Get Ready and (I Know) I'm Losing You were both covers of Temptation's songs but Rare Earth's versions were way more successful. Rare Earth was a phenomenal band in the studio and Live and as far as I know still holds the distinction of being the only all-white band signed by MOTOWN Records. Rare Earth's "Get Ready" is one of my all time favourite songs. One of my first albums, I think I got it in 1970. I listen to it usually every few months or so. Your review is awesome: you genuinely love the music and the people. It shows.
Peter Rivera had one of the most interesting voices in rock music at the time. The fact he was the drummer of the band on top of that amazing lead vocal is even more cool.

And don't forget Creedance Clearwater Revival's long version of "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" and Vanilla Fudge's "You Keep Me Hangin' On."
@@ujimajame4601 True! That CCR version of I Heard It Through The Grapevine was an epic 11 plus minutes. I used to recommend this song along with Peter Frampton's Do You Feel Like We Do? be played back to back for my DJ friends to use the restroom so that the music never stopped.
Yeah chicago ruined that song
Dude, sometime when you're just hangin' out, check out Rare Earth's official version of this song... over 21 minutes. It includes a pretty damn good, and very lengthy, drum solo. It was quite the thing in it's day. Still is.
Isn't that "I'm Losing You" "?
@@ChrisLawton66 Hi. I checked it out. The long version of Get Ready is 21 minutes, 30 seconds. I decided I should also check out I'm Losing You... another good song. It's right at 11 minutes. Happy 4th
Yep
I'm pretty sure there is a 21 minute cut of every Rare Earth song ; )
it was the temo's in 1966, Rare Earth added it to their concert list on the 70's
Oh dam. Your killing me Jamel! I just jumped up and started dancing in my bedroom! YES YES THE TEMPS DID IT FIRST BUT RARE EARTH ROCKED IT IT. U need tokcheck out the long version it has the best solo drum and guitar solos in the middle that jammmmmm ,, Peter rivera is wild ! Ohhh yeah...the extended version is the best 20 minutes of pure magic.
Damn this song is great, I’ve heard it a lot on classic rock radio... never knew the drummer was the singer, wow
Oh that voice!! And drumming at the same time.
Right!
Rare Earth's "Get Ready" is one of my all time favourite songs. One of my first albums, I think I got it in 1970. I listen to it usually every few months or so. Your review is awesome: you genuinely love the music and the people. It shows.
I love Rare Earth. Great reaction.
Personally, I love the long version of this song, by Rare Earth.
Who wouldn't like the long version of a song?
Peter Rivera had one of the most interesting voices in rock music at the time. The fact he was the drummer of the band on top of that amazing lead vocal is even more cool.
Peter Hoorelbeke(AKA Peter Rivera)along with Grand Funk's Don Brewer(also a drummer)were some of my favorite vocalists.
You must react to “The Band”. The Weight, I Shall Be Released, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, Don’t Do It.
Yes he needs to do that!
YESSSSSS !!!!
Another good one is by a dude named Lee Michaels..."Will you Be Happy or Will You Be Sad"...HE PLAYED THE HELL OUT OF THAT ORGAN !!!
A LEGEND !!
Another excellent tune is by Brian Auger and The Oblivion Express titled "Happiness is Just 'Round The Bend". It was a song that the R&B group the Stylistics (?) sung
AND HE WROTE THE LYRICS.
"It Makes No Difference" by The Band is my all-time favorite.
@@valerieneal2747 Lee Michaels "Do You Know What I Mean" is the greatest
I think it was 1970 when we were stationed at McConnell AFB in Wichita, Kansas. Coolest youth center of any air force base we ever went to. I remember hearing this song on the jukebox a LOT! Loved it then, and love it now. Never knew the drummer was the lead singer, which adds to the cool factor! Always enjoy your reaction videos... please keep them coming!
A great band with a great hit. Get ready is quite a song
I liked this just for the hair.
