Season 5 of The Walking Dead was already off to a bang by the time we got to the third episode. The Trailers made us believe that we were going to get this long, drawn out storyline of the group working with the Termites to go to Washington in search of a cure, but that’s not at all what happened. The first episode saw our group take their revenge and escape Terminus. Now on the road, they ran into Father Gabriel and took shelter in his church, though the Termites weren’t far behind them looking for their own form of revenge.

Love how Maggie got the line when Gabriel said “This is the lords house.” And Maggie replies “No it’s just 4 walls and a roof” especially since she came from a religious upbringing from her family and especially Hershel so her saying this just shows how much she’s lost faith in her beliefs.
Yes omg I was thinking this!!
That's exactly how I've always felt about that too.
I like how Maggie was just as shocked as the others when Rick kills Gareth but by the end she tries being badass lmao
Literally would’ve been better if anyone else said it, she sounded so forced and goofy.
@@kyleisbart197ikr, so forced and edgy
This season was peak Rick Grimes. Murder Jacket Rick will always hold a special place in our hearts
Just the way he kills people doesn’t hear them out just straight up murders them is awesome and you can see in his eyes something is broken or gone like I love that version of rick like even his beard and jacket I love and hopefully they bring him back in Rick and michonne
Forget rick for a min, Any one else, Remember when our characters interacted like real human beings, instead of desperately trying to imitate marvel, so now everyone is a pale comparison to there formative years... For a show primarily about death, it refuses to die, at first i enjoyed the new approach after rricks departure, but. Yes it has gone on too long now, andrew and dania will leave there souls for the performance, but story will be weak and extremely illogical
right!!
This comment deserves so many more likes than it got
This was Prime Rick. The beard, the jacket, the RICKtatorship. Oh how I miss it.
Glenn really did have that unspoken respect by everyone. He was really the soul of the walking dead. you nailed it.
Literally the one thing that doesn’t make season 5 the best season is the hospital arc
Yea…
The hospital arc was ok I liked it but it was drawn out and kinda stupid
I wouldn't put Season 1 to shame like that. It's pretty much perfection in my opinion.
Yeah I remember I stopped watching for a little while when those episodes aired
Hospital arc could've been good if it wasn't made pointless by Beth dying right at the end of it
Seth is a brilliant actor. And the way Father Gabriel changes during the apocalypse is amazing.
100% agree! Great character and actor!
❤️👍
Don’t forget that without this episode we would never have gotten the animated spinoff, Bob’s Burgers.
That tainted meat scene is one of the best in the whole show
Bob was a very interesting character that was better in the show than in the comics. Lawrence Gilliard Jr. is a great actor who really brought this character to life. Bob was probably the most philosophical and deepest thinker in Rick's group. This is detailed well when he has a conversation with Rick as they go on a supply run with Gabriel and Michonne. Bob tells Rick that it can't be like this all the time. He believes that there has to be more to life than just violent squabbles with other groups and scavenging for scraps. Rick says something like: "This is the world now, Bob." Bob cleverly replies: "No, this is a nightmare. And all nightmares end." These words are recalled by Rick and he hears them in Bob's voice when they get to the Alexandria-Safe Zone.
Episodes 1-3 and Episodes 12-16 of Season 5 are the absolute pinnacle of the entire Walking Dead show. These episodes were perfection and this was the peak
11 is one of my favorites
They were all good honestly
Nah I didn’t like them going to Alexandria and becoming soft. We should’ve seen a brutal fight between our group and the wolves then meet Morgan and go to Alexandria at the start of s6
@@Us3r739 absolute shit take. You only like the episodes with alot of action don't you
I like the episode also because Tyrese not long before that ended up choosing to forgive Carol for killing his girlfriend. Sasha on the other hand chose revenge for the people who hurt her boyfriend. I also have to say Tyrese’s death not long after this episode is my favorite character death.
would love a video on tyreese's death episode, or just tyreese as a character
@@rohanellis1234 for sure he was definitely one of my personal favorites and I think his character carried a similar message to what glenn carried but in my opinion with more peace and mercy towards others by his end.
