    What a shocker, I was rooting for Guy and noticed he was out. What an unfortunate set of events. Best wishes with the salvage and the sail home.

    Heartbreaking. All sailors can empathise. We’ve all been there in one way or another

    There is something muddled here: he said he had chosen to pass East of Fuerteventura while actually he passed West of it.

    I watched the walk-thru and interview with Guy on the Yachting Monthly and was looking forward to watching his progress. Not sure why he would put himself on the lee shore under those conditions, but as someone else pointed out, I commend him for owning in. I hope the salvage efforts go smoothly.

    Sleep deprivation? I think its the greatest challenge for a solo sailor.

    Many are the joys of single-handed sailing. This is not one of them. I've done the same thing but got lucky. I feel for him.

    I have great respect for Guy and all the GGR Skippers. But I have heard Guy say a few times in interviews that this years GGR sailors are of a higher calibre than 2018, which is a little disrespectful. Then he has his accident- Karma?

    Last tracking locates Spirit on a road through the surf resort nearby.
    Is Spirit currently trailed?
    Does this mean the crane hired by Guy managed to lift her from the beach?
    Hope Spirit will sail again!

    Sorry to hear of the beaching. I don't understand why someone would (a) put themselves off a lee-shore when tired and sailing single handed, (b) not use 20 minute timers to help them manage sleep. Hope the boat is recovered and repairable. I guess he is out of the race, once he receives assistance.

    There are two kinds of sailors out there, one kind, and some other maybe not so kind, but either way whatever happens, happens. Best of luck in the future.

    Well... it is all part of the race. Big part pf it is to get to the finish line. That is the real challenge, and is not easy at all, because situation like this one or other factors. It is part pf the game. Like jumping on a boxing ring and get beaten up... well, that is the challenge itself.

    If there was no requirement for a media drop you would still be happily racing around the world. I don’t remember Robin Knox Johnson or Moitissier being required to make a media drop.

    No, sorry, the reason the boat hit the rocks was your poor seamanship. You knew you were tired so you stayed standing smoking a cigar for two hours? There's your answer as to why.

    • @tompollard6643
      @tompollard6643 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Harsh judgement. In that situation you may not have smoked a cigar but still have run aground. Give the man some slack. I won't ask if you have completed the GGR previously.
