I've never driven a race car, but I did sit in a B-K Lola Mazda LMP2 car when I was 12 years old. It was a tight squeeze even for a child to get into that thing.

I used to work for the Daytona Karting group and we used to hold an event at Mercedes Benz World in Brooklands, Surrey for the Henry Surtees Foundation. As I was marshalling the event in like 2014 (I think), John Surtees took a bunch of his old F1 cars out on the MB World track and drove them in anger, before leading the field of karts around for pace laps. It was amazing to see these things being driven so hard up close. John then came round each and every marshal post and thanked us all for making the event possible. Absolute gentlemen, and a fierce racer! It's always great to see his cars out and about again :)
Use to work at Daytona karting Sandown Park almost 20 years ago we use to get ex F1 drivers and current racing drivers come round in charity events some of them were nice people to talk to and acted like everyone else great 3 years experienceI had.

Closest experience I have to this is driving a NASCAR around Auto Club Speedway, which is a legit 2 mile oval. Car was restricted, but going through the gears, feeling how stable it was at speed and the sound of that big V8 echoing off the wall coming out of turn 1 and turn 4 is something that I will never, ever forget. Congrats on living that same dream Jimmer, that looked like a whole lot of fun.

The classic f1 cars are always fantastic. Whilst never had the pleasure to go in one myself ive seen them many times around a circuit. My dad used to race in Historic FF2000 and when grids were small an old f1 car would sneak their way into the race. Greatest one i saw was probably the march 2-4-0 six-wheeler. You cant quite grasp the speed of these when they're buy themselves but they way they'd fly through the FF2000s was unbelievable. Very happy for you jimmer a great moment and well deserved.
There's not a more evocative sound in Motorsport than a Cosworth DFV - massive congratulations that Buckmore , and I'd imagine the Surtees family, let you have a play with a truly amazing bit of kit. Obviously hybrid would be involved but considering the current engineering going into low displacement motors with more cylinders its possible. Knowing some of these classic race mechanic types, I guarantee when he was out doing laps himself, he was picking the revs to set the limiter "too low" to avoid anyone getting too giddy on the straight and piling on, but that's just sensible with folks he doesn't know getting in a bit of history. Won't have impacted the joy of driving one of those things one bit - tremendous experience for ya. :)
For an old F1 car, that one in particular was known for its safety. I believe the fire protection was 100% lamb skin, leading to innovations that took us to the stars, and beyond, (and Volvo.)

I’m a nascar fan or stock car fan. I love these old cars cause they are so pure and a drivers car. Back then the f1 drivers would come over and drive stock cars cause they had lots in common. H pattern and little down force. Transition wasn’t that crazy actually. So awesome to see any old race car of any kind. I love it and what an honor

Brilliant Jimmy, what an experience. Knowing some of these classic race mechanic types, I guarantee when he was out doing laps himself, he was picking the revs to set the limiter "too low" to avoid anyone getting too giddy on the straight and piling on, but that's just sensible with folks he doesn't know getting in a bit of history. Won't have impacted the joy of driving one of those things one bit - tremendous experience for ya. :)
For an old F1 car, that one in particular was known for its safety. I believe the fire protection was 100% lamb skin, leading to innovations that took us to the stars, and beyond, (and Volvo.)

A piece of history right there. Just stepping foot in that car would be emotional enough, but Imagine if you got to drive it around a track that it belonged on, Monza, Spa, Nurburgring, Silverstone etc? That would be fucking amazing.
I’m a nascar fan or stock car fan. I love these old cars cause they are so pure and a drivers car. Back then the f1 drivers would come over and drive stock cars cause they had lots in common. H pattern and little down force. Transition wasn’t that crazy actually. So awesome to see any old race car of any kind. I love it and what an honor

And yeah, there should be some kind of "analogue f1" these days. I don't know much about F2 and F3 but I assume they're still way more complicated than these, despite being much closer than modern F1.
Its basically a big go cart, as the guy says, man I love this era of F1 cars. Congrats man, you're driving an actual F1 car driven by an actually well known driver, good stuff. I can hardly believe it myself, can't imagine how you must've felt.
This is absolutely mental. I'd be scared shitless to drive a screaming metal death trap with 500-some-odd HP while weighing like a relative twig compared to that. Even in first gear it sounds so intimidating. Happy for ya, Jimmy! That must have been like nirvana, the TS19 is a beaut. Driving it around such a tight and twisty track designed for go-karts must have been a little nervewracking.