@@mcgaming609 yea I think he's a really interesting character, for instance his scenes with the hammer massacre, his relationship with the girls and judith, and his juxtaposition against sasha
@@rohanellis1234 absolutely and his death scene confronting all of what he probably considered his failures believing he got beth killed because of his peaceful plan to get her back. The sisters who one was killed and the other had to die while on his and Carols watch. having to kill Bob, trusting the governor in the first place. Not letting Martin be proven right (guy he beats up from terminus). All them there the others not blaming him telling him it’s ok he can let go. The governor telling him he needed to step up and he failed because “he wasn’t willing to do what it took to earn his keep” and martin (the terminite) telling him the other choices he could’ve/should’ve taken and where he went wrong. I definitely believe this episode has to have the best death in The Walking Dead. I almost look at it as if It’s tyrese and his “angels” against his “demons” inevitably siding with his angels. Saying he knows who he is and he did the best he could do with what he had been given in that type world they live in. Saying he let Carol live because it’s not over. Saying he didn’t turn away and he listened to the news and did what he could to help claiming people like him can live. Tbh his speech in the episode is lowkey hype😂😂🙏
that episode with tyreese is top 5 in TWD
"We didn't want to waste the bullets."
If Clear is my favorite episode, then this is number 2, and pretty much tied for number one. Everything in this episode was just very well done. From the haunting atmosphere to Rick facing Gareth, I was not expecting it to be as brutal as it was. Maggie saying "It's just four walls and a roof." clearly shows someone who has not only lost her faith but has lost hope in a lot of things, especially after watching her father being murdered by the Governor and almost dying in Terminus. However, the thing that sells it for me is when Rick says "Besides, I already made you a promise." and just hacking the guy to pieces. And Tyrese, hiding in the office, seeing the brutality of it all, a man who tries not to be brutal himself, watching everyone, his sister included, murdering these folks, man it's just... such a great episode. Really encompasses how far the group has gone, the true survival of the fittest.
Season 5 Rick was borderline a psychopath, he was so violent and paranoid that he would seem like a villain for anyone outside of the group.
He actually is, no matter where he goes, destruction and dead always follows.
I hate it, its so true…. But at the same time, its the apocalypse, you find the person with the best morals and follow them, even though they may be terrifying and people may die. Because people WILL ALWAYS DIE.
@@ExpiredBakedBeanYou shouldn’t hate it. It’s human nature. That’s how we’re are gonna be if the world ends, we’re literally gonna be villains like Rick is.
Ehhh Aaron clearly didn’t see him that way
@@azoniarnl3362yea I’ve always said this. Granted it’s a show and he’s the mc but in universe it seems like wherever Rick and company go, shit goes down. Think abt all the groups/communities that have fallen after coming in contact with Rick for better or for worse
It's interesting to see Abraham and Rick develop in the show - you make a good point that he is one of the few if not only main characters who would disagree with Rick, but not be in an antagonistic role. In the comic, their relationship was somewhat similar, but Abraham ended up as much more of a right-hand-man to Rick, a role that Daryl typically took in the TV show, and even more interesting is that Robert Kirkman originally intended for Abraham to follow a similar path to Shane, but changed his mind later and believed that he made the right choice
Absolutely I don't see Abraham being the bad guy.
This is still hands down my favorite episode in the whole series.
Bob has a wholesome ending. Good man.
This is probably my favorite episode in the entire show, showing the absolute darkest sides of our favorite characters in a holy place. Just top teir stiff right there
TAINTED MEAT (RIP BOB) ... would have loved to see Rick & Abe (my fav TWD character) throw hands...the slaughter of the terminus folk though😬 (DESERVED).. terminus arc was over quickly but not mad at it IMO.. that Beth hospital arc 🙄🙄 invested too much time to end it like that.. great content 💯
That part when Rick is coming after Abraham is fantastic. Two Alphas squaring off. I haven’t seen these episodes in a long time, i forgot Bob was in the 82nd.
I would have wanted more from Gareth and the Hunters, and how Terminus operated, instead of those darn cops in Atlanta. I liked the idea of ideal people going very to a very dark place, and that big memorial room with the candles was interesting.
Church scene will always be one of the most Iconic moments in Walking Dead history.
would have loved to see more than 3 episodes of the terminus people but gotta say it was a great brutal end for them in this episode.
