Athena literally did nothing to her in the original myth. That's just later Roman telling because, well, the Romans hated Athena so they just wrote her as a bitch (like they did to her in the Arachne myth.) Medusa was just a harpy monster in the original myth, born of the Titans alongside her two sisters. I honestly hate this telling, because it makes Athena look bad and ignores the tale of Cassandra of Troy.
I love how Fate reimagines all those different myths. Medusa's more than any other, perhaps. While Fate hasn't treated her kindly, it's still a bit better on what went throught in the original myth.

The Gorgon Sisters really grew on me over the main story in FGO. And they're all solid Servants gameplay-wise. As for Gorgon herself, I'd totally date her. Snake bites and petrification be damned. :P

I love gorgon and when I read that she "kept her sisters corps" I just thought they died but then I remembered that they are immortal goddesss , but now I'm sure, medusa ate her own sisters TT__TT .. Out of all of the Gorgon sisters I sometimes use Euryale for specific situations involving Males. Honestly I dunno whats worse for Ritsuka M dealing with Stheno and/or Euryale or Wu Zetian in very lewd situations.

To each his own, Stheno is useful in Camelot as well as Euryale. But, there are too many better options outside of male enemies for Stheno. Speaking as a proud owner of Hessian Lobo and a lv 80 Medusa and Medea. Love those characters.
It's a weird family shenanigan if you have siblings. Siblings fight each other all the time, calling names, bully, degrade one another, but always united against any outsider. Medusa is in a unique situation that her sisters are twins who heavily depending on her for everyday tasks just to survive. This expand in Fate Hollow Ataraxia, although the twin goddesses was still love by human and only Medusa got cursed by Athena, they still choose to go with Medusa in exile to the shapeless isles. In the end family stay together, and countless men got trick by petty Greek gods and venture to the islands in order to kill Medusa and "rescue the twin goddesses" for fame. Everytime Medusa kills, she slowly turns into a mindless monster gorgon, til the day the effect is irreversible (one bad end for Rider in Hollow Ataraxia, when she's fight for Sakura longer than she should and start losing herself in the rampage). Without Medusa, the twin sisters can't survive by themselves, as they can't do anything, so they offered themselves to Gorgon in hope that Medusa would regain her sanity back and at least they would be still together again. Sadly it's not happen. Persus defeat Gorgon by making it looks itself in mirror hence temporarity stunt it (Gorgon remind of the time the 3 sisters together and how Medusa was the cause of her sisters death), everything happen afterward just like original lore, with Athena decorate her shield with Gorgon head, etc. If Athena get introduced to FGO, I don't care if she is 5 stars, I will burn her when I got her LOL.
As much as I don't like how Stheno and Euryale treat Medusa, listening closely to them talk about their youngest sister shows that they do care about her greatly; one of Stheno's lines when defeated is her declaring her love for both her sisters. Both the older sisters say that what they like the most are their siblings, including Medusa, and even Stheno says that, as impossible as it is, the wish she would want through the Grail would be for the three of them to return to the Shapeless Isle and live together again. Even their deaths say how much they love her; they may have had a chance to try to escape, but chose not to because they would not leave their precious little sister behind.
Medusa has always been my favorite servant from watching the original anime, to the VN, and the rest of the series. I can't wait until quick meta so I can rationalize grailing Lily and Rider.
I am glad I have all 4 of them, though I think Gorgon had some Goddess envy and kept Quetz from answering my summons, since she is now maxed out at NP5.
Makes me think back to the first time you get introduced to Medusa in F/SN, just standing behind Shinji all silent and ominous. She looks really scary, but then, as you're leaving Shinji's house, you have the option to talk to her. If you overcome your fear and actually do so, you get that first hint that maybe, beneath that intimidating exterior, there is a good person. Then, of course, there's Heaven's Feel where she demonstrates her love and devotion to her master, and Hollow Ataraxia, where she's just adorable the whole time. Overall, a great character.
Eye of the Tsundere does unbelievable damage to half of the bosses in the game. Very powerful when Grailed up, quite opposite to her mythological self.

Nah, Athena's curse would have claimed her regardless and she likely would have lured heroes to attempt to "slay the monster" in order to stain Medusa's hands and get Medusa to become more and more monstruous.
medusa managed to stay sane for all that time because her sister were with her counteracting athenas curse. without those two medusa would have turned into gorgon in no time.
Stheno is either locked up in my second archive or fed to Blackbeard as a ritual catalyst. Euryale would join her if she was as useless and infuriating as stheno.

I'm probably just foggy since it's been 10 years since I first got into Fate, but this is really different from what I remember. Wasn't her rape in the temple of Athena by Poseidon originally part of her lore? I remember going through all of the wikis way back when and reading that it's that particular incident that cemented her connection to poor Sakura, hence why she was summoned. Am I remembering this wrong or was she just retconned at some point? Personally, I find Gorgon eating the twins as kind of a missed opportunity. It's depressing for sure, but I was really moved by the mourning of the twins in the original myth - especially Euryale's cries of agony when she saw Medusa fall. It really punched in how much they loved each other and I feel like Fate could have benefited from that part of the lore.

There were even entries that speculated Medusa's assault as one of her major connections to Sakura - leading to the latter being able to summon her and to the fact that Medusa later summons Pegasus via stabbing herself in the neck (emulating Perseus beheading her and Pegasus' birth). I'm just wondering if that old background for Medusa actually got retconned or if it was an assumption made by those older wikis.

I'm probably just foggy since it's been 10 years since I first got into Fate, but this is really different from what I remember. Wasn't her rape in the temple of Athena by Poseidon originally part of her lore? I remember going through all of the wikis way back when and reading that it's that particular incident that cemented her connection to poor Sakura, hence why she was summoned. Am I remembering this wrong or was she just retconned at some point?
Personally, I find Gorgon eating the twins as kind of a missed opportunity. It's depressing for sure, but I was really moved by the mourning of the twins in the original myth - especially Euryale's cries of agony when she saw Medusa fall. It really punched in how much they loved each other and I feel like Fate could have benefited from that part of the lore.

@@imdone439 I understand that part because Fate got me very heavily invested in mythology and folklore, but I also distinctly remember that wikis way back when had Medusa's background grounded in that Ovid interpretation. There were even entries that speculated Medusa's assault as one of her major connections to Sakura - leading to the latter being able to summon her and to the fact that Medusa later summons Pegasus via stabbing herself in the neck (emulating Perseus beheading her and Pegasus' birth).
I'm just wondering if that old background for Medusa actually got retconned or if it was an assumption made by those older wikis.
Perseus is my second favorite hero, Diomedes is my first. Afterall, proto justify him and he such a nice guy.
