- I decided to join my first ever Game Jam: Shawcat's Game Jam 2024, and compete to make a game in 48 hours.
If you wanna play the game go to my itch page: DylanDev14. TH-cam won't let me post a link :(

the quality of this video is on another level! the addition of an avatar makes it so lively. great job on the game jam also
Thank you, I wasn’t too sure about the avatar, so that’s great to hear:)
More videos please!
Wow really cool video!
I like your way of explaining things, keep up the good work.
Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
Loved this video, good job on your first project!
I love your pixel art and your game looks amazing keep up the good work
Thanks for sharing, this was a really engaging and educational video. As someone who has only dabbled with game dev on and off since studying my degree years ago, I think finishing a game.. and in the time limit of a game jam is no mean feat. Congratulations😊
I’ve had a look at your other videos and you have a great, structured approach to learning new skills. This will serve you well whatever you do in later life.
Looking forward to seeing more of your game dev progress. I’m learning Godot again and it’s really inspiring to see your ideas come together.
@@straydogstrut115 Thank you, this is one of the kindest things someone has said to me:)
Good Job! Jams are a great way to learn new stuff. 🎉
I always love to watch how people approach making games while dealing with a timer. This was so entertaining!
nice video, I try to learn code and it's inspiring to see other people do so
Good job dude :D
Inspiring story and a great game! you have a promising future ahead of you
Thank you!
woah nice! This video kinda motivates me into trying to make some games myself
I recommend looking into it (no bias at all, lol)
Great vid,
the game looks amazing for a first jam
@@geomdev thank you, hopefully I can top this in the next game jam I do
was just debating joining my first game jam... this was really motivating!!
Trust me it’s worth it, just don’t over scope, and definitely don’t make my mistake, make sure you have a free schedule. Then you should be fine:)
I loved this video, keep it up!
I will try
hi! i just subbed, and this looks prety cool!
Thank you:)
Very nice Bro 👏 We should make a collab in the future!
Cool video! I never finished your game, I thought it was to hard... But I probably just have a skill issue😅
@@Foxert-Presentations lol yeah, I forgot to add checkpoints, sorry about that.
@@DylanDev14 Don`t worry, it is ok. You made it in 48 hours
nice
no way you only have 100 subs
im trying to learn gadot and become a dev to and your and other peoples videos give me the insperation to learn more
That’s amazing to hear, thank you
I was on this Jam, my game was the first one until I got banned for no reason. The fact that I made a dev log and my fowlers rate my game incredible high. Other participants think I use bot to vote for me on a free game Jam.
I played your game it was good
I’m sorry to to hear that, it’s always annoying when stuff like that happens. But as long as you keep making games you’ll be fine
Great vid!! Question though, at what point in your game dev journey did you believe you could do a game jam? I don’t think I work fast enough to do a jam yet.
So I only really started making progress with game dev in the past 5-6 months and I wasn’t actually planning on doing a game jam for another 3 or so months. But I saw that Shawcat was hosting one so I joined, so about 4-5 months in I completed my first game jam, if you wanna join one as well join a small one that’s just meant for fun, so even if you don’t submit, you still would’ve hopefully made a solid framework that you can continue building. Also how long have you been doing game dev?
In total, probably 5 months. I’ve been polishing basic mechanics of a regular platformer to learn the engine and workflow, but it feels like I’m so slow at it. I might try a jam soon, I’ve never spent more than 2 hours at a time developing. Plus I only have experience in platformers lol.
The time constraint of the game jam might push you work a little longer at a time, atleast that’s what it did for me. Also, maybe joining a longer game jam like a week long one may be a better option for you. So if you do compete in a jam I wish you good luck
good job on 6th (i got to 25th lol)
Thank you, 25th is still quite good considering the 52 submissions, good luck with your next project:)
@@DylanDev14 thanks, you too
Bro, this is so cool!
Lets do a collab!
Possibly, I am very new to this whole TH-cam thing, so I’m not sure how to go about that, lol
@@DylanDev14 Well, its like i can invite you to my discord server and we will see. How about that?
@@SLEPStudios ok sounds good, maybe we can even work together in the GMTK game jam, if you’re up for it?
@@DylanDev14 oh wait it wont let me send the discord link.
go to our videos and go to description. In the description is the discord link
i hate how you don't link the game anywhere
Yeah sorry about that, sadly TH-cam doesn’t let me post external links at the moment:(
@@DylanDev14 make sense.. your game is fun tho, you earned a subscriber!
BRO YOU SOUND LIKE OLD REE KID
Lmao, some random kid told me that when I was playing phasmophobia once.