It would have been awesome to see a trilogy of terminus flashbacks. The initial forming of the stronghold (when they were essentially good people), when they got pillaged and took it back. And the 3rd would have been our groups interaction with them. Maybe not a perfect option but knowing we got a bunch of lame episodes at the hospital why not 😅
I truly loved this episode took place during the night and the team behind lights and cinematography pulled out to perfection with little they had. The bonfire at the beginning, casting ghostly shadows on the ruins around, blurred and distorted silhouettes chomping on poor Bob's leg. In the church, dim lights from fragments of candles, casting a haunting light on the group. That iconic scene with Rick ambushing the Termites is the actual terrifying part for me: from the dark shadows emerges inch by inch his Colt Python, then his eyes targeting the cannibals with the most menacing look.
Yes. This episode is masterfully done in all departments. Too bad it was followed by an unwanted and quite boring arc that was Beth's.
I LOVE this description!!!
That was damn poetic
Rick shot off Gareth’s fingers with a silenced pistol, not his python
For your next episode analysis can tot do “what happened and what’s going on” it was so artistically done and I think it’s one of the most underrated episodes
It is one of my favorite episodes because not only was it a amazing and sad death of tyreese, it was also a good sound off to the other people who died that season prior
@@stealthygaming4919Is that What Happened And What was Going On in that episode?
@@MegaManXPoweredUp im pretty sure yea
I would love to see a Story-Arc ranking at some point.
Yes, it would be long but could still be fun to talk about.
I lived how badass Rick was in this eoisode
Excellent episode, Gareth and the terminus cannibals are my second favourite villain. They don’t get a lot of screen time or get fleshed out a whole lot but they do a lot with what little they have
For another episode analysis could you do “The Same Boat” even though Rick was barely in this episode I think it changed the landscape of Carol and Maggie’s character within the show. Carol started to really feel bad for killing and Maggie started to go down that path of having no sympathy for killers or the Saviors as a whole. Also I think another video of you talking about episodes you think are severely overrated or severely underrated and your thoughts on that. I think that would be really cool.
Watching season 5 on tv back then was so great. Good times!
Twd s1-5 had amazing themes, that's what makes them the most loved, because it's not just mindless action
I really enjoyed that arc of season. Carol turned badass, and getting the termites back🎉 loved it. Saying goodbye to Bob 😢. Agreed about the whole Grady Memorial and Beth... Fluff was needed.😊
Best Episode of the show. Great death for a great character with a great climax to a great arc.
This is my favorite season of TWD and also, the finale who have been another good ending spot for the series with Rick and Morgan seeing each other again looping back to season 1 book-ending the series. Like season 8 is a great ending to the show. You should do a review of season 5
Great video man
I loved this story arc it was short sweet and perfect
Fear The Hunters is my favorite volume of the comics so I was hyped for this arc and they really pulled it off
I think season 5 is the best season as there are so many great moments like this in the season
Terminus was short and sweet. I personally find them the most terrifying group Rick and co. encountered not just because they’re cannibals but because of how normal and unassuming they seemed. Their whole pitch was wicked: lure people in to slaughter and harvest them. I’ve never cheered or agreed with Rick more than I did during that last little convo between him and Gareth. They were eating Bob’s leg in front of him and taunting him about it, they NEEDED to be dealt with. Rick saved SO much people by doing that when you think about it. Omg.
Also, Beth’s character was good for what she was there was nothing left for her, her arc was DONE. Seeing her progress so much just to die and just as Maggie got to the hospital at that, was TRAGIC. Y’all cheapen her death so much by not appreciating it for what it was and carrying on about it like it was some horrible decision that really impacted the show. Smh
Rick pissed off shooting into the trees is amazing and hilarious 😂😂
The amount of gruesomeness and brutality in this episode shouldve carried into later season much more
Man, I miss Abraham.
I loved this season of TWD, looking forward to your awesome video!
This episode is one of the best in the whole series
an infared scope wouldnt work against walkers because their bodies are cold
Literally just watched this episode as part of my rewatch of the series. Great episode, great video. Thanks Thrifty!
