Finally, a video of someone moving to Hawaii who is NOT American! My husband and I moved here about 2 months ago from Canada and it has been a long, tough journey. We drove from Sherbrooke, Quebec, across Derby Line Vermont, all the way to LA in 13 days to take a plane to Big Island. We're still having a bit of a hard time adjusting to various aspects of life here, but it is getting easier by the week as we figure out how things operate. So far the people are pretty nice overall & the aloha spirit is definitely alive. We now live on Big Island, the biggest & least populated of the main islands. My husband has a 3 year, renewable, non-immigrant TN Work Visa as a Librarian (Master's degree) and I am on a spouse, TD Visa, so I can stay here with him. I can look for work, but if I want to work I MUST fly back to Canada and apply for my own TN Work Visa as a Dietitian (Bachelor's degree) at a port of entry & come back. Decently simple process actually, just have your paperwork in order before getting to the border. It really helps that I did not work for the first 2 months to help settling in go smoothly. A 7 hour time different from home does make morning phone calls a necessary thing while you're getting set up. I imported a car here... it took 3 weeks to get here and we anticipated 7 days. The Matson website was wrong & there a a hurricane that back up shipments to Big Island. I had to have a minor symbol changed on my dash before import. You cannot import a vehicle that is financed in Canada, therefore you must pay it off before you bring it. All forms on public transit on Big Island are... not great & not all that reliable & you pretty well need a vehicle to have any fun. We ended up getting a moped day 2 so my husband could get from our AirBNB to his work... Finding housing... apartments, etc. is tough & expensive. Getting a Costco US Credit card is proving tough even though our credit in Canada is excellent; just because you have good credit at home, doesn't mean you have ANY credit in the USA. Getting mail service, depending where you are can be a challenge & everyone takes their own trash to the dump. Otherwise, so far so good. I've seen videos where people complain that Hawaii is expensive, but other than housing it is actually on par with Eastern Canada as far as the essentials go: gas, food, cell service, electricity, etc. Get a Costco membership, well worth it. I guess if you move to Hawaii from another Country, my best advice is to have a US Bank account BEFORE you come and have EXTRA money available because you WILL run into expenses you did not expect. Happy travels
Thanks for this video.. My husband is Danish and we would love to move to Hawaii with our kids, but I'm still jamacian, so I dont know how that would work out.. your so lucky to be living in a place Like this.. Im gonna check out all of your videos ❤️
One of my goals is to live in Hawaii, of corse I am American so it should be easier. Can you make a video on how you afford it, what it was like leaving for a place you knew no one & how it is being vegan in hawaii
Being vegan in Hawaii is pretty normal. Very do-able. I'm not vegan... but it seems so many others are. No worries there. Lots of farmers markets on Big Island.
💬 don't think i've forgotten about u tropicalinii... my beautiful tropical flower i'm so happy u're posting videos again... and i hope u'll keep posting them too cause all i wanna know is... what will tropicalinii be doing this summer? but not just this summer... i wanna know what u'll be doing every week from now on i wanna know everything... i wanna know how late u stand up, how late u go to bed... what u wear in the morning, during the day, what u wear at night... especially what u wear at night... i wanna know it ALL tropicalinii!! it's of the highest importance for me to know! so i hope u'll be wanning to share some of that intel with me some time soon but until then, i'll be just dreaming and fantasizing about u... wearing the most romantic evening wear as for now, let me just wish u a good night my love... and the sweetest dreams under the magical hawaiian night sky nighty night my sweet! 💛
Meine Mutter hat in Hawaii studiert und mir immer davon erzählt, deshalb will ich seit ich denken kann nach Hawaii gehen und im Sommer ist es endlich so weit 😍
I think I need some advices, as a not american going to work in Hawaii. I'm going to work for 6 months, I will stay with family, in honolulu but will be my first living in a place different to me, since I talk portuguese. There is places that I should avoid? I want to know dangerous places, so I can avoid. I dont drive a car, can I see beaches just walking or there is a bus that can go to many places? I live in a small country, I know traveling in hawaii will take more time than me going to the mall. And the last question, there is a big market, like walmart or target, where I can buy basic stuff?
It's lovely to visit but it's not that great to move there - for social and environmental reasons. Hawai'i is overcrowded and many native people as well as locals who were born and grew up there have to leave the islands because of how expensive real estate and rent has become :( It also has huge implications for the environment and natural resources. More Native Hawaiians live outside of the islands than on them - how sad it would be if there were no Hawaiians in the Hawaiian Islands :(
I totally agree with you that it is so sad that a lot of natives can not afford to live on the island anymore. I talk about that in my pros and cons video :) My friend she is half Hawaiian and we often talk about it. The biggest issue is that many people do not respect the land and leave their trash everywhere. Additionally the meat consumption is the biggest issue we are facing right now when it comes to sustainability . Have a great day :) MAHALO
I don't feel Big Island is very populated, and that's kind of the story of... every city, everywhere... the planet will grow to over 9 billion in my life time, which means social issues will be getting worse no matter where you are.
The average price for a home in Hawaii is $750,000. Most of the local jobs pay poorly...So you need a six figure salary already lined up there or be a millionaire... otherwise you may find yourself joining the THOUSANDS of homeless people in Hawaii.
Hi, I want to move to Hawaii as foreigner. I've been living in London and I'm trying to find an exchange High School Program or anything like that. To tell the truth it's really expensive. But my question is that can I find an host family for me and then find an public school near to my host faimily? Is it possible? Because I can get a visa if I have a work or language school or something. But private schools are really expensive. So if I find a host family then I can apply for a public school or not? If I can't, will you tell me any programs or opportunities which can help me? Which doesn't take lots of money. Thank you in advance.
I’m 14 my parents are divorced my dad lives 4 hours away from me and I live with my mom. My mom really wants to move to Hawaii (as she used to work on oahu as a nurse) I have three other siblings and I really want to move to Hawaii someday my dad doesn’t want us to move thought how do you suggest I get there in five years or so (jobs money etc)

Hey! I was wondering, how do you afford a living in Hawaii?
Hahaha I'm from Germany as well and I wanna move to Hawaii too
What if I apply to citizenship, to be an American citizen..?
I need to go on vacation there before I make a decision. Guess I have to go for a working visa (the hard way) because I am already graduated.
Nice song. I need to find a way so I can finally be free of barometric pressure migraines.
Hey cool! Ich bin auch aus Deutschland und würde gerne mal nach Hawaii. Ich habe dich gerade gefunden und bin gespannt auf deine Videos. 😊

Become a Nurse like your mom! There are so many jobs for nurses here, all over, it's a highly in demand job.
Do you live alone ? And does it get lonely ?
2:25 is there a shark or something in the water (top left)??
