Superb video Darren. You've inspired me to get across to Wales and do The Tumble soon. A few years ago a few of us did an 80mile route, the Rhigos and then the Bwlych from two sides. The second Bwylch climb from Neath that went on and on, but spectacular! Thanks again for your inspiration and fun! Simon, Clevedon.
Thank you Simon, funkily enough, I was looking at a route to do the Bwlch and Rhigos yesterday! I’d definitely recommend them all, the climbs got better as we went along.
Wow! You lucky buggers. I would've suffered from the cold but would love to do that route in warmer times. Looked tough but very rewarding. Well done all of you.
Wow, watching this vlog brought back all the memories from Sunday riding it! Gospel Pass gets my vote out of the 3! Love that you caught my near miss with the sheep on the 2nd descent! Looked a lot closer than I remembered too 🙈🐑 Ken gives the ride 2 thumbs up as well 👍👍😂
I had to dodge and be on the lookout for deer a few times last week, but those sheep seem a bit more unpredictable! Excellent descent footage BTW. 👍🏼 👍🏼 👍🏼
Thanks Scott, I didn’t actually film the funniest but nearest miss. Just after the bridge we came across a few sheep who all scarpered down the hill, except one, who carried on running just ahead of the bikes, we were shouting go right, go right, but the little bugger was obviously Welsh and didn’t speak English, as he ran to the left and jumped straight up a vertical grass wall!! 🐑 Iain did remark that he was a better climber than him!! 😂 I’m glad you noticed the downhill footage, more vlog upgrades 👍
Really enjoy your films. I discovered you because I'm down in Bristol for a few weeks of work and looking for inspiration for local routes to ride when I get the time off. Last weekend I took a ride into the Mendips thinking, how hard can they be, compared to the Dales and Lancashire hills that I'm used to riding? But OMG those Mendips climbs are brutally hard. They'll have set you up for your Welsh excursion no problem.
That’s brilliant, thanks Tim, the Mendips are very steep compared to other climbs we have done, but they are relatively short in comparison to the Welsh mountains. But we do like a climb or two. Hopefully one day, I’ll get to go and experience the Dales, as we have plenty of Official 100 climbs still to tick off. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for filming, I'll keep watching. Definitely heading into the Mendips next chance I get, Cheddar Gorge I have to visit - it was on the agenda last time but I ran out of steam and cut my route.
Thanks Michelle, I can only use the excuse, it was a very last minute change of plan and I didn’t really look properly at the names of the climbs 🤦♂️ I will try better next time 😂
Thanks Terry, the climbs weren’t as steep as our Mendip climbs, but certainly a lot longer! But the closer you got to the summit, the better the views got. We will definitely be going back. How are you currently? Hopefully you’re feeling better!
@@DarrenPhillips feeling a lot better thank you Darren, tho still not eating properly still on cup a soup best thing I’ve lost a stone in weight , back at Clatterbridge. Hospital tomorrow morning to see the ONCOLOGIST hopefully no more needles, and change my medication
Fingers crossed for you Terry, after my pathetic attempt at the Welsh climbs, I might have to try the cup a soup diet!! 😂 glad to hear you’re getting better though.
Funny you should mention Dartmoor, I’m here now enjoying some stunning scenery and planning on bringing the bike and gang back here very soon. I generally use Simon Warren’s official 100 climbs and Komoot. There are always treasures to be found.
@@DarrenPhillips great stuff mate, have a look around vensford resoivoir , we walked and cycled all around there, you can take a walk down to sharra pool , the views are stunning
Ooh - looked amazing 🏴❤️. I’m still laughing at some of your pronunciations - with you, of course, not at you 😄 because they were great efforts 👌
Thanks Dean, it was a great day out. Just looking at 100km route around Aberdare for the Bwlch, Bryn Du and Rhigos. Komoot says 1900m so 🏔 🏔 🏔 galore!!!
There is an Official 100 climb out of Aberdare called Bryn Du and it does go to Maerdy. I have a route to visit Wales again and do that one, Rhigos and The Bwlch. Might be a while though.
Wow 👏 some stunning views right there. Great effort to all the Mendip crew
Thanks John, it was pretty spectacular most of the day! It’ll take some beating that’s for sure.
That looked absolutely stunning 😍
It really was, I’d definitely recommend a trip there to anyone.

Thanks Pete, With all the climbing, it wasn’t that cold, but Iain was so fast up the hills, he was waiting for a bit!
@@DarrenPhillips I noticed Iain's good on the hills. His cassette is small too 💪
@@newbarker523 he has a 27 on the back! 😳
What fab climbs and roads stunning
Thanks Ade, we will definitely have to venture back that way soon, Pete did a bike packing trip through Wales and it all looked stunning.

@@timwilliams4207 yes, the Gorge is a must.
😂😂😂😂🤣 had to laugh sorry, but at least you attempted to say them. Great rides, in my part of Wales we had blazing sun but gusty winds.

Ace views, great climbing efforts boys!! 👏🏽
Thanks Lewis, they were some long tough climbs, but the views made it worth it
Mate, that's awesome stuff, reminds me of cycling in dartmoor, another place close to my heart

Nice one guys. That’s a lot of climbing! Can’t wait to hear Del’s (correct) pronunciations on the place names. 🤣

You need to try the Aberdare mountain into Maerdy where your Grandad was born, it's 1 in 4
