Hey guys, whenever Michael says "split" he is in parallel mode. It is still humbucking and no noise. Also it is a different sound that split. On a Studio Elite with a Lead/Rhythm circuit we use switches to do series and parallel as well as split for even more tonal variations.
@@gravyblue No, they are stacked single coils. So they have a single coil vibe but they are two coils stacked on each other. That way they are hum cancelling and they can be be wired series and parallel as well as split.
Takes me back to my teens, the LA session scene, a wardrobe full of wide shouldered, coloured dress jackets, Giant, James Tyler and Dan Huff virtuosity. Thanks for the nostalgia. 🙏🏻
Dann did a session for my dad around 1988 he had three Tyler modded Fender Strats. His rack was a Bradshaw rack using the Rocktron/ Bradshaw RSB 18 which was recently sold after being featured on Tom Bukovacs channel.
This is the Holy Grail and quintessential 1980s 'SuperStrat/LA Studio' guitar tone. Dann HUFF is a living legend as an A-List studio musician) and an A-List Nashville music producer.
80s guitar can be translated into a very unique type of expression of musicality. So much so that over time, there was no record of anything that was even remotely similar. Marked by an overdrive with little saturation and a lot of gain, which is typical in power ballads (see Dan Huff, Adrian Vanderberg, Steve Lukather), a delay that gave the dynamics and most importantly, which I think is the hallmark of the 80s: the chorus. Chorus as an effect is the hallmark of the 80s. If guitarists didn't know how to use it so well on the bases, especially, it wouldn't be so special. The sparkle effect of the Chorus is what marks the shine of the 80's guitar.
I worked with Mike Brignardello, the bassist with GIANT in the studio in Nashville. I played a bit of the intro to I’m a Believer for him and we had a blast. Great band.
Dan Huff fan all the way back to Whiteheart. The first Giant album hit near the end of the AoR and LA scene. Def a band a lot of people missed out on. Killer player, killer guitar.
Same brother. The thing is, even back then i saw some live footage of him, and the band in '82, and you can see him just wanting to cut loose and rock.😂. How did Dann and Steve Green EVER end up in the same band?!
Great video, great playing, great sounding guitar. Love the intro! So 80’s, I could have it on replay all night (in South Africa). Reminds me of all the great 80’s soundtracks. Beverley Hills Cop, Flash Dance…. Thank you! I will just dream of this guitar. The price 😮
Oh my god! When I heard you playing the first three single notes I had to stop the video and write this comment. This is Dann's sound, immediately, unrivaled. BTW beautiful composition and arrangement.
Re: Dann Huff signature models--- Actually- there were at least 2 Dann Huff named models / signature models etc in the early 90's - one by Schecter and another by PRS. And then in mid / late 90's you could order a black Tyler Classic in standard/custom or either Landau or Huff config...or their Ultimate Weapon model w/ HH Dann Huff-spec pickups. 👍
Ha ha, so this is officially the first time I had 2 Michal Nielsen Vids open. One watching the live stream. And on the big screen surfing YT for more goodies. And what do I find... Cheers from Germany!
never took the time to say it, but your demos are stellar Michael, not only because of the great sounds but your playing is flawless and tasteful. Keep going!
Very cool! I doubt there's many nicer more talented guys out there. I saw Giant open for Heart in about 92. Then I read he's producing so many great artists. Thanks pal!
That was the solo to "Look Away" - wasn't it? Fun fact: that song was written by Dianne Warren and originally intended for Europe on their 1989 Out of this world-album. Ron Nevison played it to the band but lead singer Joey Tempest turned it down since he didn't wanna work with outside writers. It was a no.1 single with Chicago instead.
Dann Huff is an amazing player. His stuff with Giant was so good. Thank you for sharing this great guitar with us all, crazy how many different tones you can get out of that.
Saved up hard and bought a Burning Water in 2003. Always wanted one after seeing Dann and obviously Mike Landau who were using them. The necks are just sublime. Been my number one for nearly 20 years. Great guitar; great video. Thankyou!
You know what I am thinking? So many people have never heard of dann huff, he is so underrated. I would paid a million dollars to see Dan huff jam with Eddie Van Halen
heard this kinda of preamp idea in a tele guitar once. it was so interesting and incredibly versatile. And it was the 80's in Australia. i don't know how he got it. great tones in that guitar
I have tried to emulate his tone for years! One of Dan's solos was actually what got me started playing music seriously, it was the solo on "Where Do You Hide Your Heart" sung by Amy Grant.
Mike, dude!!!! That track was SO SO SO AWSOME just fantastic playing and arrangement and production!!! - and then that guitar…..well now I want a TYLER…..
Great playing & great tones mate, you really nailed it getting that Dann vibe, he's such a killer player/vocalist/songwriter/producer well done & thanks!
Are you freakin kidding me , that song is amazing!!!!! Thank you for doing this that is such a great example of how a guitar can inspire an amazing tone and tune..
Dann was the 80s. Not only did he play on everything from the 80s, he also was a founder of one of the most Iconic CCM bands, WhiteHeart, back around 1981 while he was still in Nashville. FYI, his brother David, played drums in that band as well as Giant.
…Michael!!!!! ….you are just so. damn. Talented. …just wow. Thank you for sharing. Easily TH-cam’s best channel for guitar genre, and that saying something!! 🙌🙌🙌🙏🙏🙏
I think you should make a video about John Mitchell, the brain behind some very good British bands like Arena, Frost, It Bites, Lonely Robot, The Urbane and KINO (they released this great album called Picture).

