Man, I just bought a 2002 EX with only 58,000 miles for $4500. It's in pristine condition. Like a time capsule. It's incredible. The paint and clear coat aren't even messed up, which is unbelievable for an early 2000s Honda. Southern car, so no rust. I was shocked at the deal I got on it. I've gone full middle aged dad, I'm excited over a mini-van 😅.

That’s awesome that’s incredibly rare especially at that price point in those miles..
I still have the one in the video I got a 2006 Honda odyssey as well one day I’m going to do a comparison video between the two I honestly think the 2001 is better than the 2006 because of the traction control issues in a 2006.. there isn’t any real traction control issues it’s just once and it feels wheel slippage it gives up. Whereas in a 2001 it’s possible to rock that back-and-forth to get out of a hole. Same can’t be said about the 2006 if it gets stuck you have to pull it out with something. Which can be incredibly inconvenient depending on where you’re at. Lol

@@What.its.like. The TC thing would be incredibly annoying. Especially in the south where you're on your own. The 06 won't let you turn TC off? I had an 06 Accord that was AMAZING in the snow, but only if you turned TC off.

    • @What.its.like.
      @What.its.like.  ปีที่แล้ว

It doesn’t have a button for traction control.. it’s an EX-L model pretty loaded leather and DVD player but gets 25 Hwy, 3/4 miles per gallon doesn’t sound like it would be that much of an improvement but it really is especially if you go to Florida at least twice a year.
I bought a Toyota Prius the commute back-and-forth to different places to shoot cars a lot of times I go across the state to classic automotive 5 1/2 hours away it only cost me $30 round-trip to drive the Prius there.
My wife drives a Prius a lot to work case in point this is incredible so we put $25 in the Prius she drove back-and-forth to work all week and then we drove to Erie from just above Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and back on the same $25, The Erie trip just to go to Erie and back cost $45 round-trip and the 2006 Honda odyssey van.. it’s nuts
The solenoids are all messed up in the transmission in my 2001 I just shift it manually. Which is totally awesome mine has a 5 speed transmission but the four speed died before I bought it
Another thing I will tell you is the air conditioning unit in a 2001 2002 is far better than the air conditioning unit in a 2006 it will actually frost the inside of the windows. I’ve never gotten a 2006 that cold

I just took mine to the junkyard two months ago I’m kind of regretting it the right was getting too bad it was gonna cost too much money to keep it forever..
We have a 2006 E-XL as well and it’s not half the van this was traction control sucks the 2001 could get stuck but could rock it to get unstuck. Which isn’t possible in the 2006 it cut power to the wheels even if you shut traction control off it just spins
I paid $1800 for mine and got six years out of it there was 260,000 On it when I took it to the junkyard they gave me $600 for it which was more than anybody else would give me for everybody wanted to come test drive it to try to blow it up when I had it for sale kind of ticked me off

@@What.its.like. The resale value on my odyssey isn’t soo great(Blue Book is around $1500. Because it’s a good running van, I can’t see the point in selling it for soo cheap when it runs soo well , so I’m just gonna keep it as long as I can. I drive very easy, and baby it.
I’ve had my odyssey for 7 years and I bought it for $1200 with 175,000 on the dash, and its been good to me. I’ve managed to keep up on the maintenance, which only costs a few hundred dollars a year. Brakes, a tire here and there, oil changes every 5k. The engine compartment is kept clean too. I am always wiping it clean.
Everyone tells me to get a new car, but why? There’s nothing wrong with it!! It runs and other than some typical rust near the gas fill, and rear wheel wells, the exterior is good. The interior is CLEAN. Seats are still clean, and firm, no tears or burns ..Carpet is clean, glass is in tact, no chips or cracks. My power sliding doors function well, my heat and AC work, and I still have the stock cassette stereo and CD player in. I’m content lol.
I have a friend who’s paying $850 a month for a Tahoe! That’s not including insurance! Costs him $80-$100 to fill it, and the maintenance is crazy. No thanks. I’m happy where im at.

Totally agree with you why spend more to have less in the end, new cars are overrated.. I haven’t drove any of the newer Honda vans so I can’t speak for them.. but the 2001 era was a good one, only issue I’ve read was the transmissions but i think most were updated by now there was a recall I believe
I have three vehicles ( want another classic car ) all paid for
      2009 Toyota Prius
      2006 Honda odessey
      1951 Chevy 3800 1 ton
My truck is better than anything on sale now as a work truck and paid less than 10k for it

I’ve driven it 35,000 miles same oil and filter (well it leaks and burns oil there have been times when I check the oil. There wouldn’t be any on the stick still runs great it’s going for a oil change soon it’s been 1.5 years and 35,000 miles since it was last changed. Willing to bet the farm couldn’t do that in a Mercedes!

