I almost chose that type of ship as my first duty station after A-school. Ticonderoga (first in it's class) - I went with an older ship because half of my service would have been testing and fixing design faults. Good ships though. The pyramid shape is actually partly stealth, and partly to house stationary radar antenna arrays. You notice that all of the weapons are inside of the hull shape, and no rotating radar arrays.

@@pandi9693 Largest loss of life and equipment for the US Navy were a hurricane and a cyclone. Carriers, cruisers and battleships unscathed. Except the aircraft parked on the flight deck (there was room for them in the hanger) got washed overboard. All the carriers involved were able to launch aircraft after the storm. Legendary (& verified) 100 ft high rogue waves hitting the carrier broadside would probably be bad.

@@pandi9693 Part of my point was Russian warships never leave port far enough to ever encounter a Hurricane/Cyclone, equatorial Atlantic, Pacific, or Indian Oceans. Russian warships are untested.

The T45 Daring Class ships actually have a full load displacement of 9400 (metric) tonnes (9300 'long' (UK) tons / 10400 'short' (US) tons). In addition to the weapons fit outlined in the vid they carry either 2xAW159 Wildcat or 1xAW101 Merlin ASW Helicopters

The Kidd class destroyers were "Spruance class" US destroyers, most of these were originally US ships..
Actually, no. They were derived from the Spruance class but we're their own class, hence the name. They're not the same. I served on the USS Callaghan, DDG994.

One series was focused on ASW operations (DD) the others were just designed for missle operations (DDG) What you are implying is similar to saying the Iowa class ships weren't Battleships because they were retrofitted in the 80's and got missles so they must not be battleships anymore, they must be BBG's

Just a random note: I know pronunciation isn't as important as the ships themselves, but for future reference, the Sejong Daewang-class is pronounced seh-johng (long o, as in lone) deh-wahng (rhymes with long) (daewang translates to "the great" so that can be used instead).

The first picture of the Burke class is the USS Momsen DDG-92, pulling into Panama City Florida for commissioning. (I was on board at the time, and I'm a Plankowner on her)

@@shaunboden The Royal Navy uses the same self defense weapons as the US Navy, which is the Block 1B CIWS. My first ship carried 3 of them and my last two ships had one each.

The biggest ships in the RN are now the two super carriers , Queen Elizabeth and Prince Of Wales. As you know , they’re comparable to the Nimitz in size , but far newer and needing farm fewer sailors. I also share a surname with a Spruance class, which - being a former sonar operator and anti submarine warfare specialist - was to my great delight

Well, the Japanese classify their aircraft carriers as destroyers. So, the Zumwalts look decisively underweight when compared with the Japanese Izumo-class multi-purpose destroyers.
Only the Japanese are so brazen that their so-called "destroyers", if equipped with F-35 fighters, have actually reached aircraft carriers that have surpassed certain countries. And they still insist on calling them destroyers.

I served on the USS Newman K Perry DD 883 a GEARING - class destroyers in the late 1950s . we use to get a lot of Z-grams, and now they named a whole class of Destroyer after him. The stories I could tell, those were the days.
This list confuses me... Is it based on size or power? You list the Arligh-burk class weaker then the Kidd class, yet the kidd class has no where near the armament. Then states clones of the arleigh burke class for allied nations are better? Hence me being confused So is this list more based on size?

Everytime I see the Zumwalt-class destroyer the Star wars theme plays in my head.
You would think that, by todays technology standards, the military would have something besides the "now common" radar to track a 14ton ship in the ocean. Something like training a A.I. to use satellites to match exact shape like face recognition. Changing a ships shape so it blips smaller on radar just seems so old tech.
When almost everything on the list looks like an Arleigh Burke....

The Zumwalt being classifed as a Destroyer is pure semantics. The thing's a Cruiser, it's just that the Navy is to lazy to deal with the calssification. Pretty sure those Russian ships are also classified as light Cruisers
