The NBA needs a correction. I know 65 game minimum can suck when you got a legit injury but way too many stars sitting out after people pay hard earned money to see
The list of players who played multiple 82 games is just fascinating and legendary...all are legends. GP and stockton, both are on my top 5 PGs of all time.
Let’s face it. Most guys that played 82 games never had long careers. If they did play 82 games, they were probably all stars that could count on getting a contract regardless.
65 games is a very low bar, cuz it means if you purchase a 500 dollar ticket, there is 20% chance that you wasted the money if you don’t see your player play. I have no problem with load management if they refund or partially refund tickets if they seat the stars.
Partial refund is a fair argument, though one would have to account for people/families having had to travel just to see their basketball idol... Still, a fair argument nonetheless.
Two years ago, Stephen A stated "availability is ability". I am glad he maintains that opinion. I agree with this view. I was watching MJ (undisputed GOAT) and I cant remember him complaining or crying (like Embiid or some others). I pay only half season NBA pass, that is what it is worth now.
Stephen A is dead on with his entire argument. I lived it the era of underpaid players. I watched it unfold. I watched the press push for revenue share and I watched them fight until they got it. Now the players give the finger to the fans while they sit out games whenever. It's horrible and disappointing. Nothing worse than paying 500 for tickets and hoping your players are going to play. The league had to force hands. Bravo and hopefully more will be done

If you lose those awards because you chose to sit out games early on purely for resting or ducking out matches you could have actually playerd? Then cry about it.
All the people saying the players are too skilled now must not realize compared to back then viewership is a joke why because people cant stand the no defence , always resting , 3 all the time game , travelling is legal now league.. This generation players will become a footnote in the history of the game..
I love the 65 game rule. Those who have paved the way forward for players to get paid generational wealth are sadly greedy and ungrateful. As a blue collar worker I would be crying and almost having a heart attack if I was getting that much money for dribbling a ball around
They will have to make some sort of a 75+ game rule where all players above this are eligible for all of the awards. There is bound to be some team that will start limiting one of their players to 19 minutes per game to avoid having to give them the super max contract as they miss out on personal awards. I know this is a stretch, but unless there is a rule like this, someone is going to go this route...
One good argument against the 65 rule is that the idea of "who will save you, if you dont let the soldiers that is tasked to save you, save themselves even for a bit" but then again, the point of the argument is against those horrendous miss-er of games.
Thank you Stephen A! 100% agree. As a Pacers fan I was bummed that Tyrese said what he said. These guys are getting paid astronomical amounts and need to be grateful and show it by not saying things like this out loud. I hope the tide turns against “load management” otherwise I’m afraid the NBA will lose its audience over time.
I agree 100% with Stephen. Not to mention, playing less games skews your numbers! Now instead of going through a rut where you’re less efficient for a few games you just decide to not play so it doesn’t affect the end results. I get that some people get injured, but if you’re playing so hard trying to get 40-50 ppg that you’re injuring yourself then you need to let the team carry some of the load and stop playing hero ball to get some meaningless regular season awards.
You just earned yourself another subscription sir. I could sit here and write an entire essay but all I am going to say is, I have never agreed with you more in my entire life. You are 100% correct. I pray Draymond hears this and wises up. I am sick of it. FANS are the reason they make so much money in the first place. Don't slap me in the face, I'm just looking for entertainment.
Its a great rule. You shouldnt be able to compete against another player for an award that has played 65 or more games while you've played 50 or less gtfoh. Youre getting paid a shit ton of money and fans pay to see these players period.
Let's flip the question because it keeps getting framed in a way which doesn't consider the effort of other players. Is it fair for players who play for 90%, even 100% of games during the regular season to compete with other players for all nba team selections as well as stat based awards, which are often simplified to per game averages, when those other players are able to rest in 20% or more games? Absolutely not. The line had to be drawn somewhere, 65 games it at that 80% mark, that is more than fair. I'm sick of players whining and complaining, it's only a hand few of players who do it, the star players, who have been coddled and pampered to a nauseating degree. You can take 1/5 of the season off, 17 games! Ontop of an all star break, on top of the summer break which is as many as 5 months! for half the league, while being paid millions to play a game.
Some guys will be screwed due to actual injuries. The main issue is that the contracts are linked to awards in such a large way. In my humble opinion the games requiremt and the contract can't be happening at the same time.
Preach on Kwahi! Folks constantly name these guys today as much better than previous players but it is never equated the lifestyle, science, and how it is a league more concerned with ratings (which means offense solely) than overall basketball. I'm not a Lebron fan but I credit him for what he's been able to do for so long. Many of guys want to play but their bodies won't allow them to. If you're resting, then of course your body is able to recover and perform at a peak level longer.
To be fair, I feel sorry for Haliburton. He did have a legit injury, and now he got screwed because the generation of players BEFORE him were so unprofessional and fucked things up so he is being penalized. Haliburton was not responsible on all the fucking load management, and those players who are responsible have already gotten the bag.
