part with Highland Woodworking 😳😳😳
Hi Stephen, my name is Stephen too... Just wanted to say amazing work you do love the wands, and mix of Star Trek at 2:37... ahh if only..... and Magic all in one, Just how I like it... Thank you so much for this and for sharing how to... Love it...!!! Just Magical... I have been making wood wands with my Dremel for years... gave most away but now trying new wands... *You guys must be wizards and witches... Love all this... and your narration...!!!! Also British, where I would love to go visit...!!!!
Hi Steve, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. If ever you are over this way you are more than welcome to come and have a play in the 8x6. all the best.
@@Stephens8x6Workshop Well Thank you so much for saying that, I just might do that, I think Once start using that lathe I wouldn't stop, again thank you for the kind offer and for responding to our comments and questions... Again, thank you...!!
Thanks Andy, I really got a kick out of how it came out. I see you have joined the Small Workshop Group. Hope you are going to enter some of the challenges. i'd love to see your interpretations :-)
This has to be one of my favourite video's, fantastically brilliant wand, lovely calming commentary, very interesting discription of the woods and the way you used them and the eye to finish it off ! This video has EVERYTHING !! The fact we wasn't deafened by horrible choice of really loud overpowering music was a massive bonus. Thankyou so much for sharing this wonderful project. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟💖
I must, once again, simply gush over your work! This is absolutely the best piece I have seen come from your shop. Some young witch or wizard is going to be very lucky to have this magical wand. And I do believe the faeriefolk are quite proud of it, as well.
HI Stephen! Excellent video, well worth the wait! I've been wondering about the eye since I first saw it in a trailer, fascinating process. Hope you win! Thanks for sharing, Gord
Hi Gord, glad you liked it. There is no prize, it was a 'just for fun' challenge but it's still good as it stretches you knowing you need to raise the standard.
The detail you put in the eye was absolutely amazing. When I first saw your wand I thought it was just a store-bought Eye you inserted I was quite pleased and surprised to see you took the time to make the eye, you're wand looks fantastic.
Wow very impressed, ive only just bought a second hand lathe, this gives me ideas as to what i might be able to do when ive kinda mastered the woodworking. need to buy tools next.
Hay Dave, glad you enjoyed the video. You are limited only by your imagination (or images you find on the web ha ha)! Beware, woodturning is addictive!
Nicky done. What an incredible wand. The dragons eye is a nice touch. Are you going to make some more wands in the future? And Iroko wand are commonly found in the hands of dark wizards. Be careful when using Iroko in wands, it can make other woods that are commonly used by good wizards become evil and dark. But when used properly an Iroko wand can be incredibly powerful.
Hi Stephen, although I am not into turning myself, after watching you with your small but nimble lathe I may seriously give it a go. What an excellent piece of work and the artwork on the eye and the end result was amazing. What an extremely talented young man you are sir. Hope you win. (when will you send me the fiver for saying about the win part).
Ha ha, thanks Walter. I don't have a fiver on me at the minute :-) Be careful with woodturning. It is very addictive and it's one very wonderful big and deep rabbit hole. thanks for the 'young man' compliment, now that is worth a fiver :-)
Marvelous! I agree with previous comments, great wand and the eye is simply wonderful. But now the important question, how do I get my hands on that wood transporter?!
Oh my goodness!! How GORGEOUS!! Thank you so much for your videos, you are so generous to share this knowledge. May I ask where would I find the little container encasing the dragons eye? Thank you thank you again!! Many blessings to you.
Ha ha, and you've only just noticed! Apparently it's a known fault and there is a fix for it but it does mean a lot of down time and I just can't afford that (he he). Thanks so much for watching :-)
Ha ha, if that was the best 20 mins of your day you must have had a lousy day! The transport app is called TransTab. It's not for general release yet, I'm just beta testing it. They want to get it accurate enough to transport living tissue first but that's going to take 64 gigaquads of memory so, according to Moore's Law, we are looking at a release date of 2027! I think I need to get out more!
Okay, have to agree with all the responses. This is an awesome video. My biggest question is about the dragon’s eye. Could you give a bit more detail? What is the piece you made it with? Source? I could see that as a nice feature for a box top or other wood projects.
Hi Patrick, thanks for watching. The eye is made from an 18mm glass cabochon and painted on the reverse with various shimmering nail varnishes. The cabochon is available from many crafting suppliers on Ebay along with shimmering nail varnishes in various colours if the good lady does not possess any that you can borrow.
Amazing video! Beautiful craftsmanship from start to finish. The segmented wand handle is a nice touch. The dragons eye on the back, is that inlayed into the wood or just adhered to the flat surface?
I didn't want to put a finish on the shaft of the wand so burnishing with shavings helps compact the grain that had been lifted during the scraping process. Also, the lignin will melt a bit and help produce a nice smooth finish. Warms your hands a little too ha ha. thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
@@Stephens8x6Workshop Thanks for answering! I've done it before but, just because I saw people doing it on the videos but never really knew what it was doing. :P
Luved the video. Hoping to make something similar for my son. Could you tell me the dimensions of the 4 pieces that went into the handle at glue-up and then at slicing into segments? Thanx & stay safe.
Sorry for the Delay Dennis. If I remember rightly he four segments for the handle were 14mm then the four glued together were cut into 3mm segments in order to glue up the spiral. Thanks for watching and taking the time to coment. Much appreciated.
Thanks for the compliment Robin, glad you liked the video. The eye is made from an 18mm glass cabochon I picked up from Uncle Ebay and painted on the reverse with various nail varnishes.
Be very careful with your wand Stephen, Dragon eyes can seriously do some damage combining them with all that wood can surly be dangerous. It came out great, love the storytelling. Just dont sneeze with it in your hand or there will be another hurricane in the Bahamas.
The eye totally set it off. I would be proud to have a wand made by u
Well Steven you don't do things by half and you have a lot of time for editing but you videos are second to none thanks for all your efforts

Thanks you Stephan. It would certainly be good if it had the power to bring peace. One day hopefully. Thanks for watching :-)
I knew you were a clever lad from the first video of yours that I watched, but you conned me - you are a wizard!😉

A stunning piece of craftsmanship Stephen and as always, a very entertaining video. Thank you.

I love the commentary on how you talked about the wood and also the dragon's eye that is so beautiful
Thanks for watching Charles, I do try to add a little bit extra to my video's.
Wow, I like all the wands made in this challenge, but yours I like the most. Well done, I love how you painted the dragon's eye
Thanks. It was great to see how each person interpreted the challenge and use their own skill set. Hope to do more challenges like this :-)
Well done Steve, the Dragons Eye is the cherry on top! Extremely creative as usual and finished to an excellent finish. Cheers Sean