Get Ready" is a Motown song written by Smokey Robinson, which resulted in two hit records for the label: a U.S. No. 29 version by The Temptations in 1966, and a U.S. No.
Somthis man has been living under a rock!
Jamal got the Billy Preston "Will It Go Round in Circles" afro look going on! Ha ha
Right😅
There is so much GREAT music from decades past that have groove and feeling and emotion all mixed together. We need real music to come back.
Rare Earth does a 21:32 long album version that is pretty freaking amazing.
Jamal You got the short version, you need the long version its about 20 min.
Wow - I'll have to look that up. Thank you
I think 22 min
It an entire album side, I have a copy. The long version features a slow opening sax solo by member Gil Bridges, Most excellent!
@@jackndew2 I saw them do this song live outdoors in Miami as the sun was setting..!!
@@zztij Very cool, had to be incredible!
one of my fav rare earth tunes in a live album full of them. Smokey Robinson wrote and produced it for Motown and the Temps in 66, and Rare Earth covered it amazingly well in 70. Drummer and lead singer is so rare, and especially with so much soul...
"Get Ready" by the Temptations. And this is a very good cover.
They covered another Temptations song, “I Know I’m Losing You.” It’s cool because they add a psychedelic twist to it. A third version of “I Know I’m Losing You,” by Rod Stewart and The Small Faces, my favorite.
"I'm Losing You"...also done by the Temptations but Rare Earth put their own spin on it...
The Temptations originally recorded this, but it was lost among their other hits. Norman Winfield produced Rare Earth productions.
Whitfield didn't produce this.
that was a great concert, I was right in front of the stage.
Thank you for doing their cover of Get Ready (Temptations). You are uniting people by sharing your comments and kindness. We need this unity....God bless you.
Bro im Syrian and swedish. If I let my hair grow out it would look just like that. And Hell yeah the temptations did it first but this is the rock version.
as a fellow Swede, watch out your beard doesn't turn red on ya
@@viksox13 I got a few strands. Brown, Red, and white all mixed in
This was a genius move by Motown to sign Rare Earth. Although Rare Earth did cover Get Ready and I just want to Celebrate, they also had original songs. Check out Born to Wander. Sadly Rare Earth who was an amazing live band wasn’t filmed enough and there are very few clips of their performances.
This.
check out their version of " I'm losing you"
Saw them in concert at Weastern Michigan U. In Kalamazoo, Mi. Remember being surprised the drummer was the lead singer. A group called Sweat Hog opened. Debbie! Remember !?
Jamal you always pick the best stuff. Rock and Soul. This fer real. I love it. It is a remake of Smokey and the Mircales. one of my fav acts. love you channel.
In 1998 I hired the guy on tambourine. Great guy, he was a navy seal in Vietnam.
Rare Earth is an American soul band affiliated with Motown's Rare Earth record label (named after the band), which overcame racial profiling to prosper in the early 1970s decade. Although not the first white band signed to Motown, Rare Earth was the first big hit-making act signed by Motown that consisted only of white members.
Yes, this is a Temptations cover. They also did a cover of the Temptations "I'm Losing You". Rod Stewart and the Faces did a cover of the same song.
I love most all music. Typically I do not want to music stopped to have people comment.
However, your demeanor, your countenance, your smile, your sincerity always makes me smile... Can't have a bad day after listening to your show.
I just enjoy what you do.
I can't tell you how much I enjoy hearing these songs again, and seeing them through another person's eyes. These songs are all welded into my heart and I LOVE them!!!
Brother "J"; you listening to the best rock and roll of all times!!!!! Got to remember in these days most bands played for the joy and love of it...... That's why these songs are timeless. Love the "Fro"
MORE MORE MORE Rare Earth. Their "Ma" album is awesome, beginning to end. "Ma", "Smiling Faces", Papa Was a Rolling Stone"
@Tomato Lady Is "I'm Losing You" on that album too?