I’m all for the 65 game rule. The amount of times I went to see my favorite players play after slaving to get tickets. They didn’t play, I felt let down. Now I don’t go to games anymore
65 game rule is a definite must and a good thing. Imagine being that parent that can’t really afford to take their kids to see their favorite player play but you’ve managed to save up just to take your kids to one game and that favorite player is “resting.” How disappointed would you and your kids be? These are pros and they’re getting paid good money to play the sport that they love. So lace up and play for your fans.
Well, it would really be amasing if my boss told me: - Hey, let's sign a full time contract, but listen, you won't really have to come to work 52 weeks per year, only 41. 😂😂😂
@@johncarloflorentino And then my boss would add: -And don't worry too much about your meetings with clients, it's ok to skip them sometimes, they will come at another date... 🤣🤣🤣
I agree with just about everything SAS said but the game is not more physical now. Watch a game and actually pay attention to how much standing around there is. Akd as soon as a player shoots the ball the entire team is running back for defense (which they don’t actually play) without even attempting an offensive rebound. You see that ALL GAME LONG!!!
It's good. I played ball in the past and I dreamed of the day go to NBA from that stand point I can't sympathize. You got the dream you should wanna play every day. That's why In love Kobe. Yea you going 20 years you shedding off games to rest. Also you get paid Millions to practice balling all day to stay in shape and eat well??? Think about it regular folks pay to go to a gym after work and struggle to have time to eat well.
I agree. I believe NBA players should be allowed to take some games off as MLB does but not with the opposite conference games unless there is a serious injury. If healthy they must play all. They will be able to split road games or home games vs their in conference opponents in a four games season series or play at least one game on both road and home games in a three games season series.
This 65 game rule is for the higher end stars. They will get their full salary. But for the younger stars like year 1-4 players they would need too play the 65 minimum game requirement to be eligible for all nba 1st 2nd and 3rd teams which goes towards them being eligible for super max contracts. So basically if these young stars want that super max contract they will need too play the 65 plus games to qualify.
And no way the league is lowering the schedule 32 games, because that's almost half the income this league would lose annually, and that would only piss these brats off more.
I like the rule. It’s unfortunate that players will at times miss out due to genuine injuries, but there have been too many players who exploit the ‘load management’ theory and pick and choose when they want to play. Let’s face it - none of the players who would be in contention for these awards would ever sit out a playoff game would they?
NBA basketball used to be my favorite sport. What hurt NBA basketball was when they started guaranteeing all this money to the players. The work ethic of these young men are not the same back as those before them. These players are entitled and don’t want to work hard on their craft. I haven’t watched a basketball game since Kobe Bryant won his last championship.
Fans love it because we get to see our fav players actually play. Players hate it because they can't skip games if they wanted to. Sad reality of the NBA today but this rule was definitely needed and I hope the league doesn't change it because players are complaining.
Why you mentioned Kawhi?Like lebron hasnt load manage his whole career.20 seasons and lebron only played 3 full 82 season games..Now explain that?He went long time of his career not facing any injuries..And he only played three 82 game seasons
for the first 15 years of his career he averaged 76.2 games a year, and missed the 65 game threshold only once where he played 62 games. He is getting a pass because did not start missing a significant amount of time until his 16th year. Whether you agree with it or not, there is at least an fair argument that he has put his due in unlike Kawhi.
Hall-of-Famer Elvin Hayes played 16 years in the league and missed only nine games in his entire career! The Big E played the entire season (82-games), eight times! And, to top that off, he never played less than 80-games in a season.
I agree with everything Steven said except one thing-The game is tougher now than before but at the same time Technology and supplements have advanced as well. So there’s no excuse not to play 82 games. One other thing I’d like to point out is that there shouldn’t be no loyalty to the owners. This is something I learned the hard way.
Maybe its just because I grew up with Hockey but I really dont understand how NBA players think taking over 17 of your 82 game season off leading to a dq from the awards is a stupid rule. I get staying healthy and all that but its just an awful look for the league when the players are complaining about not being able to sit out a fifth of the season. Load management feels criminal when they do it as much as they do (There are exceptions of course, injury and older players being the main ones imo)
Never have I agreed with Stephen A aside from the Jordan vs Lebron debate with Shannon. This is brilliant. Preach and thank you for saying it! These brats are too entitled getting millions for sitting out games while us fans paying hundreds of dollars which totals to millions of earnings for the league yet we don't see our favorite players on the night of the game we have been waiting for. Some of us even fly across the continent just to watch these players yet they sit down because they are babies but now look at them they are working hard just as how they should!

I think all of us gets paid when we clock in and out for work. Our check is smaller if we miss days. We get bigger check if we work overtime.
If a player in this day and age plays all 82 they need to be recognized
65 game rule should absolutely count for awards, but not the money a player can get. Like let the owners decide themselves.
It goes both ways. All NBA selection also sometimes forces the owners to hand out ballooned contracts. Case in point: Jaylen Brown. So fair is fair.
@@ayoomisope6563facts
The owners dont want to payout for games missed so the owners are in board with the 65 game plan
@@schao7555 my point is that owners could be allowed to still give a max contract to players who they want but maybe got injured.
