360 Ride Through an Electron Beam Irradiator (360 0046 Stitch XHC)

  • Beam parameters: 3.6MeV, 5.3mA
    A gear 360 camera is shielded from x-ray and electron bombardment and sent through the Neobeam irradiator. There is a 5" diameter 1/8" thick lead "umbrella" over the camera to shield the camera from direct electron beam bombardment and a 1/8" spherical lead jacket around the gear 360 with cutouts for the lens. There is no lead glass shielding over the lenses so x-ray noise increases significantly near the beam.

      It depends on when you were a kid. If that was in the 1950's it is highly possible that an "Atomic Thrill Ride" existed somewhere. Just like the atomic physics sets for kids that contained uranium and a giger counter.

      It's safer and easier to control than radioactive sources, just cut the power and the radiation emissions is stopped.

    Why do the rocks keep glowing after they were exposed? And was the bright blue from the flat object just the camera wigging out or did ti glow too?

    • @weeardguy
      @weeardguy ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That could be fluorescence. Some precious stones glow for quite a significant time after being exposed to UV-light for instance. If you just shoot enough energy at some materials, they will react for minutes afterwards.
      The bright blue object really was glowing as far as I think, as the glow can also be seen reflecting on the scan horn housing in the upper part of the screen.

      +Darudestorm They would probably either die or suffer radiation sickness from the high energy x-rays and/or severe radiation burns from the electron beam either way you don't want to be exposed to or be anywhere near the electron beam because that amount of ionizing radiation would definitely increase your cancer risk if the other two effects don't get you.

    • @Anonyhouse

      Considering that the intensity of radiation in the beam is probably in the millions of Sv/h, you're probably going to be dead before you exit the other end of the conveyer belt... Fun :D
