This video was at the perfect time. I've got 150 gallon African cichlid tank with a rockscape in a few nice sized pieces of spider wood, and been wondering about what to plant it with. So this video is right on time George.
While this tank looks amazing, I do think the number of plants are excessive for Malawi. I've added a few accent plants to the hardscape of my 75 gallon mbuna tank. Also, keep in mind this is a demonstration tank. The size is ideal for that purpose.
It is not overstocked and the Mbuna cichlids will love the more hiding spots the plants will create but it is NOT how their natural habitat looks. It is mostly just rocks with hiding spots in the wild. Mbuna tanks are usually slightly overstocked to reduce aggression.
Don't see many plants in lake Malawi habitat videos..but I have seen one...a native dwarf Vallisneria that's interesting in it has wide leaves, that sort of fan out and it seems to stay 6" or so.
In my experience I tried to keep anubias with Labidochromis caeruleus but they ate all new leaves....I wish you to be more lucky with those fish George!
In some tanks I've had reasonable luck keeping these two together but mostly they just end up turning anubias to rhizome. The only plant I've had constant luck keeping with Malawi is a 70 cm very hardy, green plant I don't know the name of that look similar to Aponogeton boivinianus.
Hello everyone, I have a Malawi aquarium and I introduced about 20 anubias thinking it was a solid plant for africans. My yellow labs and red zebras have destroyed them all.. Now I don’t know if Saulosi are less likely to attack plants but in my situation it was a waste of money.. It looked stunning at first tho 😅 I hope we can have an update video in a few month of these plants
I must say that this tank looks absolutely stunning 🙌🏻 so lush and green all over with that brilliant scape design 😃 well done mate!! I struggle to find a good shop to buy my plants as I only buy Tropica plants😁 a bit pricey but well worth it🙌🏻
Looks stunning George!! Would like to see a video just showing loads of different easy planes medium plant and hard plants like go for a video with easy fast growing plants slow growing easy plants just to help with plants some people might not know of 🤷♂️
I know this is an old video, but will this setup work for a Juwel Lido 200 (about the same size) but with 4 females and 2 males ? So they have some more space.
Hi. I have anubias nana barteri and petite. I also have java fern narrow leaf on my 50 gal tank. Do i need to put fertilizers in there? If so whats ferts should i use?
Looks great. Wish I had real plants in my tank still. It looked great but my African cichlids ripped the leaves up on my anubias batarie and petite nana.
I got a good question, I've been trying to google this but there really isn't much about what are the least or even peaceful cichlids? i really would like to buy a pair but i do have guppys and I've heard they will kill all my guppyes but i also know there is some cichlids that are less aggressive and I'm looking for the peaceful ones that will live in a community, recently got a 29Gal going to set it up soon.
No cichlid is peaceful.... They will slaughter your guppies. They are also fish hunters. So if they grow bigger than your guppies (if they somehow survive), they will certainly eat them.

Be interesting to see how the plants hold up as these fish grow.
Those large leaves look stunning.
i dont know about Malawi tanks, but it looks a lil bit small for it? i think the Malawi Scape looked better without plants ^^
Nah I think they’re both liit
agree, also the high GH would be challenging for plants, no idea why they choose that tank.

2:00 please tell me what rock are you using?
how is this tank now? can you make an update for this tank?
What are the dimensions of the tank ?
Será que ele conseguiu manter a qualidade das plantas?
Could you give some tips from South American cichlids if possible. I guess maybe the same as the Malawi cichlid.
What is the size of the tank please? Greetings from Costa Rica
Which type of rock are these?

It looked soo much better without the plans!
Good video george
Are you using co2 in this tank?
Hi Nick, yes we are.
Did you keep this planted tank? Hiw are the plants holding up with the cichlids? Were they destroyed?
Hi. The plants are alive and well, they haven't been taken out by the fish.
I need a tropica tee! Looks sick!
Magnifique combien de litres fait cette aquarium

Hi. You can have a look at tropica.com/en/plant-care/liquid-fertilisers/premium-nutrition/ for more info on the fertilizers.
@@TropicaAquariumPlants thank you!!!!
my aquarium with Malawian cichlids has a size of 2.1x0.85x0.75
Looks great. Wish I had real plants in my tank still. It looked great but my African cichlids ripped the leaves up on my anubias batarie and petite nana.
Sorry to hear that, we'll soon upload an update on the tank and some tips.
How big is the tank?
Hi, the tank is about 200l.
Mbunnnnasss are awesome
I want to buy malawi cichlids...from tanzania

Do you dose liquid carbon in this tank?
We only use gas based CO2 systems as real liquid CO2 requires very specific conditions to be created and the alternatives aren't very reliable.
What the substrate on your tank?
Hi Geraldo, in this tank we only used some gravel.
Great Video, but 30 Years to late. 😉👍
Cool Aquarium and Fish.👍👍👍👍
George, please bring back the "layout" videos. No changes to the music or presentation, just more new layouts. 🙏🙏🙏
Don’t they eat the plants???
They seem to do well with anubias.
SOS!!!! What kind of plants does the cichlid not eat in the aquarium?
Malasi chilchid has best colour its like marine fish
African cichlids should live in slightly alkaline water
Ya they will pull those straight out lol hope they don't cuz looks great but hmmm
Reasonable concerns Craig, so far so good but we'll come with an update soon.
@@TropicaAquariumPlants I'd love to see if they don't haha fingers crossed
Doesn't look natural at all with mbuna. Your fish also look to be hanging on surface.
No plants, pls
Just don’t fit with the fishes
Plants ruin a Malawi rockscape
Sorry but a big NO
Why is that Graham?