I love that you picked this episode dude. Enjoying the hell out of it.
Fantastic rundown and analysis. Keep it going!!
Love these vids so much thrifty thanks for all the work you put into them.
One thing I never understood about the fandom is how upset everyone got about Rick taking the fight to the Saviors but not when he took the fight to terminus. It was the exact same thing. They were just more impartial to Negan. To this day they still excuse his tyranny whilst holding the governor, terminus and all the other villains accountable. it's always been insane to me.
This was one of my favorites to this day, you hit the nail on the head. I'd recommend looking back at 18 Miles Out, it's another that not many look back on too much.
These 3 episodes did more than entire season 7 & 8 in my opinion.
I’m currently in process of doing a full rewatch from Season 1.
Man, it’s been years since I watched these week to week. Upon rewatch I’m reminded how much I love this show.
I’ve just got the Season 6 mid season premiere. That annoying little Sam and his fit mom have just died and Coral took a bullet to the eye from that stupid teenager Ron.
Literally loving it on the recent viewing. Season 6 is all over the space of a couple days hey.
Also, with Tales, it’d be good to see Terminus when they were good and helping people, and to see how the rapists come and take it over . It could do the arc of them winning their pad back and show us how they ended up starting to eat some fools.
As good as this conclusion was I wished the Terminus/Hunter arc lasted longer than it did. It would've saved us all from that abysmal Beth hospital arc. Smdh TWD was alright overall but had many missed opportunities to be one of the greatest shows of all time
Luv ur vids bro
This is my favorite episode of the show, hands down. Absolutely love the entire death scene of the Terminus members.
This was a solid episode.
I loved the ending on hope with Bob's death. He knows that Rick did some messed up stuff in a church, and the fact that he said "we can rebuild this world" is so hopeful. I also enjoyed the fact that he hid the bite from the group because then it would be about the end and he enjoyed the middle so much.
Truly this was the beginning of the end because we lost Bob. Soon after would be all the other cast members that made season 4 and 5 so good.
Just wanted to let you know I appreciate these videos so much! I started watchingn TWD for the first time at the beginning of 2023, so I like watching these and remember some if the best moment of the show!
this has always been one of my favourite twd episodes off all time the intro to Gabriel the end of the terminus arc and the killing of the final termites is also one of my favourite scenes in the whole show its extremely violent and it is top tier rick grimes keeping his promise to garret and making it extremely personal. there's also quite a few things i forgot like Abraham going against rick to leave the church. great video thrifty im looking forward to the next episode you cover
Love your content man
Keep up the walking dead videos my dude! Love listening to them
Man i really didn't know how good i had it, when i watched season 5 years ago. Especially second half of season 4 and first half of season 5 was just so damn good. Not counting the hospital episodes, those were so boring, i even skipped 1 or 2 episodes. Aside from that, 2014 was a great time to be a walking dead fan
Awesome video! I too love the mystery in this episode. Daryl and Carol missing right when Bob goes missing. Terminus is probably my favorite arc. I would love to hear your thoughts on 5.09. Tye's death episode. 18 Miles Out is another good one. Basically Rick giving Shane one last chance to straighten up.
"This is the God House"
"No, Its just four walls and a roof"
That is the moment that you realize that Twd is braving the high potential that he can in that season
Daryl also had a few confrontations with Rick. Cuffing Merle to a rooftop. Disagreement over blowing up the Sanctuary with dynamite. Etc.
That’s just brothers fighting though it doesn’t count
@@thethriftytypewriter "Chokeholds are illegal, a-hole."
"I already made you a promise" proceeds to gut Gareth with the red handled machete
Thank you Thrifty for another awesome Episode review/analysis. This might not be the right place to request another episode review but I’d like to see your review of Nebraska, the bar scene in particular that’s my favorite all-time scene in The Walking Dead and I’m pretty sure it’s Rick‘s first living human kills
This episode was brutal but all the people that read the comics know that it could have been worse
Bob got a better goodbye than Carl 😑
thanks for still making content about the walking dead, u are a gift for the community of TWD
Honestly just analyse every episode at this point 😂 love the breakdowns man
You’re videos help distract me from work and indulge in my imagination so thanks
Would like to see you cover season 5 episodes 8-10. Those back to back death episodes and the group pulling together at the end of 10 during that storm was one of my favorite moments in the show.