Will hate the looks of the Tyler headstock forever. Everything else including Michael is A+++ ❤
same, I'm sure they are killer guitars, and i don't get caught up on looks, but that headstock is uninspiring.
i like it, it’s very “fashion clothing” and something different.
🟢CORRECTION: The Huff guitar pickups do NOT split. The "split" is changing from series to parallel. It's different.

I thought the neck and middle are single coil? Are they not?
@@gravyblue they're not. They're Seymour Duncan Hot Stacks (stacked humbuckers).

I was born in 1980, so I've got some memories of the 80's. Sweet memories. The intro jam brought back the best of those feelings.

@@saulocorrea8399 Agreed!
I saw Giant live in London, in a small venue, really great. He did a great cover of Jeff Beck's "Cause we ended as lovers"
i dont know what is it but from all the Jeff Beck's songs only this one is in my iTunes library.
I worked with Mike Brignardello, the bassist with GIANT in the studio in Nashville. I played a bit of the intro to I’m a Believer for him and we had a blast. Great band.
Love Dann Huff's tone and everything he did with Giant. Huge Fan. Thank you for this.

The intro needs to be made into a full instrumental song, it is soooo good.
Very nice! I love Dann Huff
Great video, great playing, great sounding guitar.

Dann is THE best of all time! Great to see others reconizing him.

So far, this is one of my favorite videos of 2023. Great job Michael!

Thank you for nerding out on the man Dann Huff and your egregious playing... Your channel is my weekly goto meditation session.
The intro is so good I can listen to it for days. So beautiful!
never took the time to say it, but your demos are stellar Michael, not only because of the great sounds but your playing is flawless and tasteful. Keep going!
Hey Michael can you shed some light on the chorusing you have going on the intro song,it's just out of this world ❤️
All hail Dann Huff and you Michael.
sweet tones & playing style. glad I found this channel.
Very cool! I doubt there's many nicer more talented guys out there. I saw Giant open for Heart in about 92. Then I read he's producing so many great artists. Thanks pal!
9.5 Huffs out of 10, all that's missing is a denim jacket and a pair of 80's sneakers.
And crazy hair!
That intro is pure 80's magic, Michael. Chapeau.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Dude great demo of a great guitar. You gut all the 80s clean tones nailed.
Love everything about this video, thanks Michael!
I’d love to see a shootout of a Huff vs a Lukather!
The only real difference is the pickups.
JTOs on the Luke.
Nice one Michael! This Dann Huff model is amazing in every way. You nailed the Chicago solo great job. Dann's sounds on Chicago 19 are massive!
Dann Huff is an amazing player. His stuff with Giant was so good. Thank you for sharing this great guitar with us all, crazy how many different tones you can get out of that.
All the Tyler's are spectacular ! This one is no exception.
Thank you for turning me onto Giant. Can’t stop listening and it’s awesome.
Wow, beautiful tone and great playing
Intro. Is THE sound I’ve been looking for my whole life!!!
Dude...that intro is so crazy tasty! Well done. You nailed the Huff tones.
I'm not sure if I come here more for the playing or the Dan Huff content. Either way I'm never disappointed.
When I first discovered Giant, I did the deep dive and researched everything about them. What a hidden gem! 👍
You're killing me, man! Great demo!
Everything sounds......wonderfully expensive. Great playing, great instrumental. Thanks - what a joy!
Cool guitar. First time seeing one or hearing one. Great tones!

Classic 80’s/90s Dan Huff/Michael Landau tones. Excellent!

Loved that. Tried guitar so many times but I am such a bass player. That's all my brain thanks of. I throughly enjoyed your demo.
I am in a portal and the sounds are so dimensional. Thanks for sharing. Incredible playing.
Very nice tones & playing.
You can't beat that blackguard look on a guitar either in my opinion. I have three guitars with that colour scheme.

Damnit, you shoved me into a swimming pool where the water had been swapped with liquid nostalgia. That sh!t hit me in the feels.
You really need to release some of these tracks.
Love everything DANN HUFF , One of my favorite Guitarists ever . Love this Guitar ! Sounds great
Lovely tribute to a fabulous player. Giant were fantastic in the day.
First became aware of Dan when he worked with Megadeth. I listened to all the Giant albums and was blown away.
Amazing tone and playing , Catchy tune ,love it!!
HEY MIKE.. NICE PLAYING! HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY..
I dont need a gift for sending you a compliment.
Michael can you tell us more about the signal chains you used, are you using your RedSeven MSLM with hardware or plug-ins?
Tyler’s are incredible, really the best S and T style guitars available.
I think you should make a video about John Mitchell, the brain behind some very good British bands like Arena, Frost, It Bites, Lonely Robot, The Urbane and KINO (they released this great album called Picture).
That intro clean is to DIE FOR!!
dude so good! i wish they made a lefty of this!
Michael, what kind of neck profile did the Huff have? Neck width?
Sounded great! Thanks
Love the guitar sounds on this episode!!!
Delicious Tones 😋❤🎸 specially the cleans. Is that chorus and compressor sir?
I would guess it is a JB wind with a A2 magnet. Essentially what the original JB was and that Seymour gave Jeff Beck and a few VIPs.
Alnico 5 magnets, counter clockwise winding direction, screw coil south and slug coil north polarity, 53mm wide f spacing, 50mm narrow g spacing

Dann Huff is a bad ass guitarist. Huge Giant fan
