    Great video, Kudos to you Jay for giving Brandon the chance to work for you. He's definitely a valuable asset. Kudos to Brandon on his first musky and hook in the thumb. Thank god the hook was already out of the musky's mouth when he got stuck, it could have been a lot worse. Glad he was able to continue fishing.

    Many anglers overlook the need to have adequate first aid kits. Especially when it comes to boats.
    Have assisted in the removal of a few hooks, using the two line method.

    • @FondelMikeRotch
      @FondelMikeRotch 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What the hell you need two lines for? Always used one

    • @fishn365
      @fishn365 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FondelMikeRotch the first line goes around the bend. The second doesn't do anything except act as a distraction for the guy that's hooked. I make them focus on holding the second line, that isn't wrapped around anything other than my finger. Then, while they are holding it, I always tell them, "OK, I'm going to pull on three, you just hold on that line in your hand....one, two, yank"

    I got one treble from an old Canadian Wiggler in the arm about a decade ago...with a 30" pike still attached to the other, thrashing away like mad. Was in a canoe and didn't think anything of pulling a green pike in with no net, landed a ton of fish in the canoe before. Luckily my cousin pulled the pike off real quick and didn't tip the canoe or anything. It bunched up a ton of skin on my forearm and the barb poked out the other side, so it honestly didn't hurt much more than a needle prick. I remember looking at the scenario unfold and thinking it was gonna though. Just cut the barb off and you could barely tell it happened...just two pin holes about 3" apart. That's the worst I've ever got hooked.

    I find it so weird how people love musky but hate pike. The aggressiveness is just the same, the strikes, the fight, the runs. The SIZE. Pike are way more abundant and take lures way more often. In my opinion it’s much easier to get into 40”+ pike consistently and way easier to access, musky is more time spent for less result. I’m not against either, both great fish imo.
    It’s just so weird to try to make logic out of the concept people have surrounding these two fish when there’s little to no differences, actually more positives on the pike side of “fishing” as a whole.

    Manitoban here so kinda required but barbless hooks, slip out of your nicely.

    • @JaySiemens
      @JaySiemens  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup, barbless hooks are definitely easier for pulling out of your body!

      All gopro was filmed in 4k. I usually just upload in 1080, most people just watch on their phones anyways.

    • @JaySiemens

      Rigged it up myself

    • @Anothermidwestfisherman
      @Anothermidwestfisherman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JaySiemens man you should make a video on it, the head cam angle on a kayak is so much better than the chesty but I just can't deal with head mounts for long durations!
