    I was there in the mid-1980s. As we walked out from the house to the building where his gold records were his palomino was in the pasture. One thing I took away from the visit was that he was a country boy at heart as his taste was not very sophisticated. Thanks for sharing, it was nice to see it again.

    • @TheGraveyardChannel
      @TheGraveyardChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      so true. i read that graceland used to be a farm out in the middle of nowhere when he bought it and then the city grew up around it. i bet the tour has changed a lot since the '80s, but at least the horses are still there. thanks, sg!

    Steve, I read a great book once on Elvis. It was written by an African American woman who worked as a maid for him. There were several maids at all times. Her story was eloquent, heartwarming, beautiful. I ended up reading 4 more books on him. Definitely on my bucket list. The book made me fall in love w Elvis, so to speak…lol. Such a kind and generous man taken way to early…

    What I was impressed with the walls full of checks he wrote for different charities he supported. Blew my mind.

      yes, it was impressive. I didn't even include the museum/memorabilia section of the tour. I didn't want the video to be too long and wanted to leave something as a surprise to viewers who haven't been there yet. thanks, susan!

    Omg!! it's so sad how they turned Elvis' memory into some Disneyesque attraction. I bet he would never approve of all that. I enjoyed the vlog alot, but the price gouging is sad. Have a wonderful trip and safe travels 💕

      i didn't mean to make it sound like that. it really was worth the money and they really did a great job with the tour and the grounds. and for fans, it really is a mecca. i think elvis would have got a kick out of it. i'm sure it's very expensive to maintain. a $6 brownie is a bit over the top, though :-) thanks fg!

      I know how you feel but without the money from the tourist that help pay the property taxes and to help keep it up they would had shut it down.elvis died way to soon the colonel ripped elvis off had not el vis father let Priscilla take over Graceland would went broke..like her or. Not she saved Graceland from going bankrupt. Colonel was a greddy man..it would been shame to hAve lost it.im sure it cost a lot to keep it up so we all our priscially a big thank you for saving graceland. Up stairs off limit but its historical place and elvis would wanted lisa Marie to have it. At time of his passing she was too young wouldn't known what to do or how to manage it. It would been lost. Vernon knew lisa would save it and she did. Be sad to lose this its timeless. Hope it be there for lisa children and grand children. Love and postivity..neita james

      @@TheGraveyardChannel your presentation was on point. The atmosphere and prices are astronomical. I guarantee it is listed as "non-profit". I love art history but it truly has its downsides. Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication. I appreciate it

    • @pattin2621
      @pattin2621 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree, it's a bit pricey, but honestly? It brings money to that area which is pretty poor. To think that Elvis was almost broke when he passed away. Taxes alone would have been hard to keep up with nothing coming in. I went for the first time last year and I am heading there again in a few months. If you are a fan of Elvis? You should at least visit once. It is a pretty special place.

    Thanks for another interesting video. I was a big fan of Elvis and still remember the day I heard he had died. It was about 7:30am here in Sydney Australia and I was getting ready for work when it came on the radio. I sent a sympathy card to his family, just addressed t to Graceland, Elvis Presley Boulevarde, Memphis Tennessee. Several months later I received a small thank you card from the family. It was a small preprinted card that they probably sent out by the thousands, but I thought it was so nice to acknowledge cards from his fans that way. I think he and his whole family loved his fans. It’s a place I would love to visit but probably won’t get the chance, so thanks for showing it to we people who are so far away.

    Welcome to Graceland!!! They have really expanded the last couple of years.
    Elvis was driving thru Memphis one afternoon and saw 2 lions in front of a house, he stopped and ask the owner if he would sell them. They’ve been standing guard ever since. Elvis was originally buried in a crypt with his mother but not long after Elvis died a couple of knot-heads tried to steal his body, so Mr. Vernon had Elvis and Mrs. Gladys moved to Graceland.
    What’s your favorite Elvis film? Mine is Charro!!! TC⚡️B

    Wow Steve! I never realized it was so disney-like. I love how they kind of keep you trapped in a concession stand and gift shop before you get to go to the mansion. 6 + dollars for a brownie? I was surprised the postcards were so cheap. I love how you showed that photo booth. Those were very popular for so many years. I also love how you mentioned how the color green was so popular in the 60s. I remember my neighbor having an avocado green refrigerator... LOL. The one thing I noticed from your video is that the crowd is all older for obvious reasons. I once read that the future of a place like Graceland will go downhill because many young people are not interested in Elvis or many other things that baby boomers find appealing.. What do you think the future of Graceland will be? Thanks again Steve will see you later!

      that might be why they are expanding, so they can have concerts for younger people in the future and make money doing other things, too. when these younger people get older, they will probably still visit though, because it will bring back good memories of their parents and grandparents. and I think elvis is so universal, that like james dean, he will be popular forever. james dean would be in his 80s now and he is still getting tons of young visitors to his grave every day. interesting to think about. thanks, alexander.

