Do the strokes gained, example putting, move from course to course, field to field? lets say a course with faster, more undulating greens, would the 1.5 stoke baseline for putting be adjusted to...7 feet?

Great video. Curious is there any metrics for things like strokes gained that don’t include wild variance plays? Such as chip-ins and when golfers lose a ton of strokes (such as ATG) when there is a weird situation like a ball dug into a bunker or penalties or really weird lies?
I really hate looking at round data and you see something like T2G -1 but that’s because ATG is -4 because one hole went absolutely sideways. Hovland yesterday is a good example. He looked phenomenal for 17 holes and then quad bogey on 18. His overall statistics are completely skewed based on one crazy hole that isn’t indicative in any way of future performance.

So --- probably not. I have been thinking about doing something like "Olympic Scoring" and throw out each golfers best hole and worst hole in a round. That way if someone has a massive swing in either direction, that gets kicked out.
It wouldn't be easy and it's a ton of data but I think might remove some of those rare extremes.

@@RickRunGood Curious if you ever implemented this? It could skew the data if someone ends up playing 4 strokes from the exact same spot in the rough 20 yards out. Your platform looks fantastic. I'm still doing my due diligence but am 90% sure I will sign up.
I was also curious why they don't have different putting expected numbers depending on the amount of break the put has?

Interesting stuff - in SG approach you mix up feet and yards which was a bit confusing - from 26 feet from the bunker etc any stats comparing early and late starters- taking weather bias out?

Hey Rick - How can we used strokes gained data to bet matchups during the tournament? I think I've heard you say before that strokes gained putting is the most volatile stat so anyone with extreme strokes gained putting numbers, we could potentially target. Isn't it feasible for a guy to have a hot putter all weekend? Really enjoy all of your content. Thanks!

The naysayers just don't understand reversion to the mean. If you play enough golf, then you are going to hit shots in all sorts of conditions. Eventually it just becomes part of your strokes gained. I suppose if you play golf in perfect conditions like 70° and no wind and always have a perfect lie, then maybe your Strokes gained would be elevated. But that's not realistic.