Yes, I just took that van to the junk yard I paid 1,800 for it got 6 years out of it and junk yard gave me $600 I drove it there
The only reason I got rid of it was the body was rotting and needed a lot to keep it going
We have a 2006 Honda EX-L it’s loaded but isn’t have the van the 2001 was, traction control kills the 2006 yes you can turn it off but then the wheels spin and engine cuts off power the 2001 wasn’t like that and will go just about anywhere

No rust in California 220000 miles on mine. Trannys fine just replace all the solenoid and shift controllers and use Honda transmission fluid and radiator fluid only. I got my check engine light to go out. You got to fix that check engine light the bad sensor goes to default and it runs like crap fuel economy and everything else so don't just leave your check engine light on. Can't get a smog test in California with engine light on. This fan is like a beast very reliable.

The last year of ownership tried to kill it and couldn’t I drove 35,000 miles with the same oil filter (it leaked oil so the oil wasn’t the same.. lol
I never fix the solenoid problem I just shifted it manually and it works great

I've got a 2001 Odyssey with the 4-speed automatic and have had zero problems with the transmission. It has 120,000 miles. Every single year I change the oil and drain and refill the transmission. I don't go so far as to drop the transmission pan and change the filter though. Still, things are going fine transmission wise. Probably a lot of people who have problems don't change their fluid or use the wrong kind. I of course only use Honda transmission fluid. I do have the exact same problem as you with the cloth covering coming off of the front doors. I wound up just pulling mine off and feel it looks much better being off than being on and looking ratty. It would probably look better if I spray painted the doors a different color. Overall mine has been great. No rust at all, (it rarely snows here). It sits outside all the time and does have a decent amount of clear coat flaking though.

The 04 Odyssey my family had, we got rid of it in 2018 with about 120,000 miles on it, the vent windows no longer worked, and the passenger side sliding door had issues with it getting stuck, two locks didn’t work properly, and it had a noisy powering steering pump. The engine ran just fine, it was just noisy with the AC compressor running, and as far as I know, no transmission issues. I miss that van. I see a ton of 1999-2004 Odysseys for sale on Facebook marketplace and sometimes I’m tempted to buy one.

If you don’t mind me asking what vehicle did you get to replace your Honda van? I’ve owned two Honda vans I’ve had this 2001 we have a 2006 X - L which has leather seats DVD sunroof it’s more equipped than the 2001 but the 2001 was a better it didn’t have the traction control crapped it the 2006 one has we’re thinking about getting a 2011 touring but they have just gotten ridiculously priced before all this Covid crap with the market and everything you could get one of those with 100,000 miles for like six grand now that same van is like 10 grand and I can’t bring myself to spend $10,000 on a 20-year-old van that has over 100,000 miles make sense the world that we live in now.
The other cool thing about the 2001 is you could shift that transmission manually if you did that it was really fast I beat cars that I shouldn’t be able to beat in that thing I erased my buddies jet wagon in an episode where I talk about all the abuse that I put that van through and it took it and I beat him with 35,000 miles on the same oil on the Jetta one but in reality, I beat him. AC blows colder than my 10+yr newer caravans at work. It shifts smooth. Runs reliably. And i wont sell this van. Im driving it til it dies because I only paid $2000 3yrs ago. These vans are well worth it. Transmissions ans timing belts need attention. Outside that youre golden. I change the oil every 2-3,000 miles with full synthetic. And use some berrymans b-12 chemtool in the gas tank a few times a year when filling the tank to keep the sludge down. What a great van. I would take an odyssey over an accord with the same miles.

I just took mine to the junkyard because my wife told me that I wasn’t allowed to buy any more cars until I got rid of that one.. I really want to buy a 30s car.. Plus I wasn’t really driving it that much anymore and it needed a whole bunch of stuff to keep it on the road the last year and a half to two years I’ve been trying to kill it just to see if I could because I only paid 1800 for mine.. all the solenoids are most of them inside the transmission were bad so you could’ve just put it in drive it would slip wood going between first and second second and third but if you shifted it manually it didn’t have that problem and it was actually very fast if you did it that way I raced all kinds of people in my van.. The van with 35,000 miles without an oil change it wasn’t the same oil because it leaks like a sieve but it was the same oil filter and it fired up and drove great but it needed a windshield it needed a ball joint or wheel bearing it was just a bunch of stuff that added up to it wasn’t worth saving. But it killed me taking it to the junkyard because that was the car that had the best air-conditioning system I’ve ever had we have a 2006 and it’s not even close. Also the 2000 one doesn’t have the same traction control system for 2006 has no actually going to snow the 2006 if it feels Any resistance it gives up, turn traction control off and it just spins it doesn’t go anywhere.

Sweet EX EX-L or touring, the last year Ive been trying to kill it and it won’t die. Love Honda’s because they are very forgiving and don’t blow up when they lose oil ( for the last 1.3 year I’ve been neglecting my 2001 van to see how much abuse it can take, Ive driven it 35,000 miles on the same oil filter, don’t do this, but it runs great). I’m willing to bet the farm couldn’t do that in a Mercedes bmw and most definitely not Land Rover product.
Comparison coming I have a 2006 EX-L and honestly I think the 2001 is better =) 2006 has traction control and it sucks it won’t allow wheel spin so if you get stuck in snow your stuck 2001 will keep trying
