A crazy idea I got from reading comments. Put the sleeves in with Velcro that way you could change out your sleeves for different ones.

Like the old zip off sleeves that turned the jacket into a vest

My creative mind gets me to changing out the sleeves but not cropping it or fading the sleeves. Those extra steps made ALL the difference!!! You have such a gift♥️

Your comment got me to thinking that if you put the sleeves in with Velcro then you could change them.

Super cute. I'm "seeing" it with plaid sleeves, maybe distressed or bleached plaid. Thanks for the inspo.

I have my dad's 60 year old army jacket and have kept it for just such an inspiration as this. Really beautiful!

pretty piece. loving the colour combo and juxtaposition of masculine army/feminine lace. adding the jacket cuff might look cool. FYI: Oxi-Clean stain remover powder in a pot of boiling water is a great way to remove stains and yellowing out of antique linen.

I remember a trip to Paris in 2002 when I saw this combo of army green and rose pink for the first time (for me). It was an eye-opener to me. It was fun to see it pop up later on in everyday fashion. Like the French were decades before everyone else.

Love your channel. Reminds me of me when I was young. I was 92 lbs and nothing fit me. I had very little money. My gramma taught me to sew and before long I made all my clothes. If someone asked if I made it, I never wore it again! I didn’t want people to know I had to make my own clothes. But learned so many cool things and developed great skills. I’m 70 now and still sew a lot of my own clothes and home decor! A shame many don’t know how to sew today, don’t you think??

Oh my! Why am I doing here? Feeding my curiosity of course!!! I am 77 years young. I was born before my dad got home from WWII. Yup, a cute 1 month old. I have his army jacket hanging in my closet. Maybe I should embellish and wear!? I have done crazy things with denim jackets. Ok. Thinking. I really like your videos. The best!!!!

sewing on the original cuffs (or making them out of the sleeves for several sets of cuffs) would pull it all together. Didn't like it cropped particularly, but that's personal taste. This would be a fabulous way of utilising the body of the jacket with interchangeable sleeves, using the cuffs to tie it all together.

    • @TheDIYDesigner

totally! This jacket doesn't really have cuffs but I do think that would be awesome on a jacket that does!

Super inspiring! You did it again! Such a fun look! Can’t wait to try this for an autumn/winter piece. Too hot here. Anyway, quick execution question about the minutia of the sewing part. Did you use a heavy duty needle? The jacket seam must have been thick, so, did you sew slow? Thank you again for sharing your genius

I love this and can't wait to try it out. **I would also love to know how to add sleeves to raglan shirts/dresses (not T-shirt or stretch fabric) I would like to put sleeves similar to what you've done into a sleeveless halter/raglan top or dress - because I hate my arms and need to cover them and prefer crocheted or Brioderie Anglaise fabric sleeves so they are cool to wear in the hot Australian summer... *and would love to know how to alter pants when you've got a flat bum..... I understand you don't have a flat bum but wondered if you have a Tips anyway (maybe you have a friend with a flatbottom LOL!).😅i really enjoy your videos thank you!!!
