Well, it's been a long time since I got such a warm tingling feeling with shivers down my spine from a brass performance, but this one did it. Phenomenal performance.
It's definitely one of the greater ones. But there are also a handful that are arguably stronger than this. Of the ones I've heard; "St. Magnus" - YBS 2004 "Concerto Grosso" - YBS 2002 "Trance" - Valaisia 2016 "Year of the Dragon" - Brittannia Building Society 1992 "Masquerade" - Fairey Band 1994 "Fraternity" - EIkanger 2017 "Variations on an Enigma" - Eikanger 1989 All are more complete perfomances in my book (and did score higher at the event). This is not to discredit this performance(!), but more to shine light on the absolute and thorough quality of the bands, and this competition.
What a wonderful performance of a very difficult contest piece by an amazing band and conductor. This will be a big help to me as my band are playing it at this years Scottish Open in November!!
#SEMPER FIDELIS #QUA PATET ORBIS #JE MAINTAN DRAI ! ♫♪ great ♫♪♫♪♫♪☺ BRAVISSIMO @/bisbis 🎶🎵🎼 great music! a well tuned ensemble that sounds like an organ ! Fabulous banding! Compliments! #SEMPER FI #QPO #JMD🎵🎼🎼🎶🎵🥁🎺👌🙏🎺
It's a reference to the drum line of the the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps....i.e "Keeping up with the Jonses." Historically, SCV has had a VERY good drum line..consistently at or near the top. SCV won the drum corps world championship this past August (their first since the tie with my old corps, the Blue Devils, in 1999, and their first stand-alone title since 1989), and they used "Journey to the Center of the Earth" in addition to "Metropolis 1927" in their program, "Babylon." th-cam.com/video/bftH0fw1g54/w-d-xo.html for their winning run. Metropolis was the closer, starting in earnest around the 10 minute mark.
I don't see how this could beat Willebroek, sure it's played perfectly, but except for the solos it's a much easier piece than Journey of the Lone Wolf, which was played by Willebroek, who also played brilliantly.
ElzearYoung sorry, this piece is 100 times better than Journey of the Lone Wolf. The first time I heard this, I had chills. Heard the lone wolf a handful of times and I'm done with it.
well, my point was that Journey of the Lone Wolf is more difficult than this. But I also disagree about Metropolis being much better than JotLW (of course, not without respecting your opinion). Ok, the repiano solo in Metropolis is very beautiful, but the faster parts seem pretty uninspired to me, while the third movement of JotLW is without exaggeration the most spectacular piece of brass band I ever heard.
8:09 the look of a conductor who knows his band has just won the contest
ur so right😂
You can say that again, one of the all time great performances imo. Totally nuts!
Well, it's been a long time since I got such a warm tingling feeling with shivers down my spine from a brass performance, but this one did it. Phenomenal performance.
What makes this awesome for me is that Santa Clara pulled this off while marching on the field, their show was almost note for note, incredible.
Over and over I listen and watch. Again and again, I laugh with pure delight. Thank you so much to everyone involved in this magnificent performance.
I love the whole piece so much, but my favorite part i think is around 6:57 when the piece "opens" up and starts the build up for the "big finale"!
Think this will be one of my favourites. My god i hope this is used again soon...
Anne Leveridge Santa Clara Vanguard 2018
Beautifully written, conducted and played. Fabulous. Thank You
Aww, massive cuts! Playing this piece at the moment and am enjoying it quite a bit. This is a brilliant performance!
OMG please tell me that means you're going to put out a video of this! *Huge fan eyes*
Oh shit it's you! Didn't know you were into brass bands, are we gonna get a russian version of this now or what?
You should make a piano version!!
Thank you for your comment👍😊

The Planets meet Westside Story!......... I N C R E D I B L E !.....They just may b Clones.....awesome musicianship!
.......to play the gamut of emotions this piece requires is truly super human!
Oh I would so like to play this, even on 3rd cornet. Just being immersed in such an incredible piece!
I'd take being page turner for the 5th percussionist.
Unbelievable!! The live Performance is even better than the Studio Recording. Maybe the best Performance ever played at the ebbc

Santa Clara Vanguard 2018
Was waiting for that mid horn pop before the end sequence, tho!
They don’t need Eb cornets for the high stuff though. They have screamers.
@@TheBandMan yes cause they play mouthpieces much smaller than the Bb cornet in a brass band
@@arimkaly3323 probably not. Marching trumpets usually are larger bore than normal trumpets, definitely larger bore than a cornet.
Magistral!
Flip in amazing
Eat your heart out DCI!
Gregory Campbell you just wait man, this piece in a show this year, it may just be the corps in my picture
Nah, BD will do it first
Gregory Campbell scv's doing it
Lol
SCV did it extreme justice this year. Perfect drum corps music!
I just got chills at 6:57

Absolutely B R I L L I A N T. Love Janet x
Wow
7.02 in - that is how to take a breath!!
Stimmungsvoll!
How do they determine how many percussion they are allowed to use?
2:07 makes me contemplate my life decisions...
ほとんどカットしても、最後だけで泣けるわwww
This performance is the brass banding version of a mic drop.
3:10 I can barely hear anything xD
Scv go at it!
Holy crap that ending---I bet SCV uses that. It'll be EPIC.
Nnn Iii they used just about everything they could have from this
Is this coming on an album? I'm so willing to get this.
7:02
Aaaaaand...drop the mike
Is that a mistake by the timpani player at 6:35 -6:36?The two sticks weren't played together so it seems slightly messy there.
Only one mistake!
The stick is reducing the reverb on the skin. It is not being struck.
Maybe timpani to late or bd to early
no it is a so called double stroke (common in effect at percussion) u got long stroke and short stroke! u try it urself !
Santa Clara Vanguard anyone?!?!? Their arrangement had all the energy that a concert band this size couldn't bring! Gimme some more of that JONZ.
What does jonz mean

So these people are actually amateurs..........not professionals?!?
Damn, my old band teacher has been slacking big time
Yes, i actually know the 5th solo cornet personally. He‘s a carpenter XD
SANTA CLARA VANGUARD 2018!!!

Pretty sure they aren't judging the piece, but rather the proficiency displayed by the band during the concert.
Wow
