WR 400 weather radio sounds cool
You didn’t mention one important feature. This radio has S.A.M.E. Technology, which allows you to input your specific county code to get localized alerts. This minimizes the number of alerts you receive so it’s not going bonkers with every storm. Just what affects *your* area if that’s all you want.

If anyone is wondering I can hear alerts from Buffalo and Binghamton, yes I can on WXL31, WZ2356, and KHA53, the stations I can hear.
He actually did mention the same capabilities... Albeit briefly... As far as the locations settings were the same as any other weather radio single location multiple location all location... When he talked about that part that's what he was referencing...

Have a Midland 74-200 that’s been going strong for 20+ years now and I may have to upgrade to this one. I’ve messed with the WR300 and wasn’t really seeing much of an advantage to going with that one but this one is just more sleek. I like the fact that it uses AA batteries over the 9V too. May just get it.

My WR400 is four years old now. Every two weeks the AA batteries die. Wall wart is supplying radio 5.2 volts and power never goes out here. Any ideas why the batteries are being discharged when wall wart is providing power constantly?
how long do the batteries last for on average without the wall adapter?

One thing I noticed that was glossed over was the default times the dual alarm functions. Can anyone confirm if 6:00 AM for alarm 1 and 8:05 AM for alarm 2 are the default times, or does it vary for each radio individually?

Was the alert test on full volume thats what I'm wondering how loud the alert is at full volume can someone answer that for me
theres no option to adjust the siren volume on a WR-400
as for how "loud" it is the best i can say to that is that its at least loud enough to wake you up
Imagine if you accidentally put Severe Thunderstorm warning in you're area accidently and came up. But all people in you're area is mad at you for posting a false alarm.

Would this radio give you a warning in case of a nuclear attack?
Yes, assuming government authorities detected the attack before it occurred and were able to issue a warning message. That would be issued with either the CDW (Civil Danger Warning) or EAN (National Emergency Message) codes.

I would like to hear about the batteries and backup power. And I'm guessing you can just receive the warnings you choose? Like winter storms, blizzards and tornados? I hope that's the case. I saw you chose to get all types of warnings so I'm guessing you can chose just some types or "all."

So if you set the weather alerts off you won’t get any even if they are warnings?
You still get some warnings such as tornado warnings and civil danger warnings

Where do you enter the code to make the storm surge watch and warning yourself? On the radio? I have an older version on the WR400 and it doesn't have the storm surge watch and warning or the extreme wind warning. If you can't add it to the radio what version is yours?
on every wr-400, you can't add in custom alerts like you can on the WR-300, 74-210, and sangean CL-100. if a storm surge watch/warning, or an extreme wind warning gets issued, it’ll activate for an unrecognized warning/watch. of course, this depends on what version your WR-400 is. if you have a WR-400 that doesn’t have storm surge warning/watch nor extreme wind warning in the alert blocking (SET ALERTS section), your WR-400 is a v1. the v2s and v3s, however, do have those 3 alerts programmed into it (and unlike the v1 and v2, the v3 has two additional codes: blue alert, and snow squall warning)

@@jukingeo It would depend upon the type of battery, ie. rechargeable or alkaline, what level of charge, volume level, etc., so hard to determine.

How do you add new alert codes to the radio?
You can't add new codes, you can only disable ones you do not want to alert. Some, according to the manual, cannot be disabled.

I just recieved my 1st Alert if a Advisory today but I did not get anything scrolling on the bottom of the screen where the
Alphanumeric Message should be. Is there anything I need to turn on to see the Message at the botton of the screen? Thanks Steve.

i get weekly tests every wednesday morning at around 11:03 am-11:40 am edt (unless there is severe weather threatening the area)

I own this radio, and you don't need to put in the SAME code, you just have to plug in the name of the county.

Sadly it has a generic Micro-USB cable. While convenient due to having dozens of spares, I worry about potential damage using cheap-a## bricks/cables
Indeed, you could however get a magnet cable which saves you from plugging and unplugging the cable into the port over and over

It still does sound off for them though. It sounds off as Unrecognized Warning. I had it go off for me during a snow squall a year or 2 ago in the Buffalo NY suburbs where I live.
Also, I just realized. It's funny how it goes off for those, but not all the time for lakeshore flood, high wind, and wind chill warnings. Or not at all for lakeshore flood watches, advisories, high wind and wind chill watched, and I bet a lot more, including the all-too-common special weather statement, all of which are programmed into the radios, but for some reason never go off. I know it's not the radio's issue because I have 3 that sound an alarm, 2 that have color coded alarms and 1 that doesn't, the ER210, and also a pocket radio that doesn't have any alert. I never even hear the 3 gravelly beeps and the one long monotone beeps after, or the 3 short beeps after the alert message. None of the alerts I mentioned (besides the warnings which do go off but are inconsistent) ever broadcast immediately as they are issued...that doesn't make any sense since all those alerts are programmed into the radios for a reason.
@@ARandomInternetUser08 don't radios also activate the SVS alert (severe weather statement) for snow squall warning, even for the newer radios like the wr-400?

what would you expect? it does have tornado warning in it obviously, but it's just that on SET EVENTS, you can't see tornado warning in it, meaning that it's enabled by default and you can't be able to disable it.
It doesn't seem all that much different than my WR-120 🤷🏻♂

in my opinion, you might want to get your own wr-400 (or at least ask your parents for one) rather than just putting in your home address and expect spccranford1056 himself to come to your house and bring it to you 👍
