I’m a former Student of Southern. I was there for this battle at stadium I was saying that we won this battle clearly but after watching this clip I think I’m going to have to change my stance on this battle. I think JSU got us by and edge. We were louder but JSU is clearer than us.
I really enjoyed the change of pace from both bands… it’s refreshing and I think it’s a strategic move by both organizations to display something different to the masses and the youngsters!
Man tbh, the whole battle from zero to 5th was a tie only because it’s early in the season and both bands haven’t built the wind to crank ALL GAME like they are known from. This coming from a Boom fan. I’m definitely excited to see both bands crank on everybody else for the remainder of the season. S/O to theto Boom and Juke. Two juggernauts for sure.
I agree with the tie because they both was good & clean. & Its just week 3 i feel bad for the nexts opponents for both bands because su & js who about to eat them up.. but on the real su was more entertaining 1st & 5th quarter

I agree, both had their moments. I didn’t like neither of the field shows, but the field dance, I gave to the Dolls. I like the modern, jazz, hip hop flare.

@StevenHoliday I wish I was in the studio to see or hear what you are laughing at. Great score card. I would have scored JSU lower on the "Blue Gangsta" song. You gave them a 4, but I was thinking 3. The tempo was off and the song was a bit muddled through in the middle towards the end (to me). I LOVE that song and listened to both versions on the Xscape album (MJ's original and Timberland's redone version). It just wasn't right. Other than that, we were on the same page throughout. Keep it coming.
You just tryna give su the dub we might as well score su 1st song a 3 due to the tempo issues in the tubas and on that other song we might as well score su lower due to the Drumline coming in early and then we also might as well score that song where su btones died out mid phrase even lower

The BOOM did slaughter them like they did twice last year but it definitely wasn’t a tie. Also I believe if Travis was there and we played a couple of rap tunes it would’ve widen that gap some more

Clearly this dude don’t know what he is talking about . All of Southern songs sound the same , no musicality , or technicality , or uniqueness . JSU gave you all of that and more . None of their songs sounded the same .
I thought this 5th was boring with a lot of dead tuba solos, however JSU did have better song selections. I just wish they stop playing slow songs with dead/ slow tempos and section solos 😅🥴💪🏽🫶🏽

Steven, not sure of your scoring methodology, but I totally disagreed with it. JSU executed their songs better than SU in every category: sound, intonation, technique, complexity balance, selection, and arrangement selection. You seemed biased for SU, which is to be expected since the target is on JSU’s back this year. JSU still won the battle…happy that you’re not an official judge!

Meh, this was just a crankfest. Most of it was overplayed and simple. I heard a few decent songs from each band. So yeah ultimately a tie. I give the field to SU…as well as the dolls killed it on the field.

He actually scored JSU twice for the same song earlier in the video. He scored it 4 the first time and 5 the second. So it balances out.
