All of this after he lost 2007 by just 1 point because Alsono couldn't accept that a rookie was as fast as him and became nasty.( I am not saying Lewis had no fault in that, but you would expect the reigning champion to be more mature than a rookie). But in hindsight, Massa probably would have made a better WDC in 2008. A heroic win on home soil to take the title - now that we know how their careers would proceed, I would rather Massa had own the WDC.

However, March in Melbourne isn't much better. I am from Adelaide and remember going to most of the races here and I agree, a lot of them were great, even with the bad weather...

Last I heard was that McLaren actually favored Alonso and that it's visible in Monaco 2007, when they called Hamilton too early in the pit. But then you find the actual race, full race, and watch it. And it's quickly clear they are lying, because LH was too slow, and couldn't match Alonso's pace even when Alonso came out of the pit with a full tank. McLaren was financing and training LH for 10 years prior to 2007, so of course they favored him. But Alonso refused to be the #2 driver, so they played with his setup, tire pressure and aerodynamics to make him a bit slower. And it worked out, but Alonso revenged to them later in the season, costing McLaren 100 million dollars in fees.

I remeber ecclestone was asked in an interview if he has any favorites. He said no he just would like to see the wdc decided in the last race, in the last lap and in the last corner. Back then I thought how unlikely that would be. Then the 2008 season came along, the rest is history.
Even after Lewis has now won 7 world titles, I still stings that he never won the title in 2007. I was only nine at the time and I was devastated and I can’t believe he was never the first ever Rookie champion.
All for the best. I’m sure he learnt a lot that season and wouldn’t be a 7x wdc without that loss. Alonso though should be disappointed. He had no excuse in losing that championship.
