hearing “you basically have to guess if they’re going throw another fireball or if they’re going to anti air you” is really like. isn’t that like. the point?
Most of the situations he was complaining about can be solved by not only being invincible but just hitting 6P, the god button. Also Slayer DOES have a projectile YRC in helter skelter. While it does make you plus 20 or so, it can be reflected by a flick or drunkard shade. Just being technical but it's there, the dude needs to hit 6p more
Yeah big agree. I don't usually think of Helter skelter as a yolo yrc option like stinger/stun edge/etc even though it's def a strong offensive option.
Oh god I remember when new people came into the Xrd discord asking about this video. I think the most damning part of this video is that the easiest way to make it interesting would've been to flip the script in the second half, because the video makes ZERO acknowledgment of a really important part of the RC dynamic: Slayer is one of the best users in RRC in the game. It would've been kinda cool to see it explored how now the shoe is on the other foot, and that Stun Dipper RRC, while not weak, is nowhere NEAR as strong as letting Slayer say fuck it we ball with Pilebunker, or convert combos into PB loops like he got a counterhit when he didn't. But instead it just becomes really whiny because "waaahhh I'm Slayer I don't like to block Ky makes me block waaaahhh"
An anime grappler should make a 30 minute essay about how half the mechanics in the games they play are bad because they can't use them. Like "imagine if there was a way to cover the ground in front of you quickly but still able block in time to defend from retaliation, enter... dashing". For real though, even though it can be a feel bad, especially with true low tiers in older games like Anakaris, I think characters having different levels of being able to interact with and abuse system mechanics is a really interesting element of fg design, especially in games like guilty gear where characters can have such unique and powerful personal mechanics to differentiate themselves.
Universal mechanics which are truly universal tend to not be particularly interesting on their own. It's why I've seen that developers tend to prefer designing them in a way where they're solutions to a specific problem, rather than tools to create interesting situations
@@chazaqiel2319And this is why SFIII 3rd strike parry is goated. Truly universal and still really sick. That said, yes not everyone gets the same reward off parry
I also share in disagreeing with Rubbish here but as a Slayer player hold that CH into 80 percent combo you pixie player youre actually just mad you dont get to run the same dry ass millia oki you do on every other character
real you actually get very sick oki on slayer as millia on another char i would lose it vs him EDIT - yes the allegations are true as well, I def am trying to just run it lmao
Just wanna say I appreciate how much actual personal insight you give for these videos, you’re like one of the few content creators I know that actually **REACT** in these reaction videos lmao
As a Ky main, it always warms my heart when you have our backs, man. Also, Tekken 7 grabs bit is cap, yeah. If you need to learn throw breaks, you do that with command throws in mind, since they are the ones that require "correct" input, and generic ones will still be covered by either 1 or 2 input, but not 1+2 (the one input you specifically need for command grabs, not generic ones), and since 1+2 grabs look a lot more different than the other ones, it's not really a problem. tl;dr: the throw system is incomprehensible only if you make it incomprehensible for yourself.
15:14 as a slayer player tru, can't imagine it. BDC your shit even if I can only do it right 20% of the time What you gonna do counter hit me? I'm banking on landing 2 hits to win the round idc what you do with my health in the meantime
It's also ironic he used DP FADC as an example of how cancelling an invincible move is a powerful tool, and then complaining about a character that can cancel his invincible backdash into moves for no resources
@@karibu9933Exactly, like I get why yrc isn’t liked but when you’re complaining because you actually block for once as Slayer, it just becomes hard to taken seriously when your entire character is basically just shoryu fadc on crack
I've only played strive but Ky seems like the least of my problems when I play... Seeing players on Nago, now that's a different story and don't get me startet on the PTSD caused by hearing a "totsugekiiii"... That shit gives me nightmares
I only dabbled in XRD and I had to close his video halfway through the Slayer section lol. Slayer has infinity ways to deal with that situation other then block but like, also, just block it. Its not like Ky gets a 4way mix up off you blocking a fireball and like 2 seconds of patience on your end and most FG players will blow themselves up gambling on something risky anyways so just block it.
Rubbish actually has some great insights into the genre, it's a shame most of them are motivated by "I play X therefore I'm mad because of Y" XD Still a great channel imo
Having to spend the same amount of tension to block what otherwise wouldve been a hit even if the opponent didnt use YRC is insane to me, Slayer is mad he cant press a button from the other end of the screen without any consequences. Then he complains that the "exchange of tension" puts him in a disadvantage instead of being equal when he had to spend that tension to salvage the fuck up he made by autopilot slayer neutral.
i fucking lost it when they said "if i dandy step in neutral and they fireball yrc i lose" like dandy step isn't literally the most risky thing slayer can do in neutral. slayers complaining about not winning neutral by having a pulse
I am a slayer main, and i like yrc a lot! You can literally block on wakeup, and they put themself in meter penalty on every knockdown....We do not claim him!!
I watched this video like a week after it came out cause a friends sent it ro me, and when it got to the YRC part I guessed he played Slayer because of how he was complaining about it and was SPOT ON
Really cool how some players that one trick/dedicate to an archetype or a handful of characters will have an absolutely flawless understanding of game from its systems to individual characters despite only having one character like broski with aki in sf6. Then there's this...
Entirely an aside, but I actually kinda like calibur's reversal edge as a mechanic. People cried about it a shit-ton, but it's a cool tool with a lot of holes and a handful of benefits. It can be broken with break attacks, they're mostly very linear (making it prone to getting stepped unless the opponent dumps a big move into it), and you're not guaranteed to win the RPS. Despite those weaknesses, they give you a lot of meter and get people out of your face, and they often have character specific options which make it more or less desirable to go for. Those options even mean it isn't a true RPS and you can strategize around your and the opponent's "best moves". Examples I know of would be Zas getting or spending curses or Tira being able to go for a stance change, health leeching, or other stance specific options. The worst crime it commits is breaking flow to the extent it does. Shock horror, another system mechanic that doesn't work the same universally. Almost like specific strengths and weaknesses of character interactions add flavor or something.
Honestly, I've felt this same way about YRC for the latter half of the games life even playing characters like Baiken who utilize the mechanic quite well. My personal issue is the same one I have with FADC, and that is basically being able to throw out a move without much care just to cancel it just feels like it encourages scrubby play. Whether it's extremely scrubby like DP FADC, or something like sol fireball yrc and recovering to anti air your jump in or something along those lines. There are too many things to cover in a youtube comment but I can definitely get behind the sentiment that YRC or any other mechanic that lets a player cancel their move and be safe or punish your reaction feels pretty bad.
I think about that video a lot. I think the idea of systemic oppresion in fighting games is compelling, but choosing Slayer as an argument is baffling. Slayer's greatest strengths (big damage, 6P, BDC) exist in part to compensate for the fact that he can't projectile YRC like the majority of the cast. He was always desingned to play his own game and abide by his own rules.
I like rubbish’s videos but I really couldn’t watch a whole video comparing fighting games to systemic oppression as someone who is systemically oppressed because of the my country’s history with race, just was a very poor taste comparison to me
bro stop being such a snowflake. it can really feel like you're being oppressed if you're like a low tier or something. obviously it's not as bad as whatever you're going through in real life but the analogy still makes sense