The NBA needs a correction. I know 65 game minimum can suck when you got a legit injury but way too many stars sitting out after people pay hard earned money to see
The indirect effect of modern boxer's zero loss mentality to high paying NBA players...
Kawhi hasn’t missed one game since they introduced the rule 😂
quite honestly tho i think it was a great change, Load Management was a damn travesty..
The list of players who played multiple 82 games is just fascinating and legendary...all are legends. GP and stockton, both are on my top 5 PGs of all time.
PREACH STEPHEN A!!!!!!
I have no problem with load management if they refund or partially refund tickets if they seat the stars.
yeah my first laker game, lebron decided to not play lol
Partial refund is a fair argument, though one would have to account for people/families having had to travel just to see their basketball idol... Still, a fair argument nonetheless.
Good . The players made the rule a thing. It’s sad they gotta force requirements
They should have a limit for how many games missed before the allstar game to even be in allstar in a allstar game.
If I get a 100 mil why would I care about MVP they need to stop paying them so much simple they don’t deserve it
I always wondered how Stockton's assists/steals records could seem so out of reach, but that 16 82 game seasons explains it pretty well.
I don’t know why u guys like hating on Steven a smith ..bro is S tier 💯😅
Because he doesn’t always agree with them.. some things I don’t like but he still the best
“Kawhi Lennit” 😂
13:28 that's checkmate 💯
Two years ago, Stephen A stated "availability is ability". I am glad he maintains that opinion. I agree with this view.
I was watching MJ (undisputed GOAT) and I cant remember him complaining or crying (like Embiid or some others).
I pay only half season NBA pass, that is what it is worth now.
He ate! Damn!
Wilbon 😂love it when he calls us knuckleheads 😄🇨🇦🇺🇸
Giving yourself an amen is wild 😂😂😂
All that money u got to pay and can't play 82 games
@@wittypoker They still get their damn money for sitting out games. They just don't get to qualify for awards which is 100% fair. You injured? Sit out and heal and keep receiving your pay check. But dont bitch about not getting awards
@@wittypoker No one is asking these players to worsen these injuries. They still get paid for sitting out but expecting to get additional awards while not even fulfilling a generous quota like this is beyond stupid. If you lose your opportunity because of legit injuries? Tough shit but thats life, you still get your guaranteed money.
Micheal Jordan had the longest load management of all time
Wasnt getting paid doe
@@jeannoel4535 exactly. No pay leave. Players shouldn't be paid for sitting out games
I love the 65 game rule. Those who have paved the way forward for players to get paid generational wealth are sadly greedy and ungrateful. As a blue collar worker I would be crying and almost having a heart attack if I was getting that much money for dribbling a ball around
You can't leave out LeFlop. He championed load management
*cornball*
the spurs were the first team to do it
@@Mostillist they absolutely did. LeFlop turned it into the norm once he saw them doing it. Allowed the midol to work on his cramps.
@@RexKwon i agree you aren't wrong but so did kawhi kyrie etc its a leagur wide issue glad its gone
Lebron played 75+ games for 14 seasons though. He's old, this Tyreese dude is 23 years old.
What happened to spotify? Why isn't he posting on there anymore?
They will have to make some sort of a 75+ game rule where all players above this are eligible for all of the awards. There is bound to be some team that will start limiting one of their players to 19 minutes per game to avoid having to give them the super max contract as they miss out on personal awards. I know this is a stretch, but unless there is a rule like this, someone is going to go this route...
Love this take by SAS today on First take and his podcast! Thank you thank you thank you😊
One good argument against the 65 rule is that the idea of "who will save you, if you dont let the soldiers that is tasked to save you, save themselves even for a bit"
but then again, the point of the argument is against those horrendous miss-er of games.
Sir, I Agree 100%, very well said.
Best rule!! We want to see those guys to dig in and be consistent!!
Yup. And you're still fully paid. 😂
@@johncarloflorentino And then my boss would add: -And don't worry too much about your meetings with clients, it's ok to skip them sometimes, they will come at another date... 🤣🤣🤣
Daaaaaang Stephen A. Masterful breakdown!! If i were a superstar in this league i would feel horrible after listening to this! Great job
This is one of his best takes I’ve heard in quite awhile.
Absolutely it's good. They're allowed to miss 17 games. If I miss 17 days of work I'd be Absolutely fired. NBA need to play 50 games
Salute Stephen A Smith 👏🏼
SAS has been saying something is coming down the pipeline for all these players taking days off the past 2 seasons
Stockton 16 seasons with 82 Games Played crazy
More defense and more travelling calls will make the game better imo
Never have I agreed with Stephen A aside from the Jordan vs Lebron debate with Shannon. This is brilliant. Preach and thank you for saying it! These brats are too entitled getting millions for sitting out games while us fans paying hundreds of dollars which totals to millions of earnings for the league yet we don't see our favorite players on the night of the game we have been waiting for. Some of us even fly across the continent just to watch these players yet they sit down because they are babies but now look at them they are working hard just as how they should!
