    Not a fan of JD myself but this was too good a deal to pass up. I have tried it once or twice from the Xmas selections. Can't really remember the taste. Got a feeling that it might be too sweet a flavour for me but hopefully its ok. Have a Glenlivet 10 and a Talisker 10 to start first.

    My advice: get a bottle of old no. 7 and have a sip during a whisky session every now and then.
    that way you can (surprisingly quickly, definitely before you finish the bottle) start associating the smell of jack daniels with whisky instead of with regret.

      @@NoNonsenseWhisky we can never have too many no Nonsense reviews, haha! My favorite go to bourbon is the Evan Williams Bottled in Bond, i can buy a liter of it for 20$ and it tastes fantastic. I hope the prices on it stay where they are, however the whole bourbon scene has exploded in the last 10 years so even from week to week pricing and availability can change based on demand. I think American craft whiskies will start to become more popular and hard to get, something I'm starting to get into.

    Except for some (and very very few) exceptional bourbons, most taste about the same to me. Nothing like the huge variation in smell/taste with single malt Scotch. I’m therefore over knowing a bourbon I’ve not tried is simply nice or even very nice, and moving to wanting marked variety across the bourbons I have open. Here this one is £43-57+ equivalent, so not sure if the extra-sweetness is enough of a draw-card to get it. If the finish was megga-long maybe yes.

  • @whiskyhistories9287

    I will say I feel the 'I've paid discount rate, why pay full now?' mentality very strongly. However, something very similar has occurred in PC gaming for quite awhile thanks to Valve's Steam Sales, where everything gets deep discounts.
    The end result now is perfectly good, even great, games get made and then flop because everyone waits for them to go on sale. It drives down the value of game development enormously and hurts the industry as a whole, but particularly indie studios.
    I'd hate to see a similar mentality take hold in whisky, as it would kill craft distillers on a long enough timeline, and probably puts at risk any remaining independent distilleries.

    How dare you call Jack a bourbon...lol. Yeah it's still 95% a bourbon but you might be shot if you said that in Tennessee...jk.FYI my nemesis was Wild Turkey 101. Could not stand the smell of it from previous experiences. Now it is my favorite budget bourbon. It took 20 years. Should mention I also never liked Jack. Probably because of how common it is. Still haven't tried any of their products in decades. Thanks to you I will try this.

      Wild Turkey 101 was also my bad experience as a young man. Still haven't given it another chance...yet. I've been enjoying the Knob Creek single barrels tho....

      It depends on the price you're getting, but if its low enough then its a reasonable enough drop. Much better than the standard 7

    3:26 That is not a Bourbon. That is a Tennessee Whiskey. Bourbon, by definition, is distilled in Kentucky.

    • @NoNonsenseWhisky
      @NoNonsenseWhisky  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Incorrect. Bourbon can be made anywhere in the states. JD could be labelled bourbon if they wanted but they choose to call it differently

      @@NoNonsenseWhisky Interesting. Prompted me to do some follow up reading. And whilst "As of 2018, approximately 95% of all bourbon is produced in Kentucky, according to the Kentucky Distillers' Association," it is not a definitional requirement.