    Thank you for informing us of the cost to visit Graceland. I'm sure Elvis never knew he would be making more money dead than alive! This was a very informative video with many beautiful and interesting scenes. Continued safe travels.

    Beautiful video Steve. Thanks! We drove through Memphis once when I was 12 years old , Elvis was still living there. Maybe we should’ve stopped in. ...? It’s funny you mention Chubby Checker. We saw him once at Disneyland performing. He was really great.

      i bet Memphis has changed a lot since then :-) I think the first record I ever bought was chubby checker's "the twist". so cool to see that he's still performing. thanks, fts!

    I’ve never been to Graceland but want to go. Surprised at how not large the mansion is. I saw the wings on each end but the main house is not really that large. The kitchen may have been state-of-the-art in the 70’s but nothing special compared to most new homes today. Surprised at its size. The indoor “shooting range” is cool. Very good video Steve as always.

    • @TheGraveyardChannel
      @TheGraveyardChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hadn't even noticed the size, but you're right. it's definitely not a cold mega mansion. it feels like a real, lived in home. I was surprised at how dark the rooms are. some people like the cave-like feel. thanks, james!

    I visited Graceland back in the early 80s. The entire tour was about $25.00 and it included his gold record room, his performing clothes (jumpsuits) room, the garage with his massive car collection, his gun collection, and so much more. There was no photography inside the house at all. Anywhere outside was ok. Yes, he had horses then too and beautifully maintained pastures. If I remember correctly, the upstairs of the house was not accessible as the tour guide told us Priscilla Presley still lived there and she was the Estate Manager of Graceland. It was a great tour and there were hundreds of people on the tour. The gift shop was much smaller and I don't recall any restaurants then. It's sad Elvis died so tragically and he did serve a few years in the Army after being drafted. By the way, They told us Elvis was a Deputy Sheriff in the Memphis Sheriff's office. You did a great job with your video and narration. Thanks.

    So glad you was able to visit Graceland! Now my friend, if I had told you all that you was in for visiting Graceland, then it wouldn't have been much of a surprise! Tour prices haven't gone up that much since the last time I visited.
    I am doing a little better each day and seem to be getting stronger too, so that's a plus. I am still very sorry that we was able to meet up during your time here in Tulsa, but it just wasn't meant to be and I glad that you didn't come to the hospital while I was there, but glad you made it to one of the cemeteries anyway on your own.
    Take care my friend and thanks for the memory lane at Graceland.

    Wow.... that was soooo interesting! I have never been to Graceland and had no idea it was so beautiful (except for that jungle room.....what was he thinking?) I always thought it was just the house. I had no idea that he had so much land with it. And I was really surprised by the grave sites, mostly the location and how it was laid out. Disappointed at the “amusement park” atmosphere. I almost fell off my chair when I saw the price on the brownie. Lol. Another great video! Thanks Steve 🙂

    Thank you so much Steve for visiting the mansion at Graceland. Thanks for sharing a video of these incredible places around the mansion. I would really love to get enough money together and get my chance to get to Memphis and visit the mansion and gift shops , The Lisa Marie airplane. Many other ares of the property. I am so afraid that I won't get my chance. We were supposed to go this may, but that plan fell thru due to lack of enough cash and work hours were cut back from my husband's job. I just pray that the Lord has it in his plan to let me visit at least once before I get too old . Well thanks again for sharing . Have a blessed night Steve. And God bless you.. ☺😇

    Thank you Steve. Really interesting video. I have never looked at pictures of Graceland before watching your video. Love the outdoor areas...especially stables. And the front entrance...has a very peaceful feeling. Glad traffic from street isn't audible. Interesting personal fact...my name is Lisa Marie and I was born a few months before Lisa Marie Presley. Many times during my childhood, people would ask me if my parents were Elvis fans.😊
