@@Wanderer001_Reviews Can this be used without an SD card? if i continuously record do i need to switch SD cards after a couple weeks? i need 24/7 recording that i can go back review ever second of if need be.
Thanks for an amazingly helpful tutorial. I watched several other Eufy tutorials but nobody talked so much about the SD card and other parts of the device. I rely on tutorials like this and appreciate how in-depth you went.
Thank you very much. I make these videos just like this to help everyone that does not want to have to watch several videos just to find the answer to a question they have.
I recently purchased 3 of these. Since your review they have gotten much better. The App has most of the features you said were lacking. Also it also works with Homebase 3 which adds AI face recognition and central storage. My Homebase 3 has an optional 500GB SSD. No memory chips needed. For looking out windows I use an adhesive mount to stick it on the window with the IR lights off. Ambient lighting is needed for night use.
Excellent review, thank you. Am I right in assuming that if you have a 32meg SD card then it just overwrites the oldest recording when the card is full? So it records 24/7 regardless of the "available space", You are just restricted by how many continuous days it records before it overwrites. Hope you follow me there.
Yes, that is correct. The camera can be set to just record clips if you want to save more space on the SD card. It just means that unless there is a motion event it will not record. I like 24/7 recording in case I need to look back through the SD card for something that might have been seen but did not trigger the camera.
Can this be used without an SD card? if i continuously record do i need to switch SD cards after a couple weeks? i need 24/7 recording that i can go back review ever second of if need be.
It can be used without an SD card if you subscribe to the cloud service. However that will only save Clips if you want to record 24/7 you will need an SD card. If you want to be able to review recordings after a couple of weeks you will have to use the maximum SD card size that the camera allows and even then it would depend on the amount of activity. Once the SD card reaches the end of its available space it will override older video.
@@luka_ingabire If you want to you could. Just remember to set the SD card to not over ride older video or else if you don't get to it soon enough it will right over older footage.
I beleive this works with the Homebase 3 now? That way you do not need the SD card and option for cloud storage? Please mention Homebase 3 integration in updated video's . Thanks!
Hello, someone has been vandalising my truck at night. am i able to put a micro SD card in this, and leave it recording over night in my truck (with no WIFI) to catch whoever has been doing this? any info is greatly appreciated.
So if I’m on the app and I’m viewing the video live and I start recording it myself, will the video I recorded be in 2K if I have it set to 2K always? Or will it only be in 2K if it records from motion detection?
Great review man! Just got this, my first ever camera I'm new to the whole security camera ecosystem. Also bought the Eufy S40 being delivered tomorrow. Wondering if I even need the S40 now lol just place this in my window inside and no stupid batteries plus 128gb storage vs 8gb on S40.
@@Wanderer001_Reviews Have you used the S40? I'm concerned about battery longevity especially in the Michigan winters with snow etc lol bought the gutter mount bracket off of Amazon. New subscriber by the way. Your videos are a lot more thorough than others I might add! Have you used the Reolink Argus 3 Pro? Debating on that system however I've read the lag is awful.
I have not personally use the S40. However it is a camera that I and very interested in testing. From other reviewers that I've seen online battery life seems to be pretty good. Better than you'd expect from something like this. I have not heard of the other manufacturer that you mentioned. Eufy is a subsidiary of anchor which is a manufacturing company that I'm familiar with. Which is why I was willing to give them a try. Thanks for the sub and noticing the extra effort I try and put into my videos.
Hi, thanks for your review. Do you know whether the motion detection is IR based or pixel (image based). I have an S40 which uses IR detection, which works ok at short range (up to about 8m), but I can draw an activity zone that extends much further, such as out to about 35m and the IR detection has no chance of detecting motion at that range so the activity zone is a bit pointless. True pixel based detection should however work across the entire field of view.
It's not the best you can't turn off the our lights and keep it in night mode. So if you use it in day mode the IRS will be off but the picture won't be as good as it could be in the dark.
There is a toggle in the app that can be turned on or off for auto night vision. It sounds like if you room is dark or the camera thinks it is getting dark it will turn the IR lights on only to turn them off because it actually is not dark enough to use them. If you turn off the auto night vision option for the camera that should help.
Only clips are saved in 2k. As far as run time it is very dependent on how much action happens on the video you should be able to get well over 2 weeks.
Great review! If you don’t have the cloud service but do have an SD card what happens if the camera is broken or stolen? Is it still available in the app or is it local and gone forever
Camera broken as long as the SD card is ok you can get the clips, but would need to be put in another camera. Stolen, nothing you can really do about that. The one issue with having only local storage.
Would this work if I installed it in my basement which is way outside my wifi reach in such a way that the content would be stored locally and then I can bring the camera into range to download the the content? I’m struggling to find a camera like this that could work without an internet connection. Hopefully this option will work
Sadly this would not be the option for you for what you are looking for. However, I think this camera would be: th-cam.com/video/4686czvqF0o/w-d-xo.html. There is also a v2 which has colored night vision. Hope this helps you out.
The could recording is not for 24/7 recording it is only for motion clips or active recordings you make. At this time I do not see a 24/7 cloud recording option for them. Also, current offering is only through app on phone or tablet.
At this time this is a stand alone device. eufy might change that in the future but have not made any announcements about that. Good rule of thumb is if it has an sd card built in it does not connect to a home base.