This was one of my favorite episodes
Just started watching the show and this is where I’m at. This show is CRAZY GOOD lol
You should make an episode analysis on season 11 episode 6 since its atleast in my opinion one of the scariest episode in the series. Love your videos keep up the good work.
I’d love to see you do videos for your favourite episode of each season and your favourite character from each season
I love your content bro
Honestly it was so unique having cannibal villains in a post apocalyptic show, I mean it makes sense
I like these videos a lot
I’d love to see your take on some more of the season 11 episodes, maybe Warlords, The Rotten Core, Trust or Acts of God.
Yeah I want to see his opinions on warlords and season 11 ep 9
I’d also love to see his take on S5/E12: Remember
lets go my favorite episode we love to see it
This is the best walking dead channel that I have seen
The ricktatorship era was mad fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
One of my favourite Episodes of the entire Series!!!
"No point in begging, right?"
"No..."
Would LOVE to see a video on
S10 E11 “Morning Star” seriously one of my favorites. Great video as always thrifty!!:)
something that i ahve always noticed that in the end of season 5 rick was the same type of outfit as shane same color shirt idk about the pants but I think it was a very good connection and representation of how much like shane rick has becom
The way they almost clash at 4:13 was so fucking good! it had me at the edge of my seat, when i watched it the first time. so fucking badass that they're both just like "okay" and its just a means to an end.
I would love if you covered some of the lowest rated episodes of the show like ‘Diverged’ or ‘Swear’ to analyse why people dislike them.
Tyrese was so good, wish he stayed longer
One of my favorites episodes
Yooo I just watched this episode on my rewatch. This was some peak kino
Something kind of nteresting I've noticed is that Bob, Tyreese and Sasha all had something to do with Rick's thoughts in his final episode.
-Tyreese is the one who He thanked for protecting Judith back at terminus, allowing him to reunite with her (His family, what he's looking for during the bridge scene)
-Sasha being a member of the team that sacrificed herself for the greater good (Like Rick was just about to do and I think the reason she shows up in his allucination on the first place)
-And Bob when about to die thanks him for showing him there was still good people in the world and they could rebuild It (Which is what Rick was trying to acomplish with the bridge, uniting the communities)
When I buy the membership I'll comment this in the most recent vid.
I'd love you to review the episode "Coda" and how it is as you said "a let down" for that plot but also how good of a character's last episode was, along with how Daryl says Tyreese's plan is better reminding Rick that they are not too far gone
I would love to hear ur thoughts on beths character whether it be just the hospital arc or the show overall. I feel like there was so much missed potential with her especially considering her character progression was really picking up before they cut it short (unsatisfyingly lol)
This is one of my all time favourite episodes of TWD. Great character development from all people, the way Rick is willing to do ANYTHING to protect his family! Murder jacket Rick is one of the best. I also enjoyed Daryl & Carol on their own. Bob was a fantastic person and I wish he didn’t die but I see why. Watching this for the first time early this year, I was more excited for Beth & Noah’s story, I hoped Beth would return to the group as a more mature and developed character but they killed her off
:( This is a great episode tho & I love your content!!
I really think you should make a video on the 2 Governor Focused episodes in Season 4. They are Atleast in my opinion 2 very underrated episodes that dont really get talked about.
Obviously, walkers wouldn't show up on an infrared scope: they are dead.
Hey Thrifty, I been rewatching TWD and I have just began s9 so far and I love it. I seen some major s9 moments like Rick's last episode, Jesus death, and the pike scene. But this time, i'm actually invested.
(I stopped around the time rick left)
I'm loving the whole "New World" thing that Rick is trying to build. But I know it ends up failing in the long run.
It would be cool if you could do an analysis on how the "New World" ended up failing, or if it even failed at all.
Season 10 is good with Alpha, Beta and The Whispers.
That's a great idea! I might just have to add it to the list!
Thanks for doing my🙂 suggestion. It's the best episode of The Walking Dead.
rick wasn't trying to shoot the termites, suppressive fire so everyone gets inside
