Never heard of this actually, I sort of thought of it when I started doing content and seeing the various reactions to things that I considered common knowledge.
"toxic positivity" is a useful concept that was almost immediately co-opted by people who just want everyone to be as miserable as they are
Toxic as a term is always gonna be wrongly used on some because of the desire to condemn others. Don't let the term/concept be dictated by people who use it haphazardly, develop your own internal sense of when it's present and adjust that sense as you learn. Makes navigating the internet much better.

Literally this. Im sick of being gas lit by top players screaming at the player base that theyre experiences with the game arent valid and they dont know anything about it. Especially when it comes to specific characters *cough cough HC and Asuka*.
@@RapunzelRedthey may be valid, but they are also so vastly different games at each level. One top player's gripes about the game could be 10 mid level player's reason for picking up the game. Take E.Honda right now. Low levels of play, he's running riot, but high levels he's a nothing burger, so should he get buffed because he's not performing? Should he get nerfed because low levels can't adapt?

I think people need to make decisions for themselves. Too many grown ups have youtubers making decisions for them, instead of try things out for themselves.
It's stuff like this that kind of really makes me dislike the FGC.

No wonder trying to talk about some niche fighters is a near impossible task. They are immediately dismissed and hated just for existing.
yeah the thing that actually turned me off of Roofelmonger is how he and his community talk about Skullgirls. Sometimes when a new game comes out I'll watch his videos just bc he comes out with videos the fastest, but I typically try to avoid his stuff. When you put down entire communities it just turns me off of your main stuff too, even if it's not a game I play.
For example, I don't like NRS games. I'm also not gonna shit on people who do and their tournaments for having less entrants than like SF or something, because that's wack and there are people that love those games

Wait, so you're saying when Punk won that major Street Fighter (5?) tourney and his post tourney interview he was like "This game sucks, I'm playing Guilty Gear instead," it *wasn't* good for the game? But the FGC thought it was great! How could the general public seeing the best player of a game say "the game sucks" be bad for said game, or the company behind it? Ok sarcasm over.
It's crazy to me seeing this cycle repeat again in the flesh and even crazier that the negativity seems to be even more prevalent
LK keeping it real is the hypest shit, it does not go unnoticed by me on the main channel.
I remember when SFV came out, I didn't like the game even though I tried to play it. I just decided that Uniel was a better game, so I stuck with it and kept playing it. Never spoke on SFV except to say "I don't like SFV, it's not for me"
I personally passed on both DBFZ and T7 when I was interested in them because I had heard Aris saying T7 sucked and I was like "he's the Tekken GUY. If he doesn't like T7 the game must truly be in a horrible place." and I had heard a LOT of negativity from DBFZ players in general.
I've since learned a lot (such as don't take Aris's opinions seriously) and I think that was a mistake, but I assume I was far from the only person who didn't ever try those games due to community negativity.
Out of curiosity as someone who just discovered pattheflip's articles, what takes are he notably wrong for?
I actually enjoy a lot of his thoughts on tournament mentality, but when it comes to GG and old vs new fighting games, we're just fundamentally at odds.
Prob the biggest thing that would annoy a GG purist about me is how I don't really care for the romanticism around XX/Xrd, and it comes across in how I talk about the game and how I play it.

I don't know how people can just keep playing a game that makes them upset. I'm a longtime Tekken fan and I think tekken 8 is absolutely hot garbage. I told steam to take my license and now I'm back on sf6 having a blast

@@acertainnemesisbut there are no options if you want to play what Tekken used to be, your best bet is Tekken 7 which at final patch has the exact same problems as Tekken 8 just to a lesser degree, and otherwise what, dead SC6, console exclusive VF, dead DoA, and even then it's not like in 2d fighters where you can switch games and still play essentially the same character. If you dislike tekken 8 you're out of luck for options for that experience.
Ngl boiling down Azucena complaints to just her WR move ignores the other 60 options she can use alongside its pre patch strength.

I can't comprehend the levels of coping when the devs make a terribly frustrating unfun game and when the player base starts tanking as a direct consequence it's somehow the players fault for complaining too much

I play a lot of fighting games, and get used to a lot BS etc. however Tekken has been a series I grew up (since Tekken 1) with and is my main fighting game of choice. However Tekken 8 is the worst Tekken. It’s the least Tekken game in the series.
The new mechanics make players bad at actual Tekken, and has turned the game into a wannabe anime fighter.
The crazy stuff in anime fighters work, because they are designed around that. Which makes them fun, however when you turn a game that’s about sidestepping, crouching etc. certain moves. (Highly defensive play being the main point of Tekken.) It just makes is not the same game at the point, and should’ve made it a spin-off.
Honestly if Tekken 7 had the netcode of Tekken 8 I would still be playing that. (However rather play Tekken 6 or 5 gameplay wise.)
Tekken 5 = best gameplay
Tekken 6 = best customization
Tekken 7 = best roster and Eliza
Tekken 8 = Reina
I have hated on this game since it was announced, and knew it was going to be trash forever. However I am one those people LK talked about. Grinding a game I hate, because I am Tekken player at heart, and I want Tekken to be better.
