Barbara announced her retirement two weeks ago; it is truly the end of an era. l fell in love with her when my aunt took me to see "She Loves Me" when l was 12, in 1963. l have since seen her in concert in England and the US about 20 times. There is nobody else who will ever come close to the beauty of voice and skill at "acting a song" that this woman has.
Not only does she have an incredible voice, but also great technique...we are listening to years of hard work and discipline coupled with good ol' God given talent.
If the USA had recognized "Living National Treasures," Barbara Cook would be on top of the list. Her talent, her humility, her generosity, and her kindness are mind boggling.
I think this is the better version, just a little bit fresher. But it really doesn't matter because Barbara Cook is one of the rare singers (late Judy Garland, Barbara Streisand, Frank Sinatra) whose interpretive powers simply made them greater than any of their peers. Quite simply she has almost no equals!
She just naturally has it all: a true and authentic voice that always hits its mark. There is no one better, a true classic stage voice.

Later performances of this song are wonderful but this one has a freshness that comes from the newness to her repetory. This is P R I C E L E S S !
I have this taped from PBS, but I haven't seen it in years. Thanks for posting.
